Typical Ridge. Lots of clean, upfront spicy/berry Zin fruit accented by American oak. A crowd pleaser at our Christmas dinner. 22% Carignane adds color and tempers the fruit.

Deep dark center, red rim with some signs of age. Sweet, blackberry, black olives, pine, plums, resin. Smooth, classic zinfandel, damsons, a little chocolate, sweetish, great combination of red fruit and oak, good length. Excellent Ridge Zin, drinking very well now.

With our traditional homemade pizza (hot Italian sausage version). Ruby, not quite opaque, still good color to the rim. This bottle stayed remarkably consistent with the 6/9/17 bottle, perhaps a touch of sediment on the side of the bottle. An excellent wine.

After dinner wine that i found in cellar. Medium to light weight zin that is drinking very well (drink up and also per PD notes on the label). Great fruit, good zin spice, just yummy wine with decent finish. It works!

Tasting experience was consistent with my prior note. Very nicely balanced wine and clearly a lot of care went into its production. This bottle was more pleasing than the last one, lending credence to my hypothesis that the first one was travel-shocked.

Wine was delivered about 10 days ago from Ridge. Hopefully the bottle shock has passed. I really wanted to try this wine though so here we go!
Deep crimson wine with touch of bricking at edges. Looks sound.
TWO HOURS LATER:
I’m not going to officially rate this wine because I think it might be bottle shocked. I get a generic red fruit on the nose and a nicely balanced palate, but not much beyond that. Of course, I may be misattributing a lack of complexity to bottle issues rather than just a simple wine, but Ridge is so good and my historical experiences with them have been so pleasurable that I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.
Of course, if I’m wrong and this is just a simple wine, then I’d say this is a bbq special - quaffable, friendly, and would NOT benefit from additional age.

Strong sense of baked fruits. Mouth filling tannin. There is a tartness that sticks out a bit on the finish. A touch of oak in the background. I kept thinking about Pinots and Syrah from the Central Coast back around 2003 and 2004. This has the sense that the ripeness got away from the team a bit. They tried to combat it with water and tartaric acids. It doesn't work completely here leaving this somewhat undone and without much varietal character. Difficult to enjoy. Consistent over two nights.

With homemade Friday night sourdough pizza (Italian sausage, sweet peppers, caramelized onions). 78% Zin, 22% Carignane. Nice ruby, lots of life, no longer opaque. Nose: raspberry, blackberry, what Zin should be. Palate: dry, good acid, moderate tannin, brambly fruit coming through. Paired with the pizza beautifully.

Black cherry and a bit of toast on the nose. Cherry and cranberry taste. Delicious now. Lingering finish with a bit of pepper. Quite elegant, gives an experience I think is hard to find at this price point.

Tasted over two days. First day was a bit disjointed...a bit too acidic and bitter on the finish.
Day two was a big change for the better. Lovely nose of mixed fruits, plums, raspberries. Good acidity to balance everything, and almost a juiciness to the taste. Really liking this.

Everything I love about their zins. Rich, layered, balanced with lovely red and black fruit framed by a finely grained tannin structure and dense, mouth-coating palate. Nice accents of pepper, earth, toast, smoke and spice.

Winter in Wineland; 1/14/2017-1/20/2017 (Sonoma & Napa): From vines that have been around for about 50 years. Blend between Carignane (22%) and Zinfandel. Hints of red fruit. Lots of tartness, a bit of a woodsy nature to it. I enjoyed it.

At the Santa Cruz mountains winery. White pepper and spice on the nose, red fruit, blackberry, earth and acid. A weird finish and not fully integrated.

Enjoyed at the winery. Excellent QPR at $30. Alcohol was noticeably lower than your typical Zin even right after opening. Definitely could benefit from a few years in the cellar but approachable now.

Good, but some slightly dirty wood in the background. Seems like there might be some bottle variation in this wine.

Noticeable dirty wood flavors (bad cork maybe). Either way not a great bottle.
