Medium gold color; this has lost the clunkiness of 4 years ago; traces of TDN (“petrol” source) mix with unripe pineapple pungency; viscous palate with great acid freshness. Apparently lots of bottle variation with this, will drink my last couple in the near term.

5th of 6, pnp, perfect cork and level, seemed clean but flavours lumpy and retain an irritating semi sweet mid palate, some complexity though including kerosene and not too old or oxi but tad unbalanced, certainly no zing! VG (16)….one of the better bottles from a disappointing case!

Dunkles, tiefes Goldgelb.

Similar to previous note, again drinking beautifully: Medium gold. Clean nose, pronounced aromas of lemon curd, ripe peaches and apricots, tropical fruit - mango and pineappple, petrol, wet stones, honey, ginger, smoke. Fully developed. Off-dry palate, medium (+) acidity, medium (+) alcohol (14%), full body, pronounced flavours similar to the nose. Long finish.

The intense aromatics unfortunately don't fully carry to the palate...while still tasty and drinkable, this particular bottle was definitely on the downhill slope. High acidity makes it read dry, a bit of creaminess in the midpalate but the finish is clipped and alcoholic.

Outstanding Riesling, this bottle not so sweet as the late but still fully developed, refreshing acidity to balance the residual sweetness, the alcohol well integrated, and a long persistent finish. Drink now, not suitable for further ageing. It is fully developed and likely to start to fade.

From magnum. Honey colored. A bit dull with the tasting pour, but quickly offered petrol-y notes admixed with citrus rind/curd notes. Good and not overbearing acid, well balanced. Finish is a tad shorter than I'd like. Pairs well with miso soup.

Final bottle. Surprisingly, much more vibrant and youthful than the previous bottles tasted in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Where I had expected a soft, earthy and honeyed, slightly tired wine, I now find the nose to be fresh and mineral, with flowers and peach to the fore and earthy and honeyed notes in the background only; the palate is juicy and fresh too (for a twelve year old Alsatian Riesling anyway), well-balanced and with bright acidity, and it is only the prominence of the bitters on the back palate that reveals that the wine is getting on a bit. The finish lacks a little definition but length is good to very good. A very pleasant surprise. The advice remains however not to wait any longer. Drink up.

Wow. Succulent notes of reisling, verging on sweet, but with a long line of minerality that ended in a floral note. Perfect with smoked eel and sturgeon, or anything a bit strong and fishy! Opulent, but not sure how much longer it will last.

Purchased at the winery and cellared since then. This wine had a stunning vibrancy and flavor profile. It is not sweet, but the unctuosity gives in rich, perception of sweet fruit in a dry way. Amazing tropical fruit flavors I usually do not associate with riesling. Well aged, but no where near declining.

Steely lemon and golden apple nose with a touch of honeyed richness but more profound notes of gunpowder, celery, wet stones and moss. Dry, medium bodied and airy palate with fine-grained and precise acidity letting the wine to ease up its existence. Not much fruit left, but after decanting the wine balance was gradually achieved. Fine array of savoury notes - many of them screaming '04. Huge fun. Drinking well. A joy.

Very good fit to asian food, we had it with friends from FT at the pdh. Medium to long finish, I agree that the orange peel is more dominant in the nose. It is still developing, but it is an excellent drinkable wine now (IMHO, will last post 2020, but if I had one or two extra, I would have had them over the next few years) On the more dry side (a plus for me), and was among the first (and fastest) bottles to be finished during the meal. Very good match to the duck. I think it would work well with more spicy sauces as well.
I would have voted with my wallet and buy one or two more. Since I could not find it, I would vote on joining a dinner where another one would be opened.

Nose is tight initially but with time it opens up to show sea spray, orange peel, marmalade and waxy notes. Great richness and weight to the palate, with beautiful acidity to balance. Texture and length are both outstanding. Still developing, it should drink well over the next 10+ years.

Nice nose, good, if acidic and slightly austere, mouth; length is sufficiently bitter and more than sufficiently nice. Lots of grapefruit and bitter melon, almost enough to merit a "this is a nice Gewurtztraminer" label, but without MOST of the exotic notes. Seems to be at one with itself; it seems unlikely that any hidden notes will emerge from the shadows, but this is a nice enough before dinner drink as is.

golden color with a richness to the nose and full bodied texture that is carried nicely by its acidity. Full bodied but lithe and poised, with good freshness. Lots of minerals, citrus, some green apples, and with a pretty floral undertone. just starting to get some petrol. This is still young-ish and I suspect it will start becoming more savory and less fruity over the next few years. Outstanding.

The wine was surprisingly young and vibrant. Mineral nose with citrus notes and a whiff of petrol. Palate is intense with high extract and balancing acidity, capable of pairing with the most difficult dishes. Minerality, peaches, citrus fruit and lingering finish. Exceptional Alsace Riesling.

A full floral nose with butterscotch, vanilla, and paraffin is followed by glossy yellow plums, melon, ripe Asian pear, coriander seed, and cumin spice. Retains its blurry streak down the middle, and I'm not sure if that will resolve itself or weigh down the potential.

