Notes of tobacco, black plum, and spice. A bit dry on the finish and without much of the raisin notes I expect of an Amarone. Definitely benefits from air.

A great pleasure. Decanted in an Italian restaurant with pasta. Dark color. Rich and intense nose. Complex and fruity on the palate. Plum and dark cherries, vanilla, tobacco and coffee. Long and silky finish. Harmonious and round.

Young looking cork. Very deep mulberry in colour with a pomegranate rim. Rich aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, sandlewood, mascerated plums, beechnut and some prickly alcoholic vapours on a deep inhale. Full, rich and luscious on the palate. Super smooth with everything integrated and nicely balanced. The palate is enveloped by lashings of rich dark red fruit, red plum skins, cherrywood, tar, clayey minerals and a warming, tingly tannic finish that is very long. Quite the voluptuous wine! Not really any dried fruit aromas or flavours yet. The only detractor is the slightly elevated woodiness at this point, but I feel like there is still ample fruit to absorb it. This still has many many years of life ahead of it!

Pitch black nearly right to the rim which is deep plummy purple. Deep, dark and mysterious nose of concentrated boysenberry, plum, black cherry, roasted chestnuts, bittersweet chocolate and hazelnuts. Full bodied and round in the mouth with huge fruit extract and lots of sandy tannins. Huge flavours of blue plum, blackberries, espresso, bitter chocolate, spicy oak and sweet black licorice. Long, spicy, spirited finish. Decadent!

Dried cherry, tobacco, and sweet raisin on the nose. Nice acidity with blackberry, leather, plum, and a hint of cherry cough syrup on the palate. The alcohol remained balanced even as this warmed up. The tannins were ripe and so smooth. Primary flavours still dominate. Everything was so well balanced—this drinks well now but will age a while. I couldn't drink this every day but some nights just call for Amarone.

Dark maroon at the rim with a pitch black core. Initially it has rather a subdued nore for a Serego. With air comes a pungent nose of brambly black and purple berry fruits. Underlying tones of cocoa powder, leather, plum, shoe polish and some heat from the alcohol. Full bodied and highly extracted. Spirited fruit palate. Lots of tannins. Huge structure. Lush mouthfeel and a long warming finish. Lastly comes that bit of telltale Italian astringency on the tongue. A little high in alcohol but very tasty.

2nd tasting of this Masi Amarone 2011 Better depth this time Dark cherry, raspberry, figs and plum in the primary aromas. Some tobacco too. Med+ body, fruit driven attack, mid+ body and alcohol, acidity medium. Ok balance, semi long finish, still lacking complexity and tertiary aromas. Enjoyable for sure but too young to show tertiary notes as of yet, and I fear that further aging will result in deteriorated balance with acidity being underpowered.

Wonderful Amarone. As expected a bit fo alcohol bite, at 15.5% it's hard to hide. Bright acidity but not strong. raspberry as well as stone fruit. Should have paired with some strong cheese, but it paired stunning well with a meat/cheese board that included some sweet chicken sausage...who would have thought?

Pitch black with a dried cranberry red rim. Dried cherry and cranberry on the nose with some raspberry as well. Also a hint of brown sugar, baking spices, leather and later on camphor. Very smooth. Full bodied. Ripe and round and full on the palate. Gobs of black and red fruit extract and some cedar notes. Tongue staining richness. Huge fruit flavour. Decadence in a glass. This is heady stuff indeed. Super long, smooth finish. No tannins or alcoholic heat. Amazing!

Wine Spectator newbies; 10/18/2018-10/20/2018 (Marriott Marquis): What a wonderful interesting wine. Not made in every year but instead looking for those optimal conditions. After the standard oak barrel it's finished in cherry. Leads to an intense and fruity wine that has a certain depth and character to it. Interesting. Led to us to an interest in making a visit here when we are in the area in November.

A blend of Corvina (65%), Rondinella (20%) and a special clone of Molinara (15%) found in the vineyards of Serègo Alighieri. Aged in cherry wood casks. 15,5% alcoho, 5 g/l residual sugar, 5,5 g/l acidity.
Quite deep, concentrated and rather slightly translucent cherry red color with a noticeable mahogany hue and a very thin blood-red rim. A rich, complex and quite unctuous nose with very pronounced Sun-Maid raisin character and intense aromas of very ripe dark fruits, some alcohol, a little bit of lifted, sweet VA character and a subtle hint of green almond. The wine feels very full-bodied and concentrated on the palate with robust, yet nout unctuous nor overdone mouthfeel. There are flavors of very ripe dark plums and even some prunes, raisins, dried figs, some peppery spice, a little bit of dried cherry and a powerful streak of amaro bitterness. The residual sugar lends subtle sweetness to the flavors, but otherwise the wine feels very savory and quite structured with its moderately high acidity and rather firm and grippy tannins. The finish is very long and powerful with some alcohol warmth and intense flavors of sour cherry bitterness and amaro character, peppery spice, some fresh dark forest berries, a little bit of pruney dark fruit and a hint of raisin.
A very stylish, concentrated yet not over-extracted and complex Cru Amarone with a lot of raisiny character, yet enough other other fruit notes and more savory spices so the wine doesn't come across as soupy raisin mess. The wine manages to walk quite impressively that fine line where the wine feels obviously big, concentrated and high in alcohol, yet still not overtly extracted, overdone or otherwise too monolithic - it manages to retain surprisingly much finesse to its brooding, muscular frame. An impressive effort that is drinking beautifully right now, but might benefit from further cellaring. Will keep for a long time. Not the cheapest wine out there at 53,90€, but pretty much delivers for the price.

Tasted at a Kobrand event in NYC. This is dark garnet with low tannin and high acid. On the nose and palate I got chocolate covered cherry along with some dried cranberry and raisin. Nice but not exceptional.

Dark garnet colour. Raisined red and black berries, leather and spice nose. Full bodied with good flavour replays, but not as high extract as some Amarone; you can pair this one with dinner (wild mushroom risotto with truffle oil drizzle?). 4/5

A great vintage for Vaio. Rich, long and powerful as per usual with this brawny old-style elegant beast but this is stuffed a bit more than usual. When young I find that this wine shows its cherry cask aging and this is quite obvious - there are darker savoury tones mixed with dried fruit but also a red cherry and musky floral quality that I found beguiling. Builds on the back end and finishes with a neat mix of sweet and dry. Like many 2011s the structure is more firm than say the 2009s. Should be a long distance runner.
