One of those very rare wines that when you bring it to your nose and mouth to sniff and sip the loud restaurant noise fades away as you are stunned by the beauty of the experience. The excruciatingly tight DIAM30 closure worked to preserve it since the color was pale straw. The ever evolving fragrance is mesmerizing. You feel you are on a mountain slope in May inhaling the variety of spring flowers surrounding you, topped off by a light dusting of sweet vanilla. Not at all a heavyweight, the texture is medium full and pleasing. Perfect acidity; no trace of harsh lemon. Incredibly elegant. Although the flavors could deepen with more bottle age it sublime now in its lively adolescence.

Lafon Montrachet vertical with some great champagne and reds. (Four Seasons, Minneapolis, MN): Vertical tasting of Montrachet 2000-2019: Some matchstick initially that dissipates with air. Pear, honeysuckle, beeswax, and minerality. Exploding palate so rich but with precision acidity and freshness. Perfect balance. Finish is never ending. My third favorite of the tasting behind the '10 and '19.

Twelve Vintages of Lafon Montrachet: This vintage is consistently sublime, and tonight's bottle was no exception. It explodes on the palate. Fantastic now, with an endless life ahead of it. My #2 of the night.

Atlanta Amoureuses & Monty Dinner: Double decanted for 1.5 hours. Unbelievable. Everything is here and dialed up to 11. So much power and depth, but lifted and airy with a sublime finish. Simply as good as it gets.

Bright, fresh, and explosively reductive. Smoke and flint about light golden fruit. Loads of fruit power, high acid, really amazing even at this youthful stage. This does not have the same golden dense character of the ‘08 a few nights ago (‘08 reminded me more of mid-2000s DRC Montrachet whereas this ‘14 is more comparable to early 2010s Coche Corton Charlemagne) A very impressive wine already. Beautiful and powerful. Spectacular.

A memorable gathering (BRX American Bistro - Great Falls, VA): Incredibly elegant yet expressive nose displaying noble pure white fruit, pear, white peach, lemon curd, beeswax, light honey, sweet spices and crushed rock. Perfect harmony and balance, layers upon layers of concentrated white fruit, oily yet weightless a la Yquem, so elegant, pure, precise and energetic, perfect amount of acidity, unbelievably mineral and the never ending finish. It is the perfect expression of Le Montrachet, combining the finesse and elegance of Chevalier and the power and concentration of Batard. I have rated five wines 100pts, ’10 and ’12 Coche Corton Charlemagne, ’09 Coche Perrieres, twice, and ’08 DRC Montrachet. The 14 Lafon Montrachet is even better as the purity and elegance are mind boggling. The best white wine of my life.

Decanted for two hours, and back in the bottle for two hours, then drunk slowly over a long dinner. Absolutely beautiful. Some of the 2014 white burgs are drinking quite well notwithstanding their youth, and this was stunning.

Gorgeous nose, opulent, much more expressive than DRC. Long mineral finish, ultra light as it glides across the palate. Very precise, albeit not yet as complex as it will likely be in time. This is the power without weight Burgundy we all chase. Hopefully it will enjoy a long life free of premature oxidation - this had a Diam 30 cork.

Somebody Was Going to Commit Burgundy Infanticide...It Might as Well be Us (Austin, TX): Open 30+ minutes before serving alongside the DRC 2014 Montrachet. Floral start with ripe apple, quince and lemon curd. Similar flavors with spice hints and layers of flavors with unfolding textures. So incredibly long and precise. Perfect balance. So amazing now, possibly even with upside.

Restaurant Fitzgerald (Rotterdam , NL): Wow! Huge intense nose of lime, pears and apricot, with aromatic tension and complexity. On the palate very rich and complex, nutty, spicy with amazing balance, power and magnificent length.
Leiden visits Fitzgerald Restaurant in Rotterdam for 50 year Anniversary: Decanted for 7 hours. Spectacular wine, best Montrachet I have ever drunk. Nose very broad, full of weight, different fruit and floral tones, some vanilla, some almond, changing over time, many different layers to drown in. Powerful taste, fills the mouth completely, a lot of weight but at the same time also weightless. Fruit, minerals, creaminess. Finish lasting for minutes. It is really a special event to drink this wine, taste stays with you long after your last sip. Comtes Lafon has had some lesser years, but is right on track now. Amazing wine.

Huge smoky, punchy lift with pristine white peach fruit as well. The palate is full, intense and layered. It is such a powerful wine but it rolls around the mouth and is not in the slightest bit heavy. It builds through the palate, titillating the senses and finishing with a crescendo of rocks, cream and fruit. Awesome wine!

A rare bottle of 2014 Lafon Montrachet that was very good vs. sublime. Enjoyed by all, but subpar compared with what it can be.