This should improve for 15+ years from vintage. From .375, firm but not bitter after much air. Opened, put cork back, kept in fridge 24 hours, two more hours open before drinking. Medium-full bodied. Complex. Good with lightly spicy food.

light golden. On the first nite, we drank the first half of the 375 ml and found it very good. 48 hours later it is better and very expressive. Diesel, passion fruit, orange peel, apples. Medium body and sweetness, dleicious with all the fruit found i n the nose plus some butterscotch at the end of a very long finish. Well balanced with the acid. Excellent today, and I would not leave the next bottle for more than 2 years. Thanks, Larry

Consumed at Sooke Harbour House with Camille and Deanna. Deep straw color with gold hints. Nose of petrol and SO2 initially, but the sulfur blew off after 5 minutes, leaving the petrol behind. Beautiiful honeyed pear, apple and white peach aromas with a nice floral component as well. This opened up to reveal sweet hazelnuts and toast over time, which added to the complexity of this very pretty wine. On the palate, great honeyed pears and peaches on the attack, followed by an explosion of mid palate acidity, followed by a long finish of nuts, honey and minerals. Pairings: Course 1 - Wild and cultivated organic greens with edible blossoms, tossed in a rhubarb, Houttuynia, buttermilk dressing This was the pairing of the night, and one of the best I've had in a long time. The edible carnations and nasturtiums brought out the wonderful floral component of the wine, while the buttermilk brought out the nuttiness. Fennel also paired well with the Riesling. Course 2 - Chorizo, cured pork loin and roasted pork jowel Another strong pairing, with the wine matching up especially well with the heat of the chorizo. Good, not great, with the pork jowel. Course 3 - Grilled pork loin chop with meat stock reduction, pickled pepper sauce and sage oil, potato onion tartlet, bok choy and wilted swiss chard. Good pairing, but not outstanding. Weakest of the three. Overall, a great night and wonderful, food-friendly wine.

Clear medium intensity lemon hue. Slightly oily texture maybe supported by a bit of residual sugar and/or healthy alcohol levels. On the nose, the wine seems quite introvert at first glance. Delicate and elegant aromas of green fruits, hints of petrol and some minerals suggest a promising wine yet already enjoyable. Surprisingly, the refreshing wave coming from the acidity that I was expecting on the palate didn't occur and aromas suggesting peach, citrus and botrytis were very pleasing. Very good. The wine is essentially dry but there is some noticeable sweetness. With the quality and the intensity of the flavours finishing into a clean and persistent aftertaste, this is another example of a great Riesling wine that will live a long time.

Brought to dinner at Oliveto. FABULOUS!!! (Actually considered rating this a 95, but erred on the side of caution, due to the context.) No detailed notes, but this wine had everything going for it. Crisp, racy, aromatic, ripe, elegant, great fruit and minerality, tremendous complexity and an amazingly long and powerful finish. One of the best whites I've had to date.

A classically-styled Alsatian Riesling that shows only the slightest touch of honeyed sweetness on the attack, followed by near-perfect precision and delineation on the racy palate. Ripe grapefruit and minerality are in abundance -- with petrol noticeably lacking -- and the finish brings a sort of minerally biscuit onto the scene as well. I half expected it to kick into a higher gear and it never quite did. Still, it's a top-notch, crisp, and clean Alsace, and you could do worse than that.

golden color with a richness to the nose and full bodied texture that is carried nicely by its acidity.

Viv Lucy -- Showing a tad of development, great white, a teeeny bit sweet, just a touch. Lotsa minerality and candied citrus/exotic fruit elements.

A full floral nose with butterscotch, vanilla, and paraffin is followed by glossy yellow plums, melon, ripe Asian pear, coriander seed, and cumin spice. Retains its blurry streak down the middle, and I'm not sure if that will resolve itself or weigh down the potential.

A nose that was all honey and apricots. The palate started out creamy, but immediately showed acidity. It was floral with apples and apricots and ended with grapefruit rind that showed a slight bitterness, but, then again, turned sweet and delicious.

fantastic. power, elegance, complexity. one complaint is that it showed just a little too much alcoholic heat. still, drinking wonderfully right now.

This bottle, consumed about a week ago, was a more steady performer than the last. Very enjoyable combination of moderate richness and definition.

This bottle performed unevenly for me over 3 days, showing best on day 2. I think David S's note is on to something and will be picking up the pace of my consumption accordingly.

Pairings: Course 1 - Wild and cultivated organic greens with edible blossoms, tossed in a rhubarb, Houttuynia, buttermilk dressing
This was the pairing of the night, and one of the best I've had in a long time. The edible carnations and nasturtiums brought out the wonderful floral component of the wine, while the buttermilk brought out the nuttiness. Fennel also paired well with the Riesling.
Course 2 - Chorizo, cured pork loin and roasted pork jowel
Another strong pairing, with the wine matching up especially well with the heat of the chorizo.

Peaches, pears, orange peel and marmalade on the nose. A rich, viscous and weighty palate with excellent texture and length. Bold, but balanced. Excellent.

Citrus fruit, lemon peel, lychee and a mineral component on the nose and palate; stones; spices; already some petrol; long aftertaste.
