No detailed notes. Very deep color and moderately complex, classicly St. Emilion nose. Ripe and fully mature on the palate with plenty of fruit remaining.

No detailed notes. The wine was almost opaque purple-red in the glass. It had a soaring spicy nose of mixed Asian spices, mint, camphor, some tar, plums, and hot iron. Nicely integrated on the palate with the fruit still holding the fore and plenty of tannin for the future. To my palate this was just a beautiful St. Emilion. Purchased on release and stored in my cellar since.

Remain rather poise after all these years, still share the same profile, quite refined and elegant, a bit tight on the palate! Definitely more open after another eight years of storage, dark ruby in colour, sweet nose of cedarwood, ripe brambly fruits, a touch spicy, super refined in texture, it will continue to evolve over the next decade, will be more open and more charming by then! Well made!

This wine was a very pleasant surprise. Decanted about 1 hour and consumed over the following four hours. Deep garnet-red color with little fading at the rim. Beautiful, balanced, generous, and even elegant on the nose with aromas of leather, cedar, plums, coffee, spice all evident and complimenting one another. Full and deep on the palate with ample fruit, beautifully resolved tannins, and a palate-coating richness that I didn't expect. As with the nose, there was class and elegance here. The finish lasted a good 30 seconds. All in all this was a wonderful glass of mature St. Emilion drinking squarely in its window. Purchased as futures and stored in my cellar since release.

it needs at least 2 hours of decanting. Quite tannic and harsh at the beginning (still for a 15 years old wine!), the tannins melted down after 2 hours, and the dark fruits finally became evident. A very nice wine but may turn better after 2-3 years.

Decanted ~ 1 hour. Intense black-garnet color, almost opaque at 1 cm. Complex, earthy bouquet of eucalyptus, red clay, crushed cranberries, and dried herbs. Quite intense on the palate with good fruit and acidity, a tannic streak that throws the balance off a bit, and along, intensely-chocolate finish to wrap things up. The finish lingers, even intensifies for at least 30 seconds. The only real nit I have with the wine is that the tannins are more obvious than the fruit (only slightly) and it lacks some depth in the mid-palate but in spite of these it's still an outstanding wine. Purchased as a future and kept in my cellar since release. Served with grilled hangar steak, squash gratin and a tomato-mozzarella risotto.

In a very good spot right now. Tannins have settled down nicely (compared to where they were in 2006, last time I tasted this). Fruit was restrained, as merlot often is. Earthy foundation.

Julian S-M's 1996 Bordeaux (Hawksmoor, London): Bright ruby. Medium density. Slightly dusty, dense, velverty texture, dark red fruit on the nose. Lovely upfront, good fruit, nice structure but falls away a bit in the middle though. Lacks persistence/development. Jolly nice though. Top ***

Straight from the bottle without decanting! Still a bit tight at the moment, smooth on the palate but the tannins still presentable! Nose of smoked tobacco, dried herbs and red fruits, healthy ruby in color, more open after 2 hours in the bottle. nose is full of fragrant flowers! Can be kept for 5 to 10 years! Very well made, very serious St-Emilion!

an unevolved closed nose, followed by a relatively astringent flavour hindered by unripe tannins which overwhelm the fruit. after 3 hours the tannin has softened a little allowing some more complex bramble and tobacco flavours to emerge. this will never reach the velvety beauty of the fabulous 1990 vintage!

Berry Bros and Rudd describes Moulin Saint-Georges as 64% Merlot, 34% Cab Franc and 34% Cab Sauvignon. That's a lot to ask of any wine. Seriously, though ,suspect it's 34% Cab Franc and no Cab Sauv. Good color showing beginning maturity, green but ripe flavors, still some tannin. Moderately good Bordeaux with classic rather than modern profile.

No formal notes, but this is delicious and still quite youthful. Vibrant fruit, whiffs of cocoa and smoke, and a nicely presented finish with some grip and verve. A bit tart and lacking in sweet fruit, but very enjoyable nonetheless.

Really drinking beautifully right now. Complex nose of plum, tobacco and semisweet chocolate. Palate of nicely interwoven black fruit and cigar box finish really lingers. Appearance is stll youthful, dark opaque with a garnet rim. Wish I had a few more bottles.

This wine was much better than anticipated. Decanted two hours plus before dinner which was about right. Classic St. Emilion Merlot black fruits and chocolat. Dense and delicious. It was the favorite of an 89 Meyney and a 94 Caymus.

Even a little sour today, though sense of plenty of underlying cassis fruit. Perhaps an awkward phase. Will taste again soon since may be drying out rather than needing more time.

Sweet berry nose. Not as complex as I'd hoped. Good with cheese.

Saturday Blind Tasting - Bordeaux '03 and Older (Chevalier Fine Wines): Blind. Attractive, fresh nose of plum, earth and horsey notes. Very good concentration and almost primary palate with tarry, earthy plum fruit. Good spice. Rich, but fresh. This has a ways to go.

Dark red delicious apple peel on the nose, with a decent amount of drying tannin's on the finish. Very enjoyable and nice QPR.

Ikke dekantert. Vanlilje, mørke bær og tobakk på nese. Høstskogbunn, muld og eik med pene tanniner. Pen sak, men i dag er faktisk årgang 2009 bedre!
