Deep red color and a surprisingly fruity nose - especially compared to the Tignanello of the same year we drank side by side. The Ornellaia seemed to be fresher but had a dominant acidity both in the nose and on the palate during the first 1 or 2 hours. That disappeared in the course of the evening and left the wine much more balanced. A lively bouquet of red fruit and espresso, some chocolate and vanilla. Medium but silky finish. Will hold for a couple of more years.

Slight brick rim, cherry red, dominating green pepper tomato vine, finishing on a silky sweet cherry note. The finish was better than the nose. This wine is at the cusp of starting its decline, I would urge everyone to start enjoying them before it’s too late. Drink now and over the following 5 years

very pleasant surprise in supposed off vintage. Ripe cassis on nose and also on palate, fruit feel a bit decadent/mature but still very much alive with a finessed feel that is sometimes missing from more contemporary versions of Ornellaia. Finishes with a leafy green-ish character like an old fashioned left bank of yesteryear. Excellent

A "forgotten" magnum in excellent condition from the near-perfect cellar of a friend. Ruby. Bordeaux style, after 23 years still in great shape. Red (not black) fruit, eucalyptus, minty notes, tobacco and some sour cherry that's so typical for a Bolgheri Cab. Silky, smooth and still fresh. Excellent balance, and long finish.

Wow, wow, wow!!! Light brownish-red. Big and awesome nose of luvly ripe fruits with touches of spice and herbs. Round, ripe palate, silky and elegant tannins on the palate. Nearly perfect! Definitely more life in her, but sipping stunningly now. Why would anyone buy Masseto at 2x+ the price...albeit also an excellent wine?
Bottle HS / IN, cellared from the beginning in a good cellar
Not oxidised, in a good condition, the fruit is still alive but in the background, some cassis, cedarwood, cigarbox, ripe tannins, very soft and silky, medium bodied like a Bordeaux, for me at the top respectively just passed it, still good aciditystructure, nice with food 91-92

Wow - this was really something. Clearly right in it's window although it's prob got another 5 years or so. We really love the Super Tuscans with some age - had the 2010 of this a few months ago and it was nowhere near ready to be consumed. This was lovely though. Nice deep raspberry jam, maybe a touch of cigar, get some smokiness to it. Nothing overpowering. Just a nice elegant wine. Would definitely look for another of these.

Wine of this year, complex & pronounce nose of perfectly evolved bordeaux blend, tea leave, tobacco, cigar, cassis. Palate is also impeccable, tons of concentration, and not full body with a over 30secs of length and dried herbs, savoury finsih.

Left to air for several hours but not decanted. Initially the colour was slightly dusky, velvety amber though totally translucent color but it brightens with time in the glass. Nose is very nice dried red roses, damp earth, black and red cherries, very smooth and elegant....some kind of dried dates and figs on the back....also counterpointed by some subtle high notes. Palate is sharp well-delineated black fruit and great acidic fresh frame with present but very resolved tannins. Very harmonious. Back end is Chinese red dates, fresh Eastern dates, plum compote and segues into rich blackcurrant jelly, black liquorice root and some Chinese medicine with that lovely tannic soft dryness. Increasingly complex….. smoke in a church the morning after midnight Mass. The acidity was initially too predominant on opening but mellowed and harmonized within 30 minutes in the glass. Medium bodied but with a punch and a very long-lasting high piano notes resonance on the finale. Wow it has an endless high-noted resonance. I think this is in its prime drinking window for those who enjoy their wines more matured but not entombed. Time to drink up though, because it fades to prune after an hour in the glass (although fine if kept in small pours from the bottle). This went perfectly to plan with our Christmas turkey lunch with all the trimmings and a hefty dose went into making a sublime if somewhat expensive gravy.

Very good and very interesting bottle. Some green notes on the nose with rich fruit. It offers a nice mix of fruit with cassis, raspberry and red plum. Cedar and a touch of old wood completes the nose. While this is not the most structured wine, the palate is still well defined, very similar to the nose. A lot of fruit but balanced, never over ripe or overdone. Oak is well integrated. Finish is a little short. You have the feeling you can taste all 3 grapes and that's great. Maybe the only thing missing is more tertiary aromas and more earthiness. But otherwise, very good.

