Med garnet. Pronounced. Floreal and spicy with just enough fruit to balance. Cherry under spirit. Nervy. Bloody and medicinal. Gentle oak, cedar and smoke. Textured. Med+ tannin, firm. 13% abv. Long spicy finish.VG, lacking some concentration.

Dekantert 30 min.

Lette tanniner, frisk syre.

Pinot under $100 (East Bistro): My first Marc Roy but was rather disappointed by this. Popped and poured this as I wasn't sure how it would evolve with air. Very pretty floral nose with a little VA but the palate didn't match the elegance of the nose, tannins were rather harsh and the structure didn't seem to match up to the fruit. Agree with previous comments that this seemed a little advanced - I've noticed notes for her wines are overwhelmingly more positive in their youth. Anyone has experience regarding how their wines age?

Dark soy bouquet of meat iron, berries and spices. Elegant palate displaying finesse of dark cherries and berries fruit with a good mix of earth, forest floor, iron minerals. At the start of a good drinking window and will continue to hold. Excellent village.

Wine swap with a friend. Tasted blind. Drank in Conterno Sensory. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour going garnet. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of rose petals, earth, stony minerality, red cherries. Some salt cured meat with more air. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), medium- tannins, medium body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of red cherries, red plum, earth, salty crunchy stony minerality. Medium+ finish. After 4 hours of air, nose opened up more with sauvage and some more animal meat notes. Palate additional notes of orange peel, sweet tea, and smokey savoury animal meat to the finish. Very good quality. Feels more mature than expected for 2014, but I think I have observed for a while the 2014 red villages have been heading in an early maturing direction. Elegant Gevrey.

Dark ruby. Deliciously earthy rustic sausage with animale, very wild and Gevrey, complex spice, dark cherries and limestone. On the palate quite a savoury, almost medicinal profile, dark fruits, tannins becoming more romaine than with several hours air.

Joli nez floral. Bouche plus minérale que gourmande, contrairement à l’habitude, encore assez tannique. Belle énergie, c’est frais et léger, agréable mais il manque un peu de dimension à ce stade. 89 pts
Sans doute meilleur dans deux ans.

Reduced and blank for the first hour, subsequent to which there is a pretty, perfumed but relatively light red berried simplicity. Following 4 hours open really gets going: dark cherry, smoke, almost tarry, charcuterie, Oolong tea, Chinese spice and complex perfumed scents of roses and peonies, very Gevrey and utterly delicious, though probably best to wait a good long while.

Had a series of fine wines at the new Elizabeth Hotel's Emporium and Wine Market. This was one of the top four wines and was lush and supple with woody violet notes. Had the best bouquet of any we tried. It IS QUITE young, but the staff was kind enough to decant. It does need breathing and decanting. Best plan is to leave it alone until 2019 or after.

Nose was not impressive but on the palate this wine is in perfect balance. Slight tannic bite, good acidity, fruit showing well and a touch of spices. Subtle and elegant. Love Marc Roy.

Lunch ABC au QG. Un beau vin fragrant, parfumé, c'est un charmeur, léger pour l'appellation, mais délicieux. Encore jeune mais très approchable, comme d'habitude. 91 pts

Opens with reduction then steadily builds a true hedonists nose: dark fruits, cola, confection, orange rind, Oolong tea. That palate is more closed and less easy to access. But the nose is truly gorgeous and overall I think this holds much promise.

Deliciously perfumed. Silkily textured. Impeccably proportioned. Red and blue fruits abound. There's some sweet earth and a hint of meat too. It builds in the mouth and fans out on the finish. Just so tasty.

Domaine Marc Roy Cellar Visit and Tasting (Gevrey-Chambertin): Barrel tasting at the domaine. For me this is a step up from the Gevrey VV and La Justice just tasted. More powerful and dense fruit with good spice and all components already in harmony. Good right now, with 90-91 point potential.

A taste of many 2014 wines - village to grand cru - from Gevrey Chambertin (Roi Chambertin, Gevrey Chambertin): Now you're talking. Wow, this has the most sumptuous quality of the three that I tasted by Marc Roy. It is rich and seductive, a bit more fresh - and every bit as serious and structured than the other two. Lovely wine.
