  • I love wine. This is the oldest Brunello I have consumed thus far, and is so different from anything I have ever tasted. I was really worried that this may be past its prime, but it is just seemed perfect to me.

The color of the wine is a light garnet with bricking at the rim.

On the nose, initially some barnyard funk that quickly gave way to cherry, leather, smoke, and a hint of nutmeg.

On the palate cherry once again, with butter, caramel, caramelized onions, (perhaps the sweet tobacco mentioned by RMALLORY) finishing to tannins that are recognizable but not intrusive, followed by leather and smokiness last seems to go on forever.

I only had this one bottle, so I have no idea where this is in its maturity cycle, but seems to be drinking very well right now.

  • Very good. Noble aromas of sweet tobacco, chocolate, roasted herbs, and root beer. Mature and expansive. Good weight and tannic structure. Seems over the hill with fading vitality, but scores points with its complex bouquet.

  • 2nd London off-line w/out UK CT'ers (http://www.tufnellparktavern.com): Non-blind. Had immediately.
    Impression: Almost Outstanding
Tonight's only bretty wine. What a comfort to have at least one! the acids on this BdM are nothing short of breath taking. A distinct rubbery aroma (not reduction) caress the palate in a good way. Still alive and kicking. Elegant rather than powerful.
Should have been tasted earlier in the evening.

  • at first i wondered if this was just very closed and earthy; however, i have had other bottles that were much better; corked

  • Disappointing.

Brought this to a very nice Italian restaurant and had it with a Carpaccio to start with and a Grilled New Zealand rack of lamb, minted red wine reduction and goat cheese mashed potatoes. This wine just never lived up to the challenge. Loads of earth and mushrooms dominate this wine along with sour cherry. A bit lacking in complexity. The mushroom and barnyard tones just killed it for me and the finish was way off for my palate. I can see how some would and do enjoy this style, but it should have stayed on the shelf where I purchased it.

  • plenty of clean dark berry fruit and earth, though still closed; good mix of acid and tannin; not quite right with the over peppered bbq lamb day one or the braised duck legs with mushroom day two (still a bit too potent for the mushrooms); hasnt quite come together yet but has room and time to improve

  • Drinks well but not overly complex. Classic Brunello and elegance but lacks some depth & length. medium body. Should improve a little over time but not one for long-term cellar.

  • Wonderful smooth wine. I have another bottle for next year! Our first futures purchase, won't be the last
