Drunk at the Fine Wine Experience Biondi-Santi Riserva Rarities Dinner at Otto e Mezzo in Hong Kong. More bricking than the '71 and the oxidation was also more prominent. The acid is there as always but ultimately a tired bottle I think.

Complex aromatics of fresh leather, root vegetables, cured meats, espresso and liqueur cherry. It is really even and calm in the mouth with a myriad of savoury flavours. There’s sweet, vinous notes and it is a wine of great balance and proportion. It has terrific persistence and is a cerebral wine that offers plenty of pleasure.

PRANZO DA VINOGODI: Degustato alla cieca. Non arriva all' esplosione bucolica degli aromi dell 83, qui è tutto più ovattato, morbido e in equilibrio, quasi sul frutto maturo. Tra il 70 e l' 83 c' è la differenza che passa tra il profilo sferico di un Clos St. Denis e l' orgia di fiori e sale di un Clos de la Roche. Profilo più corposo, quasi glicerico e ceroso, dai tratti autunnali di caffè amaro, sottobosco e foglie umide. Pronto da bere ora, grip polveroso e allungo da vedere.

In a vertical tasting with 1971, 1975 and 1969. The colour was deep red. Unfortunately wine was not in perfect shape. Others had a better expereince. The fruit was all gone and the nose really deteriorated quickly in the glass. Lots of savoury notes on the nose and palate. Plenty of secondary and tertiary flavours.

Acidity is there but the fruit is gone. All the signs were there to think that the wine would be intact -- color, ullage, cork. Well over the hill. Gave the bottle several hours to see if it would come around. Ended up dumping having consumed less than a glass. Not flawed just really really tired.

Lucky me! Very slight sign of oxidation. Finally got a balanced and elegant mature Santi Rsv after faulted 64 and 82. Rose, forest floor, and red berries. A little bit flat in mid-palate but compliment with a vivid acidity. A good wine without doubt but not great.

Very developed wine. Could sense some tar, morels and flowers (almost baroloic), but that was underneath the overall impression of a fading wine. It also died quite rapidly in the mouth. This was from a reportedly flawed bottle.
