FTLOP 17th Anniversary; 11/18/2022-11/20/2022 (Seattle, Washington): Ruby-amber in color. There are red fruits, cranberry, red currant, and a touch of spirit on the nose. The entry has a slightly cloying sweetness, but that gives way on the mid-palate to some peasant, rich notes of spices and red fruits. Long finish with well-balanced tannins.

I've been drinking this bottle over the past year or so and am about halfway done. It has a delicious bouquet of toffee, hazelnut, sultanas, and winter holiday spices that work from the nose to the back of the palate. It's not the tawniest tawny -there are fresher fruit notes that peak out here and there, and it's not as dry as I prefer- but it does the job nicely. As far as QPR goes, this is a fantastic bargain.

I love Port. Tawny is not my top style so I am trying to broaden my palate, even if it means buying Costco's brand (they have some excellent stuff BTW). This one is medium garnet in color. The nose is quite pronounced, perhaps due to the big 20% ABV evaporating off those wafts? Nuts, caramel, singed orange, prune, raisins and a dried herb note. The palate is off-dry, with medium acidity, medium tannins and high alcohol which is noticeable. Medium (+) body and pronounced flavors of dried fruit, oxidative notes of caramel, dried herbs and that lovely orange component. The finish is quite lengthy, tannic, high in residual alcohol and really yummy. For under $20 it's a decent drop that gets 88 points from me and 4 stars.

What a delicious wine. It has a great blend of flavors and ends with a little zing(acid) on the finish which I love otherwise it would be cloying and unbalanced. Hard to not appreciate each sip more than the last. I’m going to stock up. I’m not even a big port lover and I’ve dabbled a little with some highly regarded vintage ones. I can appreciate their quality but just not my thing. This one though is just perfect to my palate.

Bottled in 2021. Medium-light garnet, lighter than I expect for a 10 yo tawny. Nose is subdued and very simple. Dried sweet red cherries, red currants, caramel, warm sweet baking spices, a slight bit of cedar and a hint of pepper. The alcohol is noticeable here. Lighter bodied and way more sugar than I was expecting. First thing that hits my pallet is orange peel, followed by sweet dried cherries and dark caramel. Light tannin structure leads into a medium finish of light cedar, light black pepper, burnt nuts, dark caramel, and orange rind. Significant alcohol burn.
Don’t get me wrong, this is not awful. If this was served to me blindfolded, I would think this was a ruby. While I don’t expect a ton of depth form a 10 yo tawny, but this was just lacking on all fronts. Pair with chocolates or very sweet desserts and it will be fine.
But, right next to this on the shelf for only 5 bucks more is the Graham’s 10 yo tawny – that is a much better buy. The only reason why I would by this is again will be to make a port wine reduction.

Not really a tawny as it is bright red. Plenty of fruit, which dominates the aged character and alcohol. Perhaps fashioned for the American palate? Very nice but atypical for a true tawny. Seeing other ratings, I would guess this varies from bottling to bottling.

Ok didn’t love it, didn’t hate it. Not a ton of depth, a bit overly sweet with an organe hint. Trying some Tawny ports as a new thing, not sure what I like yet but clearly not the same as a vintage port I spoiled myself with Ferreira, ironically also found at Costco, that is great! Anyway, just trying to find a decent everyday port, at 10 years old and for $17 I figured worth a try. Ok, not great not awful.

Dark ruby color, significant legs in the glass. Nose nutty, light cinnamon and plums — dark stone fruits. Palate surprisingly complex, a kaleidoscope of fruits and light nutty flavors with some honey notes, very nice lightness to the textures with good acidity especially on the finish. Really enjoyable, outstanding QPR. 91 pts

The wine looks tawny colored and the legs are fast. It smells like molasses, butterscotch and cherry. It tastes like butterscotch, diacetyl (butter), honey and sherry. The body is medium. The wine has juicy texture and finishes medium. The wine has low acidity and low tannin.
I have held on to this port for about 8 years. I didn't think it would still be good but it is a nice port. I like how light and flavorful it is, which sounds weird but it is a gentler port, maybe because of the aging. This is a great port, especially for the price!

