beautiful example of a midweight classico that has aged perfectly. a nose of dried rose, sweet cherry, tar and worn saddle leather. on the palate, you get an amalgam of complexity all tied together by mostly resolved tannins and still bright acidity. there's the sweet cherry, the sous bois, some balsamic notes, and a nice long finish. the first taste of this, just put a big smile on my face. this was a great bottle of barolo even though it was from a classico. magic in a bottle!
day 2 - had the 2nd half of this bottle with a steak. perfection!

classic Serralunga barolo. opens with a robust nose of cherry, dried roses, black tea and sous bois. on the palate, there's dark cherry mixed with a nice earthiness and some iron. the wine is in a good drinking spot right now with the tannins having softened and the fruit starting to develop some nice complexity. a very nice normale overall with a fabulous qpr. the Serralunga fruit is nicely balanced with good acidity and depth. I really love the aromatics of this wine. the wine continues to gather weight after about an hour in the decanter. paired well with grilled strip steak and sauteed Hosta shoots.

Classic Nebbiolo. Tar roses and leather with herbs - savory? Bouquet garni? Fully integrated tannins with nice acidity. Not huge but got all the characteristics. In prime shape right now.

Decanted for 30 minutes. Drinking really well right now. Nice firm tannins, good acid and sour cherry fruit. Leather and a slight touch of oak on the finish. Good depth. Three hours later it was still going strong. 90-91

We did not keep detailed notes. The wine needed about 20-30 minutes to come together and fill out. We drank this with a chicken and tomato stew over polenta with a tossed salad. Delicious. This was a "small" 750ml bottle.

Really nice nose of tar, Rose's and cherry candy. Leather, spice and cherry on the pallet. Ok mouthfeel and finish. Tennis are almost completely integrated. Solidly in it's drinking window. Good QPR at a 30 price point 90 --91

garnet heading towards tawny. Sweet oak notes tonight. As it opened leather and tobacco in the background. (the oak reminded me of the oak on American pinots).
day 2, wow this really came together the oak notes have been completely integrated into a melange of Nebbiolo aromatics/flavors. So elegant and nuanced.

Exceptional balance, dried cherries, roses, raspberry, leather, tar, and latent tea. Very open at 6 hours. Was great early but maybe open it a little earlier in the day next time? :)
That's a good Barolo and the 500th bottle I've recorded on CT. Looking forward to seeing this age.

Quick note. 1 hour decant. Medium garnet. easy drinking and real approachable. Nice nose of Tobacco, leather, licorice and the other usual suspects. On the feminine side. Medium body. Nice.

Had to make some room for additional wine purchases , filled up a rack in the cellar and this was the odd bottle out. Did the right thing and threw it in to a decanter for about 3 hours while I worked on dinner. Initial nose in the decanter was dark cranberry, cherry cola, spicy birch beer and some earthy black tea hints in the background. By hour 3 this was much brighter, with juicy red cherries and menthol notes coming through but also noticeable heat which gave it the essence of a Ludens cough drop. This caries through to the palate with a medicinal iodine like note on the finish. Decent acidity but the tannins provide all the structure right now. Honestly I preferred it on the pop-n-pour where there was more spicy-earthy complexity; opens up with air to a more modern, fruit driven style. Its a good wine but not my preferred style, will be drinking through my last bottle sooner rather than later. The B evaluation still seem appropriate to me (85).

Pop n pour- nose of black cherry kirsch that opens up with some time to reveal more floral and earthy notes. Red cherry palate with red licorice and tarry notes. Tannins add a leathery-to-woody texture and some some forest floor from the oak in that traditional old school, more masculine style. Finish is quick due to the tannins but plenty of structure for aging. 14.5% abv adds that liqueur note on the nose but seems in check on the palate for now. $30 Last Bottle, FS on 4, like that price. Overall B (84) Evaluation for now, thinking 2-4 more years before it enters it's window and will offer really nice value if those tannins integrate well.

Tasted again 6 months after first bottle. Opened (not decanted) for 45 min. Already loosing some of the fruit and developing tar/roses/sandalwood nicely. Tanins well integrated by now.

Has that distinctive dusky italian red wine color, with smooth tannin and nice cherry aroma and flavor. I love Barolo's and this one is a nice example of them. Probably could use a couple more years in the cellar. Glad I have three more bottles.

Clear, light ruby color. Legs in the glass. Clean aromas, good intensity, lots of primary notes but very nicely layered secondary notes- cherry & rose hips, with dried herbs, sandalwood and mushroom. Elegant and feminine in style on the palate, with strong, well integrated acidity and fine and gripping polished tannins. Showing tangy and bright cherry with layers of savory floral herb depth. Juicy & full finish. Very nice- showing nice accessibility.

A vivacious Barolo, this is packed with sweet cherry, blackberry and raspberry fruit, augmented by leather and tobacco notes. Dense with tannins, leaving a sensation of raw silk around the gums, while the fruit and a mineral element play long on the finish.

Perfume of spicy red berries and damp soil. Beautiful core of silky fruit with a long mouth watering finish. Tannins are present but already integrating. Will be fun to watch this wine over the coming years.

Tung, god lukt, krydder, cedertre, meget bra lukt
Tørr, krydret, tung smak, meget mye tanninner, typisk heftig barolo.
