Friday Dinner at Friends' House (Pok Fu Lam, Hong Kong): Golden yellow colour. Nose is deep caramel popcorn then some vanilla then more toffee popcorn. Palate is beautifully rounded , pebble-rounded, soft and mellow like rounded stones covered in honeycomb, white chocolate and fresh banana. Moderate acidity.....actually a bit too low. Beautifully harmonious. Nicely reverberant but in all aspects this is quite muted for a Batard Montrachet. Time to drink up.

quite golden which is worrying, but no obvious premox. Big (it is Batard...) but rather steely and caramelly, but much obvious fruit and I'd say very much mature. seemed quite advanced and much mroe so than a Sauzet Combottes 04 & Leflaive Bienvenues 04 both of which were paler and far finer than this. Nie enough but disappoint for what it is or should be.

This is now the 5th bottle consumed of a 10 bottle lot purchased at a reputable auction house and the results have been mixed. 2 bottles were premox and undrinkable, 1 was heavily oxidized but interesting, 1 was pretty good, and 1 was sublime. Great aged white burg when good, but a crapshoot.

Premox... oxidized nose, sickly on the palate, oxidized in a really unattractive way.

Fat, open '04 in typical Batard styling. Full, and a bit front-heavy. Orange oil. Creamy finish. No characteristic '04 rawness. Enjoyable.

Fat and lush stone fruit aromas and flavors. Very Batard in character, more so than 2004 for me tonight.
