- Ruby color with slow forming legs and aromas of cherry, blackberry, black pepper and smokey. It's balanced and has flavours of black currant, cherry and smokey with a medium/full body. Round texture with a long finish - Big, grabbing tannins. The wine needs time. Its delicious and full of Barbera fruit.

9/16/2017 SPC Class WK3: California: Medium garnet, moderate aroma intensity showing some age: notes of plum, oak. Dry, with medium body, lively acidity, and moderately weak, soft tannins. Flavors of cranberry-rasberry. Well balanced, and long finish.

Impromptu Healdsburg Trip - Memorial Day Weekend (Healdsburg, CA): Med ruby. Ripe dose of fruit and sun with ripe cherry, blackberry, blood orange, slight earth. Palate is dry med plus body, high acid high tannins-papery and somewhat bitter. Love the nose-the palate needs a bit of time to integrate. Fruit and earth.

Deep, inky purple. Probably will appeal to fans of CA wine, as opposed to Italian barbera fans. A lot of warm plum and ripe black fruit on the nose and palate. Fairly full bodied with a nice tannic tug at the back end. Ultimately this has insufficent acid/brightness to offset the somewhat monolithic fruit and I switched to something else to finish off my meal. 14.6% abv

Sam Bilbro has a bit of a Midas touch with this grape. There is a clear California-sunshine fruit element, but also the tension of Barbera at its best. After a bit of sappiness on the front end, the wine gains focus, and shows it's claws from the mid-palate through the finish. This has depth of fruit, and also tannin to support the body. I would love to see what this does with 5-7 years of age, but I sorely doubt that I will allow any bottles to last that long. Just fabulous stuff.

This was a wonderful, pure, unadorned rendition of a grape that too often gets destroyed by new oak in the hands of other producers. Black raspberry and other fruit tones were weaving in and out with warm herbs and a subtle earthy note. Four of us were drinking this, and everyone kept reaching for the bottle. It was gone in a flash, so I did not get to follow the wine for long. It was flat out delicious though.