My first Kirkland Tawny Porto, and for the money ($18.00), very good. Better than a lot of ports you will pay much more for. Previous reviews state Kirkland Tawny Porto was made by Fonseca. The bottle I purchased (9/2012) was bottled in 2012 and made by Taylor Fladgate (Quinta and Vineyard Bottlers Vinhos S.A.). Nutty, caramel flavor, with some oak, orange, nice flavor, pleasant nose. This is your "everyday" port, and the port you pull out for those who are not into ports. I don't think bottle ageing will do much, drink it now. Buy something else for that special dinner, or true port lovers.

My second bottle (bottled and bought in 2006). Since my first tasting of this tawny, I've had a bit more experience, having tasted a range of 10- and 20-year tawnies and have now been turned on to colheitas. Popped it last night to accompany taleggio and a nettle-wrapped chevre. The bottle threw a fine sediment that required careful decanting. Dark caramel color, perhaps more so than before. Fairly light on the nose, suggesting citrus and young stone fruit. Still very hot on the palate with toasted vanilla figuring prominently. I expect that it will open up with subsequent tasting. Overall, a pretty good purchase for $17.

Bottled in 2008. My first impression of this Tawny is not great in comparison to other 10 year Tawny Port I have had recently but I am going to try to reserve judgment for a bit. This port seemed to really lack the complexity and came over rather thin with too much alcohol showing on the nose and palate. This is produced for the Costco brand by Fonseca so I am going to pick up a bottle of the Fonseca 10 year Tawny that was also bottled in 2008 and compare the two of them before totally writing this one off as being just mediocre. I'll update this note soon with details of that comparison.
This is a BOB (Buyers own Brand) from the Costco chain (Kirkland is their "own" brand). Costco is a volume discount store that has some good stuff at even better prices at times. The back label says this is a Fonseca 10 yr. Alex R. found this bottle for me to try and I've had it over the past several days, slightly chilled as it has been rather hot here recently (low to mid 90's).
Color is a typical 10 year, nose is not very expressive but there is definite maple and mohogany and a little spice. The palate has some solid acidity, make that very prominate acidity, that has finally started to fade on the 3rd day of being open. Not very complex on the palate with a mint/eucalyptus and spice dominating. Under those there is some brown sugar, slight oak, and some pleasant heat that rounds out a rather short finish. This is not a stellar 10 year but is a decent QPR. IIRC, this retails for about $16-17, which is on the inexpensive side for a 10 yr. 85 points.

I was very disappointed with this 10-year Tawny. Not only did it lack the complexity and rich flavors that should be discernible after spending 10-years in oak, it also had a heavy alcohol-influenced aftertaste.

I'm not a very experienced port drinker, but this is the best tasting port I've ever had. Just perfect after a hearty meal. Nice red color with orange tinge. Bouquet is not strong, but a hint of caramel. On the palate, caramel and raisins with nice heat and good finish.

Popped this open with Pete to compare with a similarly priced ruby port (Graham's Six Grapes), accompanied by pears, roquefort and aged gorgonzola. Pale maroon color, significant legs, butterscotch aroma. Very rich mouthfeel with overwhelming flavor of vanilla. By contrast to the Graham's, it's hard to believe that this came from grapes at all! Quite enjoyable although different from my usual postprandial port potation.
Later tasting revealed a sweet cherry flavor under all that vanilla.... a bit like Robitusin cough syrup (I mean that in the best possible way).

Produced for Costco by Fonseca (on label). Really quite nice with just a little heat but pleasing fruit and nutty flavors. I didn't have a Fonseca 10 Year Tawny to compare side-by-side, but this was good.

Pale ruby in color with a brownish hue.
Acid is medium, sweet tawny port, alcohol 20%, tannins medium but ripe and integrated, finish long and some unpleasant notes.
Aromas of sweet candied raisins, nutmeg, cloves, spices.
On the palate, dates, raisins, currants, cassis, vanilla, leather.
There's some unpleasant qualities about the finish that are a bit hard from describe.
