Beautiful red colour, surprisingly light for a Languedoc wine. Beautiful, clean and fruit-driven nose typically reminding one of ripe Cabernet Sauvignon. Classical profile and very pleasant. The palate is good but a slight sweetness is discernible and the mid-palate appears a bit thinner than what could be expected. Very easy to drink nonetheless and the structure of the wine is finely wound together. Very good and can probably a wait a couple of years but not sure this will evolve significantly.

Dark red color with mature and warm center; on the nose at first a touch of cork taint which then dissipates. On the palate the wine was a tad austere: the tannins have eaten up the fruit and the wine showed tertiary notes. Fine and correct, but not beguiling or fascinating.

Pristine bottle, beautiful ruby red in colour. Good ringer for a Bordeaux with classic notes of tobacco and forest floor character. Lacked the oomph of the Trevallon but still the best MDG that I've had, more old school than the rather polished 2006 a couple weeks back.

Dark red color, still opaque in the center and scarcely lightening at the rim. On the nose complex and beguiling medley of smells: damp forest floor, mushrooms, leather dust, graphite and some cedar. quite intense and enthralling. On the palate: a fine coating of dusty tannins; wine seems to be drying out a bit. The bouquet is definitively more enticing than the taste. Still: the wine went well with the roast goose, bread dumplings and cabbage. On the whole I would say: drink upon over the next 5 years.

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (68%), Syrah (8%), Cabernet Franc (7%), Merlot (6,5%), Malbec (6%), Pinot Noir (2%), Tannat (1,5%) and the remaining 1% rounded out by a blend of Barbera, Dolcetto and Nebbiolo from Italy. Fermented and macerated for 20 days in stainless steel tanks, aged for 12-15 months in oak barrels ranging from new to 7 years old. 12,9% alcohol, 5,1 g/l acidity and pH 3,53. Total production 70,000 bottles and 3,000 magnums. Decanted for 2,5 hours, tasted in a Mas de Daumas Gassac 2017-1989 vertical.
Developed and quite dark rusty red color with a pale maroon rim. Developed and slightly sweet-toned nose with aromas of wizened blackcurrants, some beef jerky, light notes of dried figs, a little bit of pungent smoky character and a perfumed hint of dried flowers. The wine is dry, medium-to-moderately full-bodied and quite crunchy on the palate with intense flavors of tart cranberries, lingonberries and red plums, some ferrous notes of blood, a little bit of sour cherry bitterness, light redcurrant tones, a hint of campfire smoke and a touch of old, dry leather. The overall feel is quite lean for a Mas de Daumas Gassac, but there's enough stuffing here to keep the wine quite fleshy. Impressive structure with the high acidity and still rather assertive tannins. The long finish is dry, crunchy and quite tannic with intense and rather tertiary flavors of cranberries, sour cherry bitterness, some redcurrants, a little bit of leathery funk, light stony mineral tones, a sanguine hint of iron and a slightly oxidative touch of beef jerky.
A wonderfully firm and complex vintage of MdDG at its peak. The structure here is still surprisingly tightly-knit, but I doubt it will resolve before the fruit fades away. All in all this is a wonderfully tertiary and harmonious effort that still retains quite a bit of fruit and a good deal of fresh, crunchy fruit to keep the wine wonderfully focused and alive. Drinks beautifully now, but will continue to perform well for many more years. Terrific value at 28€ (22 years ago, though). Highly recommended.

Perfectly aged bottle, seemed much younger on opening and was hiding its 22 years at first. Needed two hours to open up, but then it was a real beauty. Soft and powerful at the same time, well balanced, red fruit, fine tannins. Impressive wine.

Tasted alongside the 1996 Chateau Montus, Cuvee Prestige. Both wines double decanted so they would be ready for Maryann's birthday party .. Both wines have a mature and warm Bordeaux red color, slightly lighter than when tasted last time. No visible signs of aging, except for the color becoming warmer and a bit lighter.. This one has a nose of leather, touch of cedar, fine-grained tannins and dark fruit. Quite enticing! Lovely mouthfeel! and quite elegant. Tannin and fruit are in perfect balance and harmony. There is a slight feel of dusty tannins at the end. Wonderful finish; this wine is in a great spot. It again confirms my theory that these wines need at least 15 years to mature and show their best. I now regret stopping to buy them with the 1995 vintage when I was losing patience with their development. Seen what crazy prices are being asked today for even just decent reds, those wines were a steal!
PS: At the party there were mostly modern style wines: Jammy fruit bombs, especially some Amarones ... I felt like having thrown my pearls before swine..

Casual Session (Chassagne & Bordeaux) (B&B Parkway): Poured into decanter and drank over 2 hours. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, garnet colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of sweet earth, cinnamon spice, blackberries, black cherries, dried blackcurrant, leather and hints of meaty animal. Developed. On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium alcohol (12.9%), fine integrated high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of blackberries, black cherries, dried blackcurrant, earth, cinnamon spice, leather and bits of meaty animal. Some herbaceousness with more air. Long finish. Very good quality. It really is quite Bordeaux-like at heart, with some other interesting stuff thrown in. Drink and enjoy now. It does feel like it could last another 5+ years well, if the cork holds up. Unfortunately, the cork on my bottle crumbled. Blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% mix of various varietals: Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Tannat, Pinot Noir, Nebbiolo, Grenache, Tempranillo, Voskehat (Armenia), Kontorni (Armenia), Salte (Syris) and some Georgian varieties. Day 2 tasting: Herbaceousness receded. Now chocolate, dark red cherries, spice, umami, soy sauce, earth. Still long finish. Holding up very well.

A weekend in East Sussex (UK): Cool and dry, very mineral and firm in a very grown up, almost aristocratic style - no country-wine here, expect for a hint of the sauvage notes at the end. Hitting the spot right now in term of maturity IMHO. And yes, this could have been a Bordeaux-wine, almost.

Weekly tasting group #132; Mas de Daumas red 9 vintages plus some extra's. (@ DJ): At first barnyard which blows off quite quickly. Black and red fruits as well as sweet spices in the bouquet. On the palate mouth filling with sweet spices, red and dark berry fruits, cinnamon, some sweetness well balanced by good acidity. Mild acidity and soft tannin which is a bit drying. In a perfect drinking stage now, but no hurry.

Decanted 3 hours. Very nice nose, complex and very Bordeaux'ish perhaps with less sandal wood, and more sweet notes. Same goes for the palate. You can detact that the Cab has grown in a warmer climate, which suits the cold and stringent vintage of 1995. Very nice, and better than expected.

Decanted for about 30 mins. Needed a bit more time in the decanter, but then it began to sing, wonderful cassis on the nose, with some barnyard, just beautiful fruit. The palate was initially a bit hard, but with some air it also became fuller and more tasty. Lots of tannins still. A most excellent wine, and at 18, it has reached its peak. This is super good now.

Monthly Tasting Group HWS #068; Mas de Daumas: Vertical of 6 vintages white and 13 vintages red. (By DJ): The bouquet is a bit earthy and dusty and still quite youthful. On the palate a rustic wine with leather, tobacco and a lot of firm tannin. Not a 100% sure, but it could be that this wine is in a closed phase now. This tastes much better than 2 years ago. The wine is much more integrated. It still needs some time to open up. Nose is a bit farmyard, animal like with not much fruit. Taste is black fruit, mushroom and plum with spicy tones. Very good length. The alcohol which can be obtrusive in Southern France wines has integrated very well.
