Leaner style California PN showing pomegranate, cranberry with some rounder approach. Herbal notes. Good with food, and enjoyable but I can’t say I am in love with this. Good, not great.

Popped and poured. This is fantastic. Early maturity. Florals and tea on the nose. Elegant and balanced on the palate but still showing very good persistence. Red cherry, strawberry, herbs and spice. Transparent, medium bodied and adding complexity. This is in a perfect place right now and showing great promise.

This was bright ruby colored, medium bodied, smooth texture, harmonius and balanced, red berry fruits with dusty rose petal, cinnamon and earthy spices and herb tones, turning to fine-grained tannins, tangy acidity and grip on the long, complex and nicely balanced finish. https://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2023/09/bu-labor-day-family-cook-out-features.html

Great balance. An American pinot "light" that is almost like Burgundy but still has its own style. I have always had trouble figuring out when to drink these pinots. For reference, it performed less well day 2.

Nose of hearty cranberry followed immediately by forest floor. Dried leaves, earth, hints of potting soil, mushrooms… truly a Burgundian presence. Eventually showing minerality, chalky red fruit (not dissimilar from notes on RRV PN, aged Selyem). Paired with the Gramercy Tavern burger and brick-pressed chicken (underrated / best chicken dish in NYC, closely followed by le poulet cajun at Le Bilboquet). Chased with old monk dark rum (rhum), neat, of course. @Gramercy Tavern

Translucent light red colored - beautiful. Interesting perfumed nose with lots of red berries and some floral notes. On the palate fresh raspberries, strawberries, sour cherries, dried clay and nice mineral notes. Medium bodied with a medium (+) acidity. Firm tannins that give the whole wine some more substance. Medium complexity and depth. Burgundian style structure. Medium to medium long finish. I enjoy these lighter Burgundy more earthy driven Pinot Noir style but this one was missing some more complexity to get a higher rating.

As Burgundian as I’ve experienced from USA though lacking a tad in complexity. Extraordinarily light. Nose is a cohesive, complex elegant perfume of rose and unripened cherry; the star of the show. Palette shows fresh cranberry, mint. Soft but expressive acid.

There seems to be some confusion as to which bottle won in Somm 3. This is it.
Decanted/consumed over 1 hour. Subtle yet ripe aromas of strawberry and black cherry. Light-moderate flavors with bell pepper (stems), followed by red fruit, black cherry, and earth. Touch of obvious acidity. The stems are more nuanced, as compared to 2015 (where they are overbearing). Not a lot of depth showing just yet. Moderate finish. Did not show as well as previous bottles.

Domaine de la Côte New Release Tasting and Dinner Hosted by Raj Parr (Manhatta Restaurant, NYC): Served at Domaine de la Côte Dinner hosted by Raj Parr. Second of three wines served with the chicken course. Nicely suited in its restrained style (for Cali) for the food pairing. Translucent medium ruby with a very floral and mineral nose. Palate has more fruit, mostly red berries and pomegranate. Good structure and nicely layered with the florals first, then the fruit, mostly cherry on the gravelly finish. Good energy and elegance, if lacking the depth and richness of the La Côte bottling.

Decidedly Sexy bouquet, which includes taletell CA sarsparilla, along with sweet pipe tobacco, white pepper, and nuanced Umami. Fairly reminiscent of fine quality Yamhill-Carlton offerings. Fruit forward and open knit. Medium to medium plus acidity. A touch more concentration would and substance would put this over the top. While well made, highly enjoyable, and among the finest CA Pinot Noirs I have tasted, at the price point it should deliver more.

Pretty much in line with my 12/9/2018 note. Very good. However, to be super nit-picky as this really is a very, very good pinot, near the top of the heap of California pinot's IMO......in thinking about the wine more, while pairing it with a marvelous duck breast, while I very, very much appreciate the constrained nature of this pinot, it simply does not have enough mid-palate heft to match with various traditional pinot friendly foods without being overwhelmed, IMO. There is super bright fruit, which is quite tasty, but so 'fruity' that even it does not match well, it would be nice to have some non-fruit components be a bit more forward (maybe in time?); but then, using the duck as an example, while it went well together, I do feel like the fattiness of the duck (and it was a very well made duck breast) was too much for this pinot. Anyway, again a nit-pic, albeit an important one IMO. None-the-less, bravo to the wine and the style they are shooting for.

This is a fantastic PN. The acidity and tannins tease you into thinking there’s more alcohol, but it’s only 12.5%. It’s some whole stem/maceration magic, with crunchy, salty, floral elements - and comes together like a Shakespeare plot. It’s also beautiful in the glass with a garnet for the ages. We decanted, and it kept surprising with layers that continued to impress. The bouquet evolved too and expressed poetically. Sad only to have 11 more, but ecstatic there’s more.

