drank 1/2 without decanting and 1/2 after a day. really made a difference. no earthy funk either day (bad) but plenty of freshness on second day. probably time to drink up if you haven't already.

decanted for 3 hours. mellow and balanced. black fruits, cassis and black licorice flavors in the first glass. flavors had softened by the 2nd and 3rd glass. others have said that this wine is past its prime, but I disagree. it might not be a great bordeaux, but its still running. drink up.

PnP. Beyond it's prime. Flat aroma, the taste had an interesting eucalyptus that lasted for a few hours after opening, then waned and was completely gone by day-2. Overall rather uninteresting.

Opaque purplish red. A: Bright red and black fruit, graphite, cigar box. Tannins were still there but had mellowed, and the acid kick was right where it needed to be. This wasn’t showing any signs of decline...seemed to be right in the sweet spot. Purchased in 2019 from a cellar-direct shipment.

Dark purple color, nose showing classic Bordeaux with Merlot and Cabernet evident. Black currant and cassis flavor with tar and a bit of tobacco. Enough tannin to keep the flavors stable. Went great with our remoulade crab cakes, dill slaw and asparagus.

Tuesday Night Double Blind $40+: Light brick crimson; green pepper, iron, gravel, very Bordeaux, tobacco, currants; enough sap to the fruit to keep this balanced; nice.

Deep purple in color. Hues of purple and brick red around the edge. Well formed legs that hold together. On the nose there is blackberry with hints of vanilla bean. Exceptionally smooth on the tonge. The tannins appear up front, but melt away revealing a luscious, fruit forward flavor. Medium bodied with a smooth dry finish. The wine is good now, but I will hold and taste it again in a year or so. I think this still has room to develop further.

Better than the last time....while fully mature, drink it straight out of the bottle and do not decant otherwise the fruit will fade. A very solid effort. PnP. Good secondary notes!

Red fruit and tobacco on the nose. Soft bodied red fruit with a complex, cedar and cigar box middle and a soft but not limp finish with decent tanins.
Maybe it goes to show that I am not a big Bordeaux Guy, but I enjoyed this wine much more than a similarly-aged left bank wine that I recently paid 5x as much for and which I found over-assertive and without enough fruit on it to have any charm. By contrast, this wine is light-bodied and soft-shouldered, it knows it and it rocks it.

Interesting. Fully mature, fruit almost gone, but there is a touch of black cherry left. Mostly secondary characteristics of tobacco, black tea, cedar, old saddle leather, green herb, with some menthol and lavender on the nose. Good, not great.

Tuesday Night Double Blind $50+ (Alpharetta, GA): Garnet core with pale rim; sweaty currant, green pepper, leather, still some oak, younger on the nose; nice palate, cherry and currant, simpler for Bordeaux but tasty tonight and a nice value for sure.

Pushed by a local merchant as being a nice mature BDX and a deal for $22. I've had other vintages and enjoyed this producer. Not this time! Nose of dried rose hips and tea leaves, some berry fruit and spice/cedar. Thin on the palate, unripe, and over the hill. Provenance MIGHT be the issue but I doubt it given similar notes going back 5 years. Normally I'd say "drink up" but I couldn't drink it, so why should you?

Nose: Bell pepper, black cherry, blackberry, tar and sage. Palate: Silky and medium bodied, but lots of green notes on the palate with underlying black fruit and mineral. Finish: Fruit tones are more pronounced, but still a lot of green.
I had this at an in-store tasting, and they tried some real shenanigans with this wine by pouring it right after some hotter high fruit Right Bank wines. First pass this showed well because I had residuals of the other wines on my palate and nose. Re-tasting showed the note above.

I generally like the 02s, but the overriding theme here was green. Too bad, because underneath there was some really nice fruit and minerality. It was just difficult to see clearly.

Popped and poured. Shows light bricking at the edges but dark garnet towards the center. Aromas at first were reticent. Dried leather, oak, some red currant and cassis, and cherries. As the wine opened up, it lost some funky, musty notes it carried. On the palate it's smooth and easy drinking with good length and fully integrated tannins. Dried cherry, cassis, herbs, and leather were the predominant flavors. There isn't a lot of complexity anymore and this was showing more advanced than its age, but it was a straightforward Bordeaux.

The 2002 is not a wine to love. Only one single disturbing TN on cellartracker and really no notes nowhere on the internets... where did all the wine made in '02 go to?
Decanted for an hour or two. Light nose with cherry, berry, roasted pepper and some mint. On the palate compact, fresh (a bit too acidic probably), with modest and not fully ripe fruit. Some sweet cedar on the background. Rather simple and light bodied wine, with a short finish. The elegant style, which does so well in good vintages, is slightly watery and almost pinot noir-ish in 2002. It is not a bad wine and the flaws are only noticable if you care for wine, but it lacks a backbone, it lacks the confidence of a classic Bordeaux and it lacks fun. This tastes like a 3.99Euro Bdx generique.
Pass. 80 points
One bottle left and won't finish this one. Glad a 2003 Chateau La Commanderie from St. Estephe came to the rescue. What a difference.... A wine for big boys. My wife liked the Lanessan and hated the La Commanderie. This is, for me, an indication of the quality of both, as she doesn't like red wine at all....
