Dinner at Osteria Langhe (Chicago, IL): The nose here was much better than the palate -- perfumed and gentle, with a fair bit of secondary and tertiary notes. Earthy, but perfumed at the same time, with some dehydrated fruit as well. The palate isn't as lush as the nose, and there's far more acid than anything else here. This did improve with more air, as my initial impression was that the wine felt a little clamped down still.

2 for 2 with this birth year wine for a birthday dinner. Decanted for ~5-6 hours, back in the bottle and served ~3 hours later. Gorgeous nose of classic Nebbiolo -- aged black cherry, licorice, dried flowers, new leather and road tar. The palate has good concentration, richness and chewiness. This should hold and age gracefully for another decade. Alto Piemonte at its best.

Birthday Truffle Dinner (Home): Tasted side by side with the 74 Prunotto Riserva, and I preferred this. Decanted for 7.5 hours. This had more fruit, which was still shockingly youthful, compared to the Prunotto. Full nose with powerful aromas of cherry and florals, with earth and new leather in the background. Powerful palate still has plenty of structure and balance. Last glass was several hours after the first and drank consistently. Amazing.

Alto Piemonte (The Gander, NYC): Dirty nose. Tart and sour.
