  • Unfortunately, my last bottle from a case bought on release. This is a fully mature Rosso that is quite delicious. Herbs and red fruit on the nose, good acidity and lighter-bodied on the palate, and a total joy to drink at this point. Hard to say how much longer the wine can maintain at this level - I had a bottle earlier this year that felt advanced, but this bottle is showing nicely.

  • I've been tracking this wine since I bought a case on release - while my experience has been very positive on the whole, I would put this wine in the "drink soon" category, as I see no further upside at this point. My previous bottle had developed a prune note on the nose that was troubling, and this bottle is much fresher. That said, at 10 years of age it no longer possesses the liveliness that earlier bottles displayed. Candied red fruits on the nose, decent acidity with a medicinal note on the palate, this is fully mature at this point.

  • Maybe on a closing window ?

temperature does not help either and no aeration prior to drinking, altogether the wine has still a great acidity and a sweet sensation of velvety tannins on the palate, it lacks energy, balance and flowery character it had the other bottles ...

Still a few in store :)

  • This was just my fourth experience with the wines of Stella di Campalto, the previous being the Brunello (2x) and Choltempo. I've loved the Brunello and found the Choltempo to be a lot of fun in a more rustic vein, so expectations were admittedly high here. I was therefore quite nonplussed to find this just sort of ripe and boring, with a watery midpalate that lacked any interesting texture. I looked for but did not find significant savory or herbal nuances. Perhaps it was not a correct bottle, but there were no obvious faults or issues with the closure.

  • I have had consistently positive experiences as I worked my way through this case, but today’s bottle is the first one that is so-so.

There is a prune note on the nose that I haven’t gotten on any previous bottles - maybe a less than effective seal by the cork?

Better on the palate, but not a great example of what this wine can be.

  • I just had glasses of the 2010 and 2011, which were both good, but this is a wine that is on another level. Expansive on the palate, with sweet/ripe red and black fruit - this really spreads out and covers every nook and cranny on your palate. Gorgeous nose as well, showing more red fruit here than on the palate. In a word, delicious!

  • Oh, wow - sheer pleasure drinking this right now. Sweet/ripe red fruits, great length on the finish - this won’t last long tonight!

  • Very nice, but not quite as good as my previous bottle. And maybe the first time I've tried this where I felt that it was no longer on the upswing. But I don't want to sound too negative here, as this is still really good, with a focused nose of candied red fruit and still taut and lively on the palate.

  • Damn, this is good - my 3rd bottle in the last two months, and if I want any of my remaining stash to last, I'm going to have to hide it in a corner somewhere.

Rosso doesn't get much better than this - lighter-bodied, pristinely focused nose of bright cherry fruit, and expansive on the palate - in a word, delicious, and a wine that goes down dangerously easy.

  • My 2nd bottle of this in a week ;^)

The nose is quintessential Sangiovese, with crisp, ripe cherry fruit.

Structured, with good acidity - still a youngster, which seems stupid to say for a seven year old Rosso, but it is what it is.

Note to self - put some of these away for another five years!

  • Also very good tonight - my wife actually prefers this to the Benedetta, but I like the Brunello better.

  • Third from a case. Delicious but still a bit young. Really good rosso which will be a point in 2022.

  • What a wine, loads of flowers, rose, summer berries, juicy, it goes the same way on the palate, refined, elegant, no alcohol at all, what a fluid and refreshing wine, even with a hot summer evening, so much grace in that bottle, really a great wine at this point, could mark it higher ... I always hesitate to go really further, but man that was enjoyable.

  • Drank it over two days. Light red color, on the nose, fragrant red berries fruits, purple flowers, modestly rubbed leather, and fresh soil, on the palate, elegant with vibrant red and purple fruits, good acidity, earthiness and grippy tannin, finish was pretty long thanks to its chewy and lingering tannin and acidity.

  • Open from the get go. Really enjoyed this. Lively, red-fruited Montalcino. Surprising amount of sediment at the end of the bottle. Drink now and over next 3-5 years.

  • Lively nose with sweet/ripe cherry fruit and menthol.

Light-bodied & focused on the palate - very nice.

  • Maybe a shade or two lighter in the glass than the '13. The nose here is not quite as focused as on the '13, and leans more toward cherry fruit, with a menthol note in the background.

Seamless on the palate, a delight to drink. Nicely structured, with decent acidity, yet still very accessible. Not sure I could pick a favorite right now, but with the extra year, this wine is a little more "welcoming" than the '13 on opening. At the end of the day, glad I have more of both ;^)

  • First from a six pack. Decanted 1hr.

Have to admit I was a bit disappointed with this. Straightforward cherry flavours with little scent or secondary tones. And the acidity is a bit odd - like sour milk. The wine had improved a bit on day two so maybe it's just a bit young or going through a dumb phase. Nowhere near the complexity and sheer enjoyment of the Salvioni rosso 2014. Maybe it'll come good in time.

  • Wow! This is the real deal right from the first pour into the decanter. Sweet red bing cherry and lush red rose notes with a tarry earthy component and mid palate spiciness. Some faint saddle leather tones towards the backside. Beautifully pure, transparent red fruit with subtle dark tones. Super elegant and long with a minor citrus note at the outset. Outstanding wine.

  • Opened at home & slow ox for 45 minutes prior to taking to venue. Alc 13.5%. Translucent bright red color. Red fruit, spice and just a trace leather on the nose. This is very classy and vineyard fresh. This drinks above its humble designation and completely faithful to the grape's signature; aromas, flavors, weight and color. More in the vein of Poggio Di Sotto and Biondi Santi then the modernist who often all but destroy sangiovese. Nothing amped here just a pure expression of sangiovese and terroir. Bing cherries, raspberries, spice & mineral. Again, like the nose, a faint hint of leather carries over to the palate. Want to taste the real thing try this producer. The texture is silky while the acidity keeps this vibrant. Beautiful! My last btl and none for sale anywhere, bummer!

  • Nose on opening: cherry, nail polish
Nose after 2 hours: cherry, vanilla, spices, tobacco. Nice.
Serving temp: seems to be more expressive when slightly cooler.
Palate: medium bodied. Medium tannin. High acidity. Good length.

Day2: (Stored in a half bottle screw cap.)
    Similar to yesterday.

Nice balanced good wine. Needs a good decant.

Obviously unfiltered since there were a few clumps of sediment left in our glasses. Loved it with Nita's homemade pizza tonight.

  • The nose showed a seductive, and truly tuscan, display of sweet cherries, raspberry, dusty spice, dried flowers, floral undergrowth and hints of new leather. On the palate, I found silky textures with perfectly balanced acidity that tugged at the senses as crunchy red fruits mixed with sweet spices and hints of light tannin to form a tactile and almost thirst quenching experience. The finish was vibrant with mineral-infused sweet cherry and lingering spice. Wow! My only regret is that I didn't buy a case.

  • My first look at the new vintage.

Light translucent ruby in the glass, with red fruits and a nice spiciness on the nose.

Nice framing acidity here, and good persistence on the finish - light-bodied, elegant, and all in pretty yummy ;^)
