As before, it is so reduced and full of struck match that is hard to even evaluate, needs vigourous swirling, aerating and decanting just to become recognizable as Chardonnay, a shame. But I have worked this glass hard, and I think I can see a way to give it a 90, although I'm quite sure at the time of bottling it had the potential to be much higher. They still have work to do on the whole screwcap thing!!

Snappy clove aromas. Next to Ridge Monte Bello 2013 Chard, that shows bigger and softer, with more gently integrated oak. Not insanelybzippy as I remember, but still super fresh and doesn’t feel anything but a primary youthful expression.

Another excellent bottle of this wonderful Margaret River Chardonnay. Complex, generous, at the same time fresh and vibrant with lovely persistence and intensity. Drink or keep. 92-94

Severely reduced. Only aroma was struck match. Decanted it, and it got a bit better, but we were never fully able to enjoy it, we could only get a sense of what it should have been if not shrouded in a fog of sulfur. I don't see any other instances of this noted here, so I guess this was just an off bottle.

Lime, ginger, yellow plum and apple, a little flinty reduction and minerals, a little butter. Great persistence and concentration, you can feel the viscosity. The acidity is OK and the oak is just a tad more than my preferences, the balance is really good and having bought this about 5 years ago at a price of 33 euro or so it is a good qpr but I think it has come up a bit in price like most things.

Robe jaune verdâtre. Vin complexe sur le minéral, sauge, miel et pétrole. Long en bouche avec une finale sur la brioche. Un peu sirupeux avec un bel équilibre. Pas trop boisé. Beau vin

Drink up. The style of wine making is coming to the for now with lots of smoky, flinty sulphides starting to dominate fruit. There’s still good fruit underneath - think grapefruit, orchard fruit, honeysuckle and slight butter - and the oak is top quality - think bread and nuts - but it’s the secondary flavours that are distracting and probably more so over time. Still a very high quality Chardonnay.

Very concentrated ripe citrus fruit on both nose and palate. Very pronounced aromas. Creamy and smoky. Heady, pungent. But also zesty. Exceptionally long, dry finish. Beautiful now but will benefit from several more years.

Not much to add to my previous tasting notes. Opulent nose, wonderful fruit, creamy oak, spices. Rich, but well balanced on the palate with great acidity, slightly mineral, lots of generous fruit. Lingering and long. 92-94

Fairly open but should last five years at least. Lovely elegant mix of soft fruit, minerals and a kiss of oak. A bit ethereal but long finish shows it's depth.

Pretty consistent with previous note. Very well balanced, fresh and lively, but generous and rich at the same time. Just a bit young still. Will try to hold onto my remaining bottles for a while. 91-92+

(Decanter FWE). Not much noted down but I distinctly remember it as a very fruity, aromatic, uplifting and refreshing one. Just noted down very good indeed. Would be really interested in trying it again... Also remember they don't let their wines go through malolactic fermentation.

A bit soft at first, but showing more structure with air. Lovely spice from oak mingling with pure clean fruit. On the subtle side. Notes of smoke add complexity. I would have liked to see a firmer acid backbone, but I wonder if this might show better with a couple more years of age.

Powerful nose, plenty of mineral smoke, buttered popcorn, greengage. Fresh attack, still unresolved, peach fruit, grape skin acidity combines with mineral intensity. Improved with rising temperature and aeration. Powerful but great finesse. Very promising. 91+

Peter Bourne GWT Tasitng Chardonnay (8 Danks street, Sydney): On the nose there is lemon over peach, slight sulphurousness, very perfumed with a wash of almost tropical fruit notes, and some cedar. In the mouth the wine is juicy with flavours of sweet spice, lemon and peach. Textually it's quite broad with a very slight sulphur prickle and all carries long and harmonious on the finish. Lovely. very good.

Smokey and mineral, amazingly complex. One taster notes that the smokiness somewhat covers up the fruit but as it is open the fruit emerges more and more. This is great Chardonnay.
AFR magazine top 20 tasting (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): slight aromas of smoked bacon then lemon and peach, slight toast, vanilla and butter. In the mouth the wine has flavours of stone fruit; peach, over citrus notes, spice, well balanced acidity, fruit and tannin and the fruit persist on the long finish. Medium plus intensity body. nice

has a really big oak expression at pop and pour, but this quickly makes way for loads of mineral with floral nuance. complexity and cut. great acidity. ash and flint. superb. Day 3. I am thankful for Vasse Felix Chardonnay. Wow. Stunning acid driven and a new favorite. Drink to 2026.
