Wholesome. Dark plum, cassis, sous bois & dark berries all preserved in a jar. Fleshy and chewy tannins with plenty of layers with a medium to long length finish

D+0h: some deposit in the filter, some more in the bottle, smells strangely of raspberry and blackberry D+3h: dark as ink, smells of wet cardboard and a little bit of blackberry, in the mouth wet cardboard and acidity, in the aftertaste wet cardboard and acidity, good length (30 sec), it’s a pity that it’s corked.

Sleek and minerally Bordeaux, needs time and air to loosen up but when it does a nice hot lava rock, inky black mouth-puckering fruit and crushed mineral notes emerge.

Enjoyable, nice rounded medium bodied with some layering. Predominantly dark and sour cherry, with some hints of blackberry and leather...not much of a finish and structure is not robust or overly complex

A few of age has really added a lot to this wine. Just great right out of the bottle, the wine is round, soft, fruity, fresh and earthy with a nice, smaller resemblance to the Grand Vin. This is a fine introduction into what's going on with Calon Segur these days.

Another vintage would push a higher score. This is a great wine for a second label from a fantastic producer. Very dry, high acidity, high tannins and deep ruby in colour. Loaded with dark fruit with smokey wood at the back. I really enjoyed it.

Opaque bright purple. Jammy, cherry but alcoholic nose. Tannic and acidic at palate entry. Sour cherry, preserved plum and licorice followed though. Medium long finish of savory notes, black pepper and cinnamon sugar. Medium body, but not balanced with high acid and sharp tannins, might need a few more years.

Wasn’t that impressed with the bottle I opened 18 months ago , but the Bottle I opened last night was really impressive. A hefty wine with a really pungent aroma that tickles your nostrils , the wine has a sweetness to it that worked for me. I drank it along side the 2014 caronne ste gemme which is another really great value wine.. the calon only just came out on top, it offered a little more in depth and the nose was slightly more interesting. Excellent value and drinking really well now .. enjoy

Juicy and round, some sweetness, good acidity. Really friendly wine and above expectations. If I am not mistaken there is 64% Merlot in the blend. 88 - 89

Best Bordeaux I've had in some time. From a half bottle. Smooth, fruity, medium tannins, quite hot with alcohol, but most of all, harmoniously balanced cedar and fruit, with a kind of herby hot spice in the tail.

This drinks awesome right now. Wish I had more. Nose of dark berries, vanilla and cloves. Flavors range from plum and vanilla, a little tart at the end. Smooth and medium to full.

Drinking great right now, excellent fruity body, which is gaining complexity. Better than one year ago - give it 2 more years and this will be delicious!

this was an amazing wine the first time....just opened up and screamed at you. lots of layers of delicacy and feminism...dark purple ink fruit, cassis enveloped in your traditional Bordeaux framework. got better with time...super easy to drink...tasted like a $150-200 bottle!

A strong candidate for the best second wine in Bordeaux. Inky black to the edge. Rich, lushly textured, fruity, and delicious, with ample acidity and tannin. Significantly more rounded and approachable young than most first wines.

opaque inky violet color. Nose dark fruited, some leafy green herbal notes, an earthy note emerges with time. Palate somewhat closed, still a stiff wall of tannin; firmly structured dark fruit with a brightness on the finish, strong hints of tobacco leaf and herbal complexity. Still so young and hard to read but good potential with more time and air (PnP this time). 90 pts

Opened for 1.5 hour and was a bit harsh at the beginning. At over 2 hours wine started to mellow out and became more expressive. At 3 hours it was much better and became a rather nice second wine of Calon Segur. Provided the inexpensive price, I really have no complaints. Of course, if compared with the Grand Vin of Calon Segur this would lack complexity and body, but that's to be expected from a second wine!

Finer grained tannin than 2015 Capbern tasted alongside. Rounder too. 14.5 abv but doesn't show the heat at all. Soft, plush. Definitely a Merlot dominated wine. Blue flowers. Relatively dark fruits - plum, cherry. Fruit forward. Licorice, raspberry.
This is great on its own. Not a serious wine that will be ready for business in a couple of years time. Or with a roast chicken, yum! 88.

Quite opulent aromas of dark fruit with depth. More likesourish cherries on the palate. Good but not great. Needs food for drinking now as the tannin is quite harsh still.

Nose: Youthful black cherry, plum, chocolate, oak and cedar upon opening. Tight, but you can see the layers. Palate: Lush and vibrant palate once open. Round supple red fruit, cocoa, blackberry, licorice and cedar. Mineral/graphite qualities as well. Finish: Quite complete and good length.
As others have mentioned it needs a few years. However, for the price this is hard to beat. 89+

All dark fruits and cedar upon opening. Tightly coiled and somewhat unyielding on day 1. As the days went by, this wine opened up and started to become more enjoyable. The sweetness of the oak become more prevalent and the wine took on a rounder, more supple quality. This wine needs a few years to come together, but if you open now give this several hours of air.

Zachy's Extravaganza (Longview Gallery - Washington, DC): Super fun but also impressive structure and depth for a wine of this price point. Black cherries, earth, tar, floral – could improve for at least a handful of years easily.

A bit chunky right now as you would expect for a young wine although in 3-5 years this should be lovely; on the 2nd day much more open with a nice spine of black fruit layered with spices and some gritty soil.
For the same price though I can buy a 2014 Angludet which is utterly superb and offers much more immediate pleasure.

Recent Bordeaux Arrivals (Fine Wines of Stockton): Very dark and intense wine. Nose is red fruit and chocolate. In the mouth it is very chewy, and has some alcoholic heat. The finish is hot and chewy. A big ripe wine that really needs more time and I am not sure it will settle down.

Fruity, fresh and approachable, this wine was produced from 64% Merlot and 36% Cabernet Sauvignon. Its sweet blackberry profile conceals the 14.7% alcohol. It should be fun to drink on release. 86-88 Pts