Glad I haven't seen somm iii yet, my expectations haven't been tainted.
Pop and pour, it's a nose of forest floor, raspberry. Initially a bit flat. Perhaps some sweetness? Salinity and umami are present. The fruits are more forward on the palette. But the finish was long and a bit minty. Initially the acid was on prominent and the tannins were fairly mute.
We kept the bottle chilled, and over the next hour or so, so it oxidated in the bottle...
As it opened up fruits started to show more. And finally the tannins arrived. Silky and balanced. I kinda wish I'd decanted it... But definitely an enjoyable journey.

This pretty but wispy wine is too thin to be that impressive, at least to me. The color provides a clear preview: light red, almost clear, with a look of water that has a drop of red food coloring; I've never seen a red wine this transparent, almost approaching a rose. The nose, however, is intriguing: dried strawberry, potpourri, and sour cherry waft up in the glass.
As ACYSO's observed, though, this wine falls apart when you drink it (never a good sign for a beverage!). The flavors are straightforward: under-ripe raspberry, rhubarb, and cloves, with a tart and acidic finish. 12.5% alcohol. I'm sure I could try harder to find complexity, but it just seemed too simple for me. I've enjoyed lighter CA Pinots (e.g., Tyler, Littorai) in the past - and have really liked Raj Parr's Evening Land wines in Oregon - but this was a waify disappointment. Drink in next few years.

Judgement of Paris II Pinot Noir Tasting: pale ruby • unfortunately this bottled was corked • the structure suggests more of an Old World style, only 12.5% ABV • product of sommelier Raj Parr and winemaker Sashi Moorman
Dinner at S.K.Y. (Chicago, IL): Made in an intensely glou-glou style, this has some nice red fruit and perfumed elements, and there's definitely something very alluring here on the nose. But for me, the palate is where this falls flat. It's too thin. Lots of acidity and some perfumed sweetness from the red fruit, but the body is lacking and emaciated. Some bitterness on the finish as well. Sure, this might be fine chilled on the porch in the summer, but for what it costs, it needs to be better.
Very lite red with a hint of brown dulling. Lite Christmas spices on the nose. Sweet and sour red berries including raspberry, pomegranate, and sour cherries. Good minerality; pleasant.

Since I finally watched SommIII, I thought what the hell, take one for the team. At wonderful 12.5% for those, like I am quickly becoming, who at 15% fall asleep after a glass or two. A hugely exuberant nose. Almost so exuberant, I wondered how such was manufactured (what a loaded word, I know). Super clean on the palate. Not a flaw I can bitch about outside of, what I attribute to youth only, was it was sort of monolithic. Lots of fresh fruit flavors (in a light/med body), very good acidity, etc. Just needs to move on from baby stage to get some personality beyond being cute. This baby will not become president one day, but is likely to become cabinet level one day if it avoids incorrect behavior in its childhood which comes back to haunt it. We'll see. Have a bunch more, so will check on it reasonably frequently.

Coravin into decanter and consumed over 1 hour. Slowly opened up, but still young. It should be outstanding in 5-10 years, with a long life. Slightly muted nose of bright red fruit. Palate of red fruits and some perfume. Short finish (due to age). Good acidity. 92-95. Fresher than the 2015.

100% whole clusters. Pure fruit notes from raspberries and strawberries combined with some cherries on the nose. On the palate we also get orange peel and some fresh spices combined with a juicy lime acidity. I also find some earthy notes and smoke, especially in the finish. This Pinot Noir both has some energy and depth in a good balance.

Light and transparent look. High quality red berries such as raspberries, cherries and perfectly matured plums. Herbs, rhubarb and white chocolate. Deep nose with great balance and complexity already. The palate feels younger than the nose, more resistance and the stems take on a larger role, in a positive sense imo. Youthful orange-like acidity, fine elegant tannins. Long aftertaste. Drinks surprisingly well already, for example I found the '11 Bloom's Field far less approachable a couple of years ago. That being said, of course far from it's maximum potential. Recommended.

Pale ruby colour. The nose shows pronounced intensity aromas of vanilla, cinnamon, cedar, ripe red plums, dark cherries and crushed black pepper.
It is dry with a high firm acidity. It has medium- soft tannins and a medium alcohol. It has a medium body and pronounced intensity flavours. The finish is long.
It is an outstanding quality wine. The finish is very persistent and its generous fruit concentration is in balance with the fresh acidity. It also shows complexity provided by oak ageing.

PnP at Bay Grape. 10min decant and the wine was singing. Typical DDLC with fruit for ageas a complexity and refinement that is hardly found in california pinot making. Kudos!

Not really my style for Pinots.... light and sweet with none of the deep and concentrated flavors of the big CA pinots; Burgundy lovers might like this more than me. Downgraded a bit based on the second night.

Riper and more modernly styled than the previous vintage. Well built indeed, though difficult to get excited about for the price.
