  • Not as impressed as my previous bottle, but still a very solid wine. Dark fruit, herbs, meat and gravel. Slightly reductive at opening (as with most Canary wines) so make sure to give it some air.

  • Revisited after some 12+ months. I don't think there has happened any significant development. The fruit is restrained, more spicy and tannic (bitter) than juicy. Big muscular acidity. I love the energy, which is more deep than powerful. Earthy tones on the palate, apple skin, light rustic. Tasty. Long and with sense of place. I like it very much.

Dark leaves, black cherry, licorice and pungent sawdust and less savory. medium+ acidity, dry, medium+ body, medium very firm furry tannin, medium alcohol. Long vanilla and iron, leafy finish and cereal. Okay balance(lack of fruit but beautiful furry tannin), good length, good intensity, okay complexity. very good. 87.

  • Silky, dark fruit and almost salty minerality. Fresh and without any noticable traces of oak. Very nice wine. Will definatelyseek our more wines from Suertes del Marqués.

  • A private dinner (Restaurant Eldorado, Copenhagen, Denmark): Produced from ungrafted, centenarian Listán Negro vines in the La Solana plot, trained according to the traditional 'Cordón Trenzado', on volcanic soils; foot-trodden in open concrete tanks, aged for 12 months in neutral, 500 litre, French oak barrels. Wonderfully deep volcanic minerality, attractive hint of funk on the nose, tight and fresh palate, bright red cherries, spices, ripe but grippy phenolics, youthful and flavoursome, pure and linear, complete and floral finish, good length. Ageworthy but drinking well already.

  • The grapes are sourced from ungrafted, centenarian vineyards. Fermented spontaneously on indigenous yeasts, aged for 12 months in old, neutral French oak barrels of 500 liters. 13,5% alcohol.

Translucent and beautifully luminous black cherry color. Very robust, pungent and somewhat smoky nose with volcanic aromas of gunpowder smoke and matchstick, even subtle hints of sulfurous skunk, along with aromas of juicy dark berries, some fresh cherry tones and a hint of dark-roasted coffee grounds. The wine is medium-bodied, firm and crunch yon the palate with dry yet ripe flavors of sour cherry bitterness, pronounced stony minerality, smoky gunpowder tones, some herbal rosemary character, a little bit of chokeberries and a hint of saline tang. The wine is quite high in acidity, but the tannins feel very soft, gentle and more textural than grippy. The finish is long, dry and pretty acid-driven with barely noticeable tug of tannins and rather savory flavors of crunchy dark berries, tangy salinity, some smoky tones, a little bit of tar and a hint of rough, stony minerality.

A wonderfully tasty, fresh and crunchy Canary Islands red that shows some obvious sense of concentration and ripeness, yet stylistically is very fresh, markedly mineral and immensely drinkable. I was wondering whether the wine was somewhat reductive - which would explain the smokier tones - or if the wine was just such a volcanic red that those smokier tones weren't from reduction but instead an inherent character of the wine. Whatever the case, the wine was really lovely and drinking immensely well right now. However, with its high acidity, sense of concentration and overall youthful character, I can see the wine only going up from here. Drink now or cellar for many more years - I'd expect the score to go up over time. Solid value at 16,90€.

  • Small vineyard of 2,5ha planted with ungrafted very old vines of Listan Negro - 80 to 110 years old. Wine is dark ruby and violet, very clean, balanced and structured. Light smokey aroma, pronounced ripe sour fruitiness, which continues on the palate. Not a robust wine, it is more about concentration, balance and lifted acidity.

  • It is expressive in the nose with smokey notes and spicy fruit aromas of blackberry, raspberry, strawberry, violets and black pepper. In the palate it is smooth and silky, with very soft tannins, a moderate acidity and juicy concentration with a persistent after-taste.

  • Retailer tasting (@ vdH): The bouquet is a bit smoky. There are ripe dark berry fruits, a lot of sweetness and also juicy acidity, Round tannin. Really nice wine. 87+
