  • Ganevat Mon Pere Vertical (Chambers): A touch fuller than the 2006, but still quite shy on the nose. With air, it turned a touch saltier, more expressive. Ripe pineapple, melon, quince, lots of tropical fruit.

    ABV: 12.5%
    Closure: natural cork
    Stem: Korin white stem
Decant: N/A; poped and poured and tasted over the course of ~5h
Extra info: from vines of Savagnin Vert planted in 1930, on the blue marl of the Chalasses site. Aged for 130 months a la ouille in old demi-muid and barrels after a press à l'ancienne and no racking of the must. A small amount of sulphur is added only at bottling
Vintage info from JF Ganevat: A good vintage with enough sun & enough rain. Really beautiful grapes. the first vintage where the fermentations started to take way longer, between 12 to 14 months.

  • This 2005 magnum Ganevat Les Vignes de mon Père is by far the best Savagnin/ Jura wine I have tasted. It has incredible smoothness and unparalleled complexity that I have not encountered with Savagnin. Sweet pineapple, exotic spices, and well-knitted fruity and nutty aromas. Great energy and liveliness. Flavoursome oak and lively fruits. Truly delicious and a league on its own. (93/100)

  • Nice salinity, quince, wax, white pear, green apple, white florals, balanced grass, very deep nose, very clear with a medium finish. 93

  • Seriously interesting. Still fruit. Lots of minerals. Lime. Stones. Unripe pineapple. Great acidity.

  • Manresa (Los Gatos, Ca.): Clean and extremely fresh with vibrant citrus, quince, candid pineapple...good dose of crushed minerals, slight petrol(clean), sea air salinity. Creamy texture, little wax, fresh flowers...and just a hint of that slight sherry ox you get in the Jura. Really tasty wine!

A bold and absolutely not oxidative-styled wine, likely the best cuvée of Jean François Ganevat, Jura’s mystic winemaker and enfant terrible. A lucky find at Big Wine Freaks Saint Pete, as this wine is rare now.

Yellow fruits, lemony nose, with deep, powerful, and juicy palate. It opens up and it keeps you asking for more. Umami? Maybe.

For all practical purposes, this is the best opening of the Saint Pete economic forum 2018.
