Belated birthday wine session at Wimborne. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of dark red cherries, purple boysenberries, stony minerality, light earth. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), structured medium+ tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dark red cherries, boysenberries, stony minerality, fresh earth, brambly spice. Very long finish. Excellent quality. Power with finesse. Young but already showing so well. I was guessing 2015 Gevrey Grand Cru. Turns out to be another stunning CSJ from Fourrier!

Great nose of red fruit. However, in my opinion, it still needs a few more years. Palate is still a little unresolved. This is even with a one hour decant as recommended below. Will check back in in a couple of years.

Acker JK 51st birthday in NYC. Red fruited perfumes, spices and moderate Gevrey dirt, followed by red cherry inflected flavors. There is certainly a ood depth of flavors, the mouth is very elegant, just lacking a bit in density and sweetness, but that's 2014, not a generous vintage. Good lingering mineral finish at the end. Was much better right after opening than after 3 hours of air as it tightened a lot. This is a bit skinny to be at grand cru level but this is very good and in need of another 5 years to reveal its potential.

Bottle 3/3. This time we decanted for an hour which made a massive difference. Nose of fruit then autumnal leaves, stem and smoke. Did need some swirling but pretty amazing evolution. Palate of ultra pure pinot fruit (cherry mainly, some cranberry), mineral, plum, stewed fruit and spice. At times somewhat reticent but mostly delivered a solid 20-30 second finish. Pretty amazing balance of generous fruit and emerging old world secondary notes. 95-96 this admittedly is still just barely in its drinking window and is drinkable now with air but better yet wait a couple more years. Fourrier's magic! Totally blew away a Ponsot Clos de la Roche and a Marcassin we have had around the same time (see my other notes).

Decanted for 30 minutes then served. Upon opening explosive dark fruit aromas and a dark ruby colour, which both eased somewhat by the time we sat down. Nose of mineral and green stem. Palate of cranberry, crunchy red fruit, mineral and more stemmy notes. Very balanced and classy with a light finish of fruit and mineral that was quite persistent. This is drinkable but seems just entering its drinking window. 94 (me) 95 (my wife). The stem notes made the wine more interesting.
I wanted to revisit a wine I’ve considered well made after a week of drinking heavyweights so I’d get some extra perspective. Even in the shadow of several 98-100 point wines this delivers a charming profile that lacks some intricacy but makes up for it with a silky, savory expression of a cool fruited vintage. Sour cherry, animale. Some tannins in the finish to resolve (93-94)
I don’t usually write about wines that didn’t come from my own cellar, but this young beauty deserves some love. Indeed early on in what will be a very long life, but oh so giving even at this stage. It is clear Fourrier, with absolute Grand Cru weight, density and intensity. It shows red and blue fruit, hints of winter citrus, fresh violets and a fine mineral infusion. There is exceptional delineation, finesse and seductive texture and the finish is supremely long and focused with great tension and fine grained tannins. Surely many more fantastic years ahead but still a joy to try at this stage and to find on the illustrious wine list at Per Se.
Luftet i 5 timer. Kirsebærrød farge. Åpen nese med delikat stilkbruk, knuste/rørte jordbær av høy kvalitet. Lulter helt nydelig. Saftig i munn med ganske tøff struktur i munn. Heftig syre. Rå kons og lengde. Drikker ikke så helt verst, men bør ligge 5-10 år til.

Wild and expressive, bright red fruits, dried flowers, some savoury, sweet and pungent spices. Very focus, light weight yet intense on palate. So aromatic and pure. Stunning.

PoB - Roulot / Fourrier Magnum Dinner (Hong Kong): Lots of bright red cherry, touch of spices. Good mid palate, elegant and silky. A really great wine that charms you from the first sip. PS: Had this wine again from bottle a few months later at another event and it confirmed this terrific showing,

Holiday Dinner - Champ, Burg, Piedmont, Rayas and a ringer, Bordeaux and etc. (Officina - Washington D.C.): Very youthful expressive nose displaying generous cool black fruit and a hint of red, blackberry, black cherry, cranberry juice, crushed rose petal, sap, stem, cedar/oak and mineral. Excellent concentration, layers upon layers of concentrated cool black fruit, dense and unctuous yet beautifully polished, bright acidity, strong mineral presence, and a long intense black fruit and sap driven finish. Although incredibly young, generous opulent fruit a la Jean Marc makes it really pleasurable to drink. It is purer and fresher but perhaps a bit more angular than the 16 version. Excellent consistent showing.

2014 red Burgundy tasting w/ incredible whites served blind (Eddie V's - Tysons Corner, VA): Similar nose as the Rousseau initially but a bit more meatier and riper. Expressive nose displaying crushed blackberry, fresh cranberry sauce, a hint of strawberry and rhubarb tart, strong sap and earth. Excellent concentration, packed perfectly ripe blackberry, dense, bright acidity, strong earthy mineral, very fine tannins and a long crushed blackberry driven finish. With two hours of air, the fruit gets brighter, more precise and redder. This will also take two more decades to reach the peak. Really nice showing.

Pre La Paulée Zachy's BYO Dinner (Sessions at The Presidio - SF, CA): Welcome pour (well, after the Krug welcome pour) at the Zachy's BYO La Paulée dinner. The nose has loads of meaty spice and black cherry. The palate is a bit lean and firm right now. Needs lots of time.

Excellent. Energetic red fruit that already shows a supple quality. Nice balance and quality of fruit, better than many other 14s which come across as lean

Superb. Long, textured, suave, hint of spice. Quite dense and closed right now. Would let rest for a good ten years (the Griotte on the other hand was much more open and ready).

Zachys La Paulee "Warm-up" Dinner (Lafayette - New York NY): Small glass, brief note. Black and red fruit come across as very ripe and concentrated, but a bit jammy and backward for right now. Nose particularly seemed closed. I wouldn't open until at least 2020, probably better 2025 or later.

Clearly the best wine in the 14 lineup of fourrier tonight. The nose had big purple fruit and caramel. Palate had superb depth and density, far more superior than the chambertin, griotte chambertin and lateiciere chambertin. The spice and fruit on the palate were undeniably alluring. This is the wine you should buy among fourriers '14. 94 potential. This is about elegance more than power.

A bit of oak on the nose, flowers, earth, dark fruit. On the palate fresh, tight, mineral, powerful, long, lingering. Not very generous, a little tart, but very fine. 91-92+

Domaine Fourrier Cellar Visit and Tasting (Gevrey-Chambertin): Barrel tasting at the domaine. All black fruit with lots of density and power. Perhaps slightly less elegant than the Combes aux Moines just tasted, but larger. Also 93-94 point potential.
Also tasted what might become the next vintage of Clos St Jacques Cuvée Centenaire. This is in two barrels (one new, the 2nd 3 yo) and includes the first pass through the vineyard from top to bottom for the oldest vines that need to be harvested first. Similar to the other cuvee but slightly longer and more elegant with nuanced textures. 94-95 point potential if bottled separately (in which case I will separate these tasting notes).
