Beautiful, clean juicy red black and blue fruits cloaked in oak. What makes this Bordeaux blend Italian? No green notes, and a refreshing zip of acid. Long finish emphasizes fruit and lush texture instead of vanillan oak.

Nice presentation of clean berry fruit in front transitioning to a long astringent finish. Nothing out of place. It feels good in the mouth. The acid and remaining tannin will keep it going for a while, but it’s in a good place now.

Perfect ruby color, long legs. After one hour decant the nose let out dark cherries, blackcurrants, olives, tobacco leaves, menthol. Great balance in the mid palate: fresh yet full with dark fruits, tobacco notes - this is still young with good potential to evolve - grainy tannins, long finish with aromatic wood and hints of licorice. The wine showed beautifully tonight - well balanced, deep in flavor, satisfying. While acidity is there to match the not too strong tannins, there is some mild weakness/flabbiness in the palate which is the only detriment to what otherwise is a very well made wine.

This blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot has a lovely, perfumed, highly aromatic nose of currant, cassis, red & black fruits, with savoury, wet earth, forest floor undertones. It’s medium-full bodied with smooth, refined tannins that have some structure and is still a bit tight. Nicely balanced aroma replays with elegance on the palate. Balanced acids. Long, dark berry, currant, and earthy finish.
Very disjointed, alcohol to the fore and unresolvedly tannic. Quite a surprise. Flavour profile is great, cherries, dark fruits and some oak, but for me not so pleasant to drink at this stage. Could be bottle variation as I have enjoyed previous bottles.

Wet pine forest and dark fruit on nose. Palate of cherry, plumb, cranberry, and pine notes. Dark color but medium body. Smooth and balanced. Enjoyed with burgers and side dish of pasta with marinara sauce. Paired well with hard cheese plate afterwards.

This seems to have improved a little more in the past year. It has complexity and layers of taste that make it work so well with food or drinking by itself. I just finished the last bottle I had bought at $25 per bottle. At that price it was one of the best wine deals available. I think it sells for close to twice that now.

Figured I'd end this annus horribilis with my first San Guido experience. Got out this '15 Guidalberto (60% CS, 40% Merlot) and aired it for 3,5h. Upon initial pop 'n pour I would've sworn there's sangiovese in the blend, with ripe and juicy cherry, higher acidity.
After aeration this opened up nicely, juicy red fruit, red berry, cassis, clove, hints of vanilla along with finely structured tannins. Full-bodied, velvety mouthfeel. Very balanced overall. Finish is def. more than OK in length.
Also I get a touch of cocoa. This is a young and potent wine, like a boisterous teenager. Perhaps still a bit too young because I detect some green bell pepper in the finish. I don't know whether this is really a steal QPR wise @ 35-40 EUR but it's certainly interesting!

blackberries and blueberries. leather and spice. concentrated fruit. on the back end smooth and elegant. Cab Sav predominance is very clear here.
little brother of the sass. different blend altogether so you cant directly compare or expect it to be similar. this is a different kind of wine. nothing great though. there are much better tuscan 2015s at this price point
Certainly a nice wine but I am still thinking that San Guido is neglecting its second wine. They should take care of their label. It’s a matter of expectations, perhaps. Not convinced yet. I’ll stick to Sassicaia for special nights and open the Guidalberto for casual dinner, pizza and mozzarella.

Red cherries, currants, plums and menthol. Fruit aren't very lush, acidity is present and in balance but oak sticks out at this young age. Decent, but not amazing. Unfortunately, I was expecting better, given the great vintage and the producer profile.

On the pop and pour this was a bit disjointed and really not all that interesting. After several hours of air, the wine began to show better with bright red fruits over dark fruits with some soft tobacco notes and earth. Soft tannins with a good spine of acidity. Cork back in the neck and revisited a few days later. The remainder on Day 3 was still quite good and more open, but nothing particularly extraordinary. Having never had Sassicaia, I cannot compare but even at its relatively modest price, I can’t say that this version of Guidalberto represents a good QPR...not that it really matters to some. Maybe I’m being a touch harsh. It’s a fine enough wine made in a style that I can absolutely appreciate (not overdone); I guess I was just wanting more than it could give. Perhaps the problem is me.

Deep purple and ruby from an excellent vintage. Big whiffs of blackberry and black pepper with hints of vanilla. It almost had a cedar note to it. Medium to full bodied showing with silky smooth tannins. Flat from an acidity perspective and short in its finish. Smooth and enjoyable, but wasn’t our favourite Guidalberto. 2016 is a bit more interesting today.

Day 1: Pop and pour. Iodine, leather, floral, dust and lighter red currants. Short to medium finish. This wine lacks concentration and is quite watery. Might be young and score withheld on day 1. Day 2: Time has not improved this wine much. Roasted chestnuts, light red currants, mushrooms, floral and dust. Very short, uninspiring finish. Not impressed on this wine. 85 points Day 3: Opening up a bit but still lacks complexity. Picks up some stone and wood character. A bit better than day 2. 87 points Recommendation: After trying this over 3 days an easy pass for me. Just really a boring, non eventful wine.

Pretty wine. PnP. Well balanced wine, with the acidity expected of an Italian wine. Red cherry, spice, leather & some earthiness. There is an elegance here. Very early in its life cycle, however it is drinking very well now. I would expect this wine to improve as the different elements continue to integrate. Versatile, this wine paired very well with filets, duck and (surprisingly) seared scallops.

A very elegant slightly pyrozinic blend showing lots of sous bois, flowers, loam, cassis and spice. This isn't a particularly big wine, it's elegant, refined and complex lacking just a tad bit of ripeness and power to qualify as truly amazing. Medium bodied yet well structured with a medium plus finish, the wine constitutes a drinking pleasure right away and for years to come.
Decanted for 20 minutes and then consumed over 2 hours. Dark red with dark purplish rim. 13% abv.
Nose of blue berry, little bit of spice, alight vanilla in quite a good balance, not very intense.
Palate is medium with darkish fruits, a little herbaceous.
Finish is short.
This bottle came alive at around the 2.5 hour mark with rigorous swirling, where I was able to witness its lively soul. Pretty interesting.
I suspect this bottle is a little off. The cork shows a bit of seepage, and the top of the cork is moldy. Perhaps I'll have better luck with my next one. I plan to decant for at least 2 hours ony next bottle if I'm consuming it within the next couple of weeks.

Plum, cherry and floral notes on the nose. Medium bodied and a blend of 60% cabernet and 40% merlot (13% ABV) with soft, round plum and black cherry upfront. There's touch of brighter blackberry behind that and the wine does gain some balance and structure behind as the tannins provide support. Finishes with spices, minerals and some structural tannin notes. Should open up and integrates as it ages, but I'm not sure the complexity will ever be there to justify the time invested.
