Excellent Barolo for the price...CA$50 LCBO March 2016.

nice, young still, a fair amount of white/black pepper is somewhat unexpected. the '07 consumed earlier this year was absolutely singling. this seemingly needs more time. hold ~5yrs?

Opened one of my bottles to get an idea of how it was progressing and when these will be hitting their prime. It was very clear that this wine needs another 5-10 years in the cellar, as it is still a locked up tannic monster.
Decanted and drank half of the bottle over the course of four hours. Only towards the end did it start to open up and reveal some cherry and earth/leather taste.
Saved the second half of the bottle for the next day and it was better, with a much better rounded bouquet and taste. That having been said though, the finish was short and the wine was lacking any sort of "wow" factor. I am not officially rating now since I don't think the wine is ready to be drunk, but if I had to it would be about an 87, with some upside with further cellar time. If you drink now, I would decant for a minimum of 4-6 hours.

This has started to shut down. Brief note from a party. Bottled opened ~4 hours before serving, but no decanting. Full nose of plum, black cherry, spice and tar. The palate is now showing lean and structured with fine, but gritty tannin. Big earth and tar undercurrent. Structured and tight finish.

Medium bright & clear ruby in color. Forward, fragrant & attractive nose of youthful, ripe fruit aromas of red cherries & strawberries with overtones of floral notes of roses & spices, earthy/dusty, minerals, dried herbs, anise & a hint of cedar. Medium bodied with a good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, youthful, ripe fruit flavors of sweet cherries, strawberries & tart cranberries with spices, dried herbs, mint, anise, earthy & minerals. Long lingering finish. Readily accessible with decanting & airing but will reward with further development with additional aging.

Decanted for about 30 minutes at the restaurant. Smells of red fruit, herbs/spice and anise. Palate of red fruit and acidity with a touch of anise or licorice flavor. Delicious now. Will love to see this as it evolves.

The color resembles a flawless ruby. Expressive nose of a spring garden in full bloom and ripe red cherries.
On the palate comes an attack of bright acidity. The fruit, however, felt fairly one-dimensional. Tannins are as grippy as snow tires.
Second half of the bottle went into a decanter and in there it sat for six hours. During the second session the flower garden nose is a shadow of its former self but now I'm picking up strawberry starburst and cedar spice chest. The fruit has receded just a smidge into the background and the tannins have lost much of their grip. Secondary savory flavors of shiitake and beef jerky are coming to the fore. This wine is built for the long haul. Went well with white cheddar Popcorners and back-of-the-fridge-forgotten apple smoked gruyere. Low rent but hey, that's all the food I had on hand.

Very funky when first opened up, thought for sure it was flawed/spoiled. Heavy bret. With a little bit of air that seemed to disappear but the wine that is left is fairly muted. So not sure if flawed or not, going to give the other bottle a couple of years and see what shakes out.
Tasting at Alessandro and Gian Natale Fantino (Monforte d'Alba, Piedmont, Italy): Bright, deep ruby. Just a gorgeous and layered nose with black cherry, dried herb and crazy amounts of spice. Palate has significant brawny fruit to start and than a wave of significant yet refined tannins takeover on the mid-palate. This is absolutely stuffed to age. I really liked the masculine/feminine interplay. 94-96

The nose is classic Barolo, showing dusty cherry, spice, dried floral tones, leather and hints of undergrowth. On the palate, it displayed a feminine structure with pure red fruit and fresh acidity giving way to hints of licorice through the close. Spice lingered along with rosy florals. This is such an aromatic, pure and fresh style of Barolo, it will be interesting to see how it progresses as it matures and puts on more weight.

Garnet, orange around the rim. Cherry, oak, roses on the nose. Sweet and sour cherry, oak, menthol in the mouth. Rich texture. Tannins mellowed after 7 hours of air. Beautiful wine.

Only litte fruit on the nose left. Otherwise a weak wine, mellows a bit with some air.

Guter Durchschnittsbarolo, kann jetzt mit dekantieren gut getrunken werden und bleibt sicher noch ein paar Jahre auf diesem Niveau...

Not a really tannnic Barolo, I'd think it's time to drink this, pretty light for a barolo, enjoyed.
