A huge wine that still has everything strung up tight. I decanted for an hour, and it had barely loosened up. Black cherry, dark plum, dark chocolate, smoke are some of the flavors. It is big throughout and the finish has a medium weight tannin which is very dry with a sweet edge.

A massive, heavily extracted wine. Not quite my “cup of tea”, so to speak.
Deep ruby/purple color. Minimal fading around the edge, even after 9 years. Medium aroma intensity. Dark aromas … blackberry, smoke, licorice. Little to no red fruit.
Medium to big, chewy tannins. Full bodied. High alcohol. Flavors of black fruit, licorice, stewed plums. Long finish.

Holds nothing back. Ripe, concentrated. Alcohol content is typical Napa high, but the impression is not hot. Rich blackberry fruit, creme de cassis, loamy earth. Licorice kick on the finish.

A beautiful Napa Cab! Nose was very aeromatic with cedar, tobacco and dark fruit. Flavors of bright cherry - red and black, currants and black raspberry. Great balance of nice tannins and acid with a dry finish of dark fruit, tobacco and leather.

Exquisite Cabernet Sauvignon. Solid aeromatics with a bouquet and tasting notes of red cherry and blackberry. Rich, full bodied mouthfeel with mixed spice including tobacco, anise and leather, followed by a long, savory finish with hints of white cracked pepper. Well integrated tannins and balanced acidity from start to finish. Excellent experience drinking this Cab now but probably has another 5 to 7 years in the bottle.

WOTN - Wine of the Night - Deep garnet-purple color, full-bodied, firmly structured yet perfectly balanced and silky smooth, elegant and polished, full concentrated black berry fruits with notes of crème de cassis, graphite, hints of cigar box and what Robert Parker described as tree bark turning to a long sinewy spicy oak laced finish. https://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2020/11/fabulous-premium-wine-flight-for.html

Two and a half hour decant. Very deep dark magenta color. Gala apple peel, dried strawberry, and butterscotch hard candy on the brooding, faded fruit nose. Very smooth, dry palate, with tongue coating acidity. Full, crushed velvety tannins on the very long finish.
This wine is in a very shy phase of its evolution. It’s quite delicate at the moment.

Napa Weekend; 4/20/2018-4/23/2018 (Napa): Part of private tasting at Hall Rutherford. Paired with veal terrine & 5 year aged cheddar. Again, struggle on QPR at $200+ given all the options at that price point but that shouldn't be a sleight on this wine. It was clearly above the 2015 Bergfeld and 2015 Veeder - showed ability to be ready to drink now, but has the backbone to age another 5-10.

A line up of 2014 Bergfeld, 2014 Mt. Veeder, 2014 Exzellenz, 2014 K Hall and 2013 Bishop (Platinum) at the winery’s Private Tasting. All decanted for about an hour except for the Bishop which had several hours of air.
Mostly sourced from the Sacrashe vineyard – intense dark fruit with sweet toasty oak, dusty/chalky notes, olives, savory smoked/seasoned meat, highly tannic – excellent wine that will improve with age. (95+)

Two hours sitting in the glass before drinking. Lilac, plum, boysenberry, blackberry and toasted baking spice on the expressive nose. Smooth palate and full, long finish.

A decade of exzellenz: 95-98 pts, barrel sample. 2014 was an early vintage coming in with ripe soft tannins. Approachable, yet structured. Caramel, cinnamon, sweet and supple. More approachable than 2013.

Huge dark fruit with lots of tannic structure. Easily the best hall to drink right now. Perfect with a ribeye. Drink or hold.