Now well past the peak and after a lucious mouthfeel little followthrough on the finish. The nose is incredibly closed and this was clear on two separate occasions. While still an enjoyable drink, I would not be buying new additions to my cellar for this.

Very enjoyable bottle of wine. Good color - not a lot gone there. Nose was solid after a 2 hour decant...some minor funk at the open but blew off. Tasted like a 16 yr old bottle which is a compliment - tobacco, earth a hint of smoke/ash. Smooth on the palate and a good finish. Drinking well now. Have one left - will open it soon. 93+

Dark black/red plum skin colour, deep inpenetrable opaque just lightening slightly at the edges. Nose is an immediate rush of lovely rich sweet mahogany furniture polish, very Bordeaux-ish, earth....... Palate is gorgeously soft, Merlot-style velvet glove on an iron fist, then lots of red berries, sharp early season blackberries and juniper berries emerge. The finish fills your head and carries a lovely slow-burn long lingering resonance. Drinking perfectly now. Quite special.

Wine Cellar Food & Wine - Italy Super Tuscan (Auslese, Cape Town): (Tasted Blind): A mid to deep ruby to garnet edges. An intense nose with pencil lead, graphite, cassis, cedarwood and semi-dried orange zest. The wine asserts a very Bordeaux-like presence with an elegance I didn't expect. The structure is full-bodied, with cedary notes morphing to some herbal elements - like just fallen leaves. The tannins are still prominent and grippy with a lively acidity, and the finish is medium to long. Overall, I enjoyed the wine but the herbal quality was quite forthright and didn't seem as integrated as it should have been.

Dinner with friends (My place): Showing a bit of age with a slightly orange glow around the edges and a nicely developed aroma and taste of pure, cool and classic blackcurrant fruit, a bit hot and sweet. There are also notes of shoe polish, tobacco leaf, cedar and rust. The wine ends with a slightly bitter iron note which stands in contrast to the sweetness. But overall very beautiful and delicious. Perfectly mature now.

Beautifully developed and complex nose with freshly ground coffee, sewer and some sweet red pepperfruit. Also showing kirsch style notes of black currant, varnish and rust. The palate is all about elegance displaying black currant with a hint of coffee. Also some red pepperfruit, a medium body and a long and spicy aftertaste. Some sweet liquorice showing nicely on the mid-palate. A clean and pure stylistic elegance. Sure at its peak or slightly declining. A pleasure to enjoy!

Officially the most expensive bottle I've ordered on a restaurant list, amazing intensity, a touch 'thinner' than other vintages, but this really delvers on the palate - Brick red, medium/full bodied with a nose of black fruit, plum and vanilla, strong tannic structure, balanced, elegant and smooth on the finish with excellent length (91 Points).

Drunk on Xmas day with Guinea-Fowl. Not the perfect match, but far from a clash.
Purple core giving way to garnet, with still good density of colour. Surprisingly visible legs for a wine of only 13% alcohol. A slightly austere nose of black fruits vying with tobacco aromas, but with richer aromas released by a swirl of the glass. The texture is excellent and carries well across the palate. Blackcurrant and blackberry are present wth maybe plum and a hint of tobacco and earth. Still mainly in primary flavours, there's certainly a hint of secondary adding additional complexity. Tannins are still evident and slightly drying and together with the fresh acidity, shows there's still plenty left in this wine and is maybe still a little young. The finish has good length, but maybe the tannins are hiding a little more depth to the finish? A light sediment was thrown.
Drink 2007-2011+, but it's certainly drinkable now. Whilst not cheap, it is classy, and is much more true to the line than the disappointing 1993 we tasted earlier this year.

Expressive nose displaying intense cassis, strong notes of mint and eucalyptus, wet tobacco, cedar, leather and earth. Excellent concentration, intense cassis and mint driven palate impression, bright acidity, slightly coarse tannins and a long intense cassis and mint driven finish. There is a hint of sourness in the nose that I associate with Tuscan cab. Perhaps due to the provenance, really youthful showing.
