Riesling! (Yokohama, Japan): Served blind. Slight kerosene, lime and green apple, cream, with time a little peach and sweet spice and mineral notes. Juicy but sweet rather than off dry, breadth, a little alcohol warmth, sweetly spiced, the stone fruit and apple more to the fore but still with that lime underpin. I called German, not Mosel, Auslerse 2001

Dark golden, Honey and flowers in the nose and on the palate, medium sweetness and length. Very good wine but lacking a bit acid, strcuture and length to be great.
I expected a bit more from this famous estate. A bit to one dimensional for my taste. Fully mature but will Keep in shape for another 5 years.

After a week in the fridge WITHOUT cork, the last glass of this btl showed increased depth and balance. Amazing aromas with just the right amount of petrochemistry and lush fruits. Giving a "later youth" impression. Per os, this is now (finally) singing again.
What a fantastic way to grow a young German wine. Now sporting all the aromas from previous encounters including an enhanced 'maturing' fruity palette on the palate. Fabulous length and the acids lend themselves to beautiful somersaults as you swollow.
I do miss the transparency of other Riesling wines in this one. Please forgive me, but it renders the impression a little bit on the plump side. Still, this girl will never need to worry about dancing partners :-)
We shared a mid-week glass of this wine and wife frowned just as previous Saturday. But: tonight, she only smiled :-)
Tonight preceded by a 2005 Cha de Beaucastel and followed by a young Languedoc that overperformed heavily.
I almost lost faith compared to expectations and previous btls enjoyed. But it made a terriffic come-back. We will try to be kind and not open the next btl (8 btls to go) before 2020.

Opened with potato crisps with nori taste and a great movie after kendo practice.
No decant and slightly too warm rendered this "only" 90 points. Nose is far more richer than the palate tonight. Half the btl placed in the fridge without a cork for further pleasures tomorrow night, and hopefully an even better and more rich experience.

Cellartracker in the flesh #2 with Stefan, Akiko, Atsushi & Yukari. (Le Message, Yokohama, Japan): Medium minus aromas of apple, peach, lime, slight herbs (thyme?) and slight kerosene. In the mouth the wine is off dry with flavours of peach, ripe apple. The wine is very clean tasting with slight mid palate coarseness and a touch of alcoholic warmth on the medium plus length finish. I guessed German, Auslese, warm vintage - I plumped for 06 but then I don't know my German vintages I'm ashamed to say - further South than Mosel.

Yellow. Nose bursting with all the things to love with German Riesling. And Yuzu! Palate gave a little plump feeling compared to the previous btl. But this is very fine juice that seems to have the oomph it takes to make slightly old bones. Wife: too sweet. 9 btls to go, now time for us to let them rest. Next one ~2020.

A fabulous nose explodes in your face with oil paint, petrochem, minerality, Riesling fruit, orange rind, lemons, white flowers etc en masse. In the mouth it is sweet but balanced perfectly by the lively acids. Rich, concentrated, made from mature berries, layered, restrained and just bursting with Riesling fruit. Somersaulting down our throats - 1st btl to be emptied. Showing some maturity but still a young wine with a shiny future ahead. Married especially the fois gras with eel (my ECO-me protests but the gourmet-me enjoys) and sweet potato. Also married most of the cheeses from the cheese plate. 1st from case. Brought for opening at the restaurant. 11 btls to go, next one in ~2015. At La Rochelle Akasaka w/Kosugi couple, '04 Mitolo G.A.M. and '98 Musar.

Rather sweet and a bit monolithic, golden grapes and ripe peaches, very rich but lacks zip, interest and definition at the moment. Awkward stage no doubt, as concentration and length are fine, so will come round but needs time. Three bottles left, retaste in 2017. Score based on potential rather than today's actual performance.

Another amazingly good bottle. Light yellow, looks as fat as it tastes. Incredible nose of sweet exotic fruits and smoke. Full bodied, very sweet and fat, yet ultimately balanced with a good backbone and exotic fruits, spices and minerals galore. My favorite 05 spätlese. And almost impossible to hold on to the remaining bottles until this reaches maturity... in 20 years time or so...

Light yellow, fat tears. A wonderful nose of exotic fruits - peach, pineapple, mango, lychee as well as flowers and minerals. Full-bodied, fat and sugary yet light/ethereal in its feel and kept in check by good acid. On day 2 it seemed even more intense and with a more pronounced note of grapefruit. I would have loved to see what it was like on day 3, but the bottle wasn't large enough to support this wish... category: personal favorites. Rating: 94+

David Bowler Spring 2007 Portfolio Tasting (New York City): Light lemon color. Closed on the nose, but waiting on the palate is a mass of red and white fruit: raspberries, apple, pear, even a touch of mango. Great balance and an endless finish. Should be wonderful in a few years.

Dee Vine 2005 Germans (SF, CA): $57. There is some greatness here, with a longer finish it would be excellent. Rarely does a wine soar from sweet to tart and back, practically telling a story. Of course, for sixty bucks, it should tuck you in at night. Very Good+.
