Very nice, pleasant in mouth. Works well with homemade pizza, (gorgonzola and caramelized onion alt. Funghi and truffle salami). Might still be even better in a year.

Popped and poured. Medium garnet color. Nose was not overly aromatic but showed nice red and black cherry notes, hint of baking spice, roasted plum. Similar flavors on the palate with a slight herbal cough drop/licorice flavor. Medium+ acid and tannin but enjoyable now with food. Moderate finish. Very good overall concentration for a normale barolo and will probably continue to develop.

Mycket bra.

The nose is worth a 95 --- like a half-dozen strong solvents of the most wondrous sorts, in complex combination. My goodness. Breathed in deeply, it almost makes you wonder what on earth you can pair it with.
After that, the wine drunk is a tiny bit of a letdown, how could it not be, but it does taste wonderful, if fruitier and richer and arguably a hair sweeter than other, drier barolos? Also a hair more monotone?
Anyway, get some if you can, and inhale.

Dark colour, medium bodied and highly tannic. Nose is very compelling, sweet tar, roses, cherries and smoke. not as compelling on the tasting for me. Concentrated palate that is still a bit coiled up and not revealing the full bouquet of flavours hinted by the nose.
I found it a little austere at this stage but still enjoyed the long and dusty finish. Probably better in another handful of years. Probably a 90-91 but I added a couple of points for potential.

Absolute stunner QPR. Super compelling normale from Scavino, and I think this is mainly a testament to how good the 2013 vintage was in barolo. I absolutely loved the bright fruit and sturdy acidic backbone. It wasn't terribly austere here. I think 2013 vintage from any producer is one to continue to stock up on.

Decanted for 30 mins. Medium ruby color with a bit of orange toward the rim. Aromatic nose of red and black cherries, licorice, floral notes, sweet baking spices. Similar flavors on the palate with spicy red fruit and cherry cough drop notes. Medium+ acid and a lot of tannin still present. Drying finish. Better with food than on its own. Would continue to hold for a few more years before retrying. Has a lot of potential though.

The 2013 Barolo is deep garnet in color and moderately opaque. This needs a good two hour decant, but once it opens up the nose emits aromas of cherry, strawberry, black raspberry, blackberry, anise, dried leather, tobacco, truffle, garden herbs, and oak. On the palate, I get notes of muddled raspberry, black cherry, pomegranate, licorice, rose, crushed granite, scorched earth, chocolate, clove, black tea, and cigar box. This wine is full-bodied with high acidity, medium (+) tannins, and a long finish. The 2013 Paolo Scavino Barolo is a great value, and I would suggest giving this another 3 years in bottle and consuming it over the following decade.

Originally, I thought this a bland very unimpressive nebbiolo, but four hours in, the acid - note not the fruit - emerged, and it became a serious nebbiolo, I said recently that nebbiolo needs a strong acid backbone to express itself fully, and that finally came good here. Wait a few hours for the fruit to emerge in Bordeaux, just maybe it is wait a few hours for the acidic backbone to emerge in nebbiolo. Strikes me at this point, this may be the case with nebbiolo.

From a magnum, opened, but not decanted for 30 minutes before pouring. This was the WOTN for my wine group. Notes of black cherry, spice and maybe licorice. Very drinkable now. Medium plus length finish.
This is so easy drinking. Super balance. Everything at its place. And so Barolo! Good nose and taste. Drink now and over the next 6 years. Very interesting and good!

I’m not terribly familiar with Barolo and purchased this to try. This is still quite closed but it has good bones/structure. At present, it lacks a nose, though hints of plums are present. The tongue is smooth! Plums, mild pomegranite, licorice, chocolate and vanilla are all present. Tannins are still quite firm. I would give this another 3-5 years, but very enjoyable as is.

Purchased this bottle at a restaurant in DC called Obelisk and paired with a multi course fixed dinner that included Squab, wild board Ragu and waygu beef. Quite approachable, balanced plum, cassis, cranberries, black tea, cedar notes, earthy tannin finish. The core of this Barolo is refined by elegance, drinkable now, but certainly could stand a few years on its side. Memorable wine, memorable meal!

Young drinkable barolo always makes me happy. This 2013 is adorable. It is a great wine that delivers all the charming Nebbiolo ingrediens. Will keep being in the window for many years. My buddie called it elegant, and I think it is spot on. To me 2013 seems to be an outstanding vintage in Barolo - and the 4-5 wines I have had from Castiglione Falletto are really extraordinary. So refined and balanced. Leather and red fruit welcomes you. Then the earthy and peppery punch. Tiny hint of rose perfume, but less than normal. Tannins are constantly present, but it suits it so well. Perfect entry level Barolo. Bravo.

Plutôt fermé présentement. Après une heure de carafe, on commence à percevoir un Barolo très classique dans un millésime qui semble lui aussi donner du Nebbiolo bien typé, sans rien qui dépasse. Very good value with aging potential. Plenty of tannin I softened up with a 2.5 minute decant in the iSommelier. Nice slightly brown color with tart cherry flavors and hints of liquor. I was torn between 92-93 points and 92.5 isn't an option but perhaps a 93 on the next one in a few years. Too bad I only bought 2 but at least 1 remains.

Clean developing nose with a medium intensity. There are distinct aromas of rubber and stewed black cherry. Swirling reveals notes of liquorice and aniseed.
The wine is dry with medium(+) acidity, high alcohol, and medium(+) body. The high level tannins are chalky in nature and very grippy on the gums and cheeks. The flavours have a medium(-) intensity and follow the nose with notes of black cherry. There are multiple notes on the palate that were not detected on the nose: subtle vanilla, and sultana and tobacco notes that develop on the finish. The finish has a medium(+) length.
This is a good quality wine. The flavours are somewhat restrained, but have a great balance with the acidity and the alcohol. The chalky tannins are quite dominant, building momentum over the finish. In its current state, the wine is showing complexity with primary, secondary, and tertiary characteristics. The subtle oak treatment allows the primary and tertiary notes to be fully expressed. The wine has a finish with great length.
This wine drinks well now, and is suitable for further ageing.
A mere baby, but one you can tell will become a beauty. Varietally correct, almost laughably, with that classic cherry, tar, rose combination, but the purity is just superb. Statuesque and well-honed, it captures elements from the different villages of Barolo in one harmonious wine. Stunning black cherry finish with just a touch of gloss. Wonderful.

Intense and youthful nose showing lots of hip roses, minerals and white pepper. Palate with lots of tannins and cherries and with lots of woods and austerity on the finish. With a two hour decanting this went very well with dinner, but afterwards it shows more tannins and the need for lots cellaring. Best 2023-2038.

This displayed a remarkably layered and engaging bouquet for an entry-level offering. Here I found woodsy earth tones with hints of mint, opening to mineral-infused cherry and tobacco. On the palate, I found lifted textures with a fine web of crystalline tannin that gently caressed the senses, as notes of tart cherry were smoothed out by zesty acidity. It finished long and structured on tart cherry and herbs. This was a fantastic showing.

Wonderful.

Aroma: reticent floral nose.
Palate: ripe pomegranate and red currant flavors with notes of vanilla, leather and wood. Moderately tannic. Light to medium body. Approachable now but could benefit from short term cellaring.

Clear medium light red. Beautiful nose of violets, cherry, and spice. No really noticeable oak. Very nice intense flavours and a long dry finish.
A very nice wine.

Negociants Australia Portfolio Tasting 2017: From 7 vineyards in Barolo. Cherry, spice, earth and violets. Tannins take a step up here but there is also plenty of fruit. This is a wine about structure for the time being, give it time and revisit in 4-5 years.
