Needs some time to open up. Well made Medoc from Ricardo Cotarella of untypical 70 % Merlot. Dark red with brown edges. Nose of leather, mushrooms and tobacco with fruit lacking a bit this time. Maybe bottle variation, maybe beginning to decline. On the palate secondary to tertiary aromas of some dark red fruits with forest floor and leather. Medium finish, Time to drink up i think.

Ruby with only a little orange brigthning. First nose of concentrated heated bacon fat and game, leather, ponyskin, floating into tobacco, cedar and minerals, with swirling getting just hints of currants, flowers and mulberry. This is developing very fast over the last 2 or 3 years. I can't believe that it will develope in a positive way. But great right now with its tertiary flavorings and sheer intensity. Drink it up! -2017

My last bottle of that vintage. Still on a good level. Some mineral notes, dark fruits and nuance of tobacco. Concentration and balance is still given, missing more complexity and pressure. Also the finish is a bit short. If You like aged BDX you maybe can wait a few more years. Otherwise drink now!

Recht dunkles Rot, ohne Alterserscheinungen.

deep Purple Red with faint brown edge. Seductive and vibrant berry nose with subdued oak behind, very fresh for its age. Palate harmonious with very good weight of fruit, perhaps reflecting the vintage. However this is no overripe fruit-bomb, the balance with very fine tannins is superb and the finish is long, lingering and classic. Pity this is my last. despite being at its peak it could be enjoyed for many years.

inky dark without maturity edge, draws beautiful streaks in the glass. On the nose, cassis, plum, red cherries, dark berries, dark chocolate, some tar and liquorice, ripe Cabernet in the background, broken stones Juicy on the palate, with good fruit sweetness, light acidity, elegant beautiful structure, silky creamy tannins, medium body, yet dense material, depth and finesse alike, dark berries and cherries, tar, some herbs - and spice aromas, cassis, again plums and chocolate . Long sweet finish, dark berries, chocolate and spice.

This has great potential. The alc. was showing at the high end of it's marked 13.5%. Cali cab lovers should use this as a great bridge option between new world/old world. As I was decanting, the blackberry was so intense, I could easily smell it wafting up from my 2 1/2 foot vantage point. Blackberry, vanilla, mushroom and cedar on the nose and creme de cassis, blackberry, fresh white mushroom, cedar and dry leaves on the palate. Do not pair with savory meatloaf - probably the biggest issues in the worchestershire and/or horseradish. Steak all the way here. All in all, very good, but still seems infantile. Will drink next one in 5 years.

Spicy nose, with bay leaf and nutmeg on faint raspberry aromas. In the mouth, good fresh attack of raspberry cordial, then crème brûlée, before a persistent finale of currants and raspberries. The fruit is slightly burnt, but this is far, far better than during its youth, when it tasted like a bad port. Not a typical Bordeaux, nor a typical Rollan, but very enjoyable. The wine has a well-rounded feel that is surprisingly satisfying in the context of the vintage.

Dark ruby; on the nose there's blackcurrant, black cherry, tobacco, cedar, and hints of mint and barnyard. Medium bodied, medium+ acidity, and soft tannins. Red cherry, blackcurrant, and earthy notes on the palate. I suspect this is peaking, so glad we opened this up.

In the glass, the wine is dark garnet with clearing starting to form around the rim and fine sediment, presenting early signs of age. There's a distinct earthiness about the wine with notes of oak, perfume, barnyard and forest floor on the nose matched by black currants, near-sweet berries, earth and a hint of dark chocolate on the palate. The body is full with lush tannins that still have a tight grip, bright acidity, a dirty texture (caused by fine sediment...I love it!), and a long finish filled with lemon zest. This wine is well balanced and has the structure to last, so even though there are signs of age it should drink well for the next two years. It took a while for the wine to open and for its tannins to mellow, so I recommend letting this one spend 30 minutes in the decanter before drinking. A votre sante!

Had three bottles from my cellar over the last week (bought last year right at the chateau). While I gave it 90p a year ago, this wine is definately past its prime now. One bottle was almost overaged, the others were still ok, but it has lost some of its fruit and life. Don't count on these to become any better.

Currant, some tobacco and graphite. Palate is pretty dense and starts of with sweet, rich red fruit but shifts to a more graphite and smoke driven mid-palate. Can see this being a very enjoyable weeknight wine.

Tasted at the 'Double Helix' in the Venetian with fellow wine connoisseur/drinking buddy who coincidently happened to be in Vegas at the same time. On the nose you know exactly where you are. Here we have the hallmark bordeaux funk on the nose laced with ripe cassis. On the palate seamless from front to back. moderate acidity, meaty undertones, dark cherries and the semi-sweet cassis tranistions to pencil lead notes. A lingering finish leaves you wanting more. Coming from a hot vintage, signs of heat are nonexistent. The merlot absolutely steals center stage here. An amazingly smooth wine, flawlessly executed, ready now for consumption This is serious bordeaux. Similar quality to high classified cru wines at half the price.

In a great place at the moment; classic profile of juicy berry fruit, tobacco, leather and cedar along with a bit of earthy country funk; extremely well balanced with resolved tannins and surprisingly buoyant acidity (especially for a 2003). No need to wait any longer, can't imagine this getting much better. Enjoyed this very much, a lot of bordeaux for the money.

Purchased this week for 15.10 € (slightly below 20$) at Leclerc supermarché in Lesparre/Médoc, close to the château itself; decanted; very dark ruby; intense, dark-fruited nose with hints of cedar, big legs; overwhelming dark fruit (cassis, blueberry) on the palate, substantial dry but nicely integrated tannins, good finish, lingering tannins; very inviting wine showing great Bordeaux' characteristics, a must-buy at this price point

Initial opening yesterday and wine had too much funk/barnyard to the point that it masked the fruit, etc. Day two the wine is fabulous. Still had the classic Bordeaux earthiness and some funk but minimal. Dark fruit, cassis and chocolate with a hint of alcohol on the nose. Dark purple in color with big legs. Nice medium to full body on the tongue with smooth tannins and moderate spice on the tip of the tongue with some acidity at the finish. Somewhat lost the big fruit characteristic to smooth blackberries and currants. For 14.00 a great buy. Reviewed as a first growth quality wine and it is very close to that.

Not as impressed as others have been. Balance seemed precarious on first night, with things barely holding together. Dark fruits, earth, decent nose. Palate also decent; an OK food wine. Much weaker on day two, which I find to be a characteristic of highly manipulated wines. Can't see this being much of an ager. Better values out there.

Deep, dark ruby in color. Effusive and complex nose of dense blackberry fruit, mocha, smoke, cedar and incense spices. Palate has plush and abundant ripe blackberry fruit, minerals, herbs, floral and tar notes. Very round with soft tannin and complexity of flavors. Finish is medium length with moderate intensity. Late Oct 2009: deep crimson color; intense plum, wood vanilla aromas/flavors accompanied by weak chocolate and coffee impressions; on the palate slightly better; lots of alcohol; full body; strong tannins.

A very concentrated strong wine - gobs of fruit and tannin and a little hot - mellows out over an hour. In balance. Good stuff.

Shows similar if a little less lush and complex than my last bottle. Closing down a bit?

Great QPR! (4+13+16+7=90).

Purplish red color with full body. Ripe fruits, autumn leaves, and floral aromas with chocolate, blackberry, black cherry, and pepper flavors. Long finish. Very good by itself and with food.
