  • [Blind] Smells Coche-like with terrific flint and reduction. Expansive and also creamy palate, explosive lemon citrus. Sulphur and flint. Sharp. Can definitely appreciate the hype around these, this is quite brilliant.

  • Arnaud Ente Meursault Clos des Ambres in magnum is as rare as hens teeth. Incredible purity and precision in this 2014 Clos de Ambres. Lots of extract, smooth and nuanced. Refined creamy note on the finish. True to its village weight, but just as pleasurable as many Grand Crus. (93-94/100)

  • En magnum. Incredibly energetic and focused nose displaying pure white and yellow fruit, fresh lemon, lemon curd, pear, apple, honeysuckle, a hint of flint, saline, spicy spices and crushed rock. Excellent concentration, beautifully layered pure white fruit, very precise and pure, bright acidity and wet stone mineral, and a seamless long pure white fruit driven finish with strong mineral at the end. It gains weight get richer with air while still maintaining the incredible purity, energy and precision.

  • Another excellent Meursault from Ente; the nose is explosive with yellow apple, lemon, mineral, almond paste, floral notes, and a hint of spice. The palate is concentrated, but super fresh with razor sharp acidity, the intensity of flavor on the palate is killer; great depth and lingers impressively. Easily 1er cru level stuff.

  • Balanced, precise, elegant, perfectly restrained and interesting to taste. A well integrated wine. Nose of lemon, sea breeze and oak. Light, lively and un-heavy on the palate yet rich tasting -- lemon, oak, apple, minerals and a touch of cream. A long finish of precisely defined features of white burgundy. Clean. Excellent.

  • So apparently this is a new cult white Burgundy, so I had to try it despite the painful price for a lieu-dit Meursault. Despite that, I wanted to like it and maybe even become one of the worshippers. I adore the razor sharp delineation and purity. Somehow delicate with perfectly judged acidity yet not austere, a real balancing act. Lightly spiced pear and green apple. And yet, and yet - no one can make a grand cru white Burgundy or premier cru Meursault out of a lesser terroir. Minimum concentration. It resembles a good Chablis or modest Roulot. Maybe it will fill out in time but I’m not a gambler when the odds are against me.

  • 1989 Nebbiolo at Cinghiale (Cinghiale, Baltimore): '89 Nebbiolo at Cinghiale

A bird of another feather tonight. Some matchstick to start that blew off with some air. An intoxicating, beautiful nose. Purity and grace, themes that seemed to recur in my comments while drinking this wine. A little nutty, lemon curd, some subtle wood and subtle florals on the nose. Graceful and beautiful pure nose. On the palate, clean and fresh, like drinking mineral water. More lemon curd, some nuttiness, and beautiful inner mouth perfume. This is cohesive, beautifully balanced wine that seems to carry itself with a sense of effortlessness. Grace and purity, depth without heaviness. It's really mid weight at most, but has hidden power while lithe and graceful. Precise and with a jewel like transparency/precision. Mouthwatering. A wonderful wine that I wish I could drink more often. Terrific. 95

  • 1989 Piedmont Retrospective (Cinghiale, Baltimore): Off the restaurant’s list. Very precise and energetic nose displaying subtle pure white fruit, lemon, a hint of white peach, strong Coche like flint, beeswax, subtle perfume, cool mountain stream, saline and wet stone. Medium concentration, displaying exquisite balance, very finely layered subtle pure white fruit, cool and precise, bright acidity, strong mineral and a long pure white fruit and matchstick driven finish. Very pure and precise, as well as incredibly delicious. Interesting contrast to more dense and steely Valentini Trebbiano d'Abruzzo.

Sjelden bra village. Killer vin!

  • Have had this a few times recently and each time its been incredibly consistent and very very good. Matchstick, struck match, minerality, stones, lessy, lemon and citrus. All easily identifiable. Big yet restrained. Great balance. Tangy. Rich and voluptuous with good complexity. Approachable now and believe this will get better.

    Elektrisk!
    En rå Village. 94-95p

  • Same nose as Ente's Village wine, but more intense here. Much richer in the mouth too. Air increases the difference between the wines and this becomes super-citrus. This is more intense albeit not much more complex. 93-94pts

  • Incredibly fresh. Intoxicating nose. Lees and more lees. Nutty, baking spices, crisp. Good acidity. Tons of perfume leaping from the glass. Really lovely fruit - white flowers, yellow flowers, a little citrus. Just really fantastic right now.
