  • Delicious. Very Meunier tonight with a savory, mushroomy quality. Drink over next 2-3 yrs.

  • Solid and in a good spot. Balanced with nice depth and well integrated acidity.

  • Poped and poured a glass. Sharp bubbles that hid the wine. Decanted and consumed over 1.5 hours. After 45 minutes this really began to show some depth. Light nose of brioche. Flavors of brioche, tart apple, ripe stone fruits, typical pinot meunier profile, with moderate+ complexity and a long lingering finish. Some richness toward the end. Long-term upside.

  • Three Champagnes and a pirate - with a Malvasia di Bosa to finish: Drunk blind together with two other Champagnes and a 2007 Ferrari (Trento doc). No TN, from memory the next day.
My wotn, in perfect balance and with nothing out of place. Lighter and leaner than the Marguet, it shares with it a light oxidative note on the nose. Nice play between acidity and minerality on the long finish.

  • I liked the fact that it was not too citrusy but had some roundness. Went well with both oysters with red wine vinaigrette and duck rilletes : everything went well with this champagne!

  • Les Barres vertical for 冬至 (Chicago, IL): If I remember correctly, this is the declassified from from Les Barres in 2010, which wasn't made due to either quality or quantity issues. In any case, this doesn't seem to have the same aromatic and flavour intensity as the Les Barres wines. It's a little dirty, and the palate isn't as concentrated; this definitely feels like a step down. Mind you, there is still plenty to like in this wine, with its mild mushroom notes and hints of fruit.

  • Had it as aperitif for a dinner with friends, no TN, from memory.
Indeed "extra brut". A vertical, serious champagne, all on tension and minerality, chalky texture, grapefruit and rocky flavours. Invigorating.

  • Atractivo monovarietal de meunier. Dorado brillante. Notable persistencia.

  • We enjoyed a pre-dinner bubble at ON Dining in Hong Kong. Nicolas recommended this Champagne, which is 100% Pinot Meunier, mostly never affected by phylloxera. Les Barres, which is their brand wholly made from vines never touched by phylloxera was not made in 2010.

With only 1,800 bottles produced (ON Dining has 24 so hurry down to get some), we were pleased Nicolas pulled this luvly from the special cellar as he thought more interesting to try than Les Orizeaux or Les Barres, both NVs from the same producer.

Served in larger bowl champagne flutes...we would have gone for white Bordeaux glasses for more air, but these more ample bodied flutes did the trick. Thin, elegant bubbles in a slightly darker golden yellow visual. Aromas of yeast already present with pleasant toasty oak and ripe pears. Very nice. Palate of ripe pears and apples with a hint of citrus and a very dry, tangy finish that begs you to sip more. A bit expensive, but a joy to sip. Thanks, Nicolas!
