Some Wines from the 2018 La Paulée Grand Tasting of 2015 Burgundy (The Fairmont, San Francisco): Light, green, some brettanomyces. Meager. Yikes, I stopped at the table to give them the benefit of the doubt since their 3 Echezeaux yesterday at the Verticals showed so poorly. Not much better luck with this vintage, it seems. I am flummoxed by the over the top reviews for this wine.

Domaine Jean-Marc Millot Masterclass: Wow, lots of structure and lots of aroma here, a touch more sophisticated it feels than the Clos Vougeot but really like a close sibling to it. Great wine as well but you have to like the more sturdy Burgundy style, put this next to a Chambolle and you will know what I mean. In any case, Millot has three different plots in Echezeaux (Echezeaux du dessus, Poulailleres, Clos St.Denis) and it shows in the sophisticated aromas of this wine. 95-96

The nose showed crushed raspberry, dried flowers, wild herbs, pepper and hints of spice. On the palate, I found soft textures with mineral and herbal tinged red fruits. It finished long with saturating dark red berries and fine tannin. It’s wonderfully elegant and spicy with a beautiful floral character throughout.

A bit of reduction on the nose. Dark fruit, spices, earthy notes. More power than Les Suchots on the palate, ripe fruit, firm tannins, fine length. Needs time. 91-92+(+)

Is this really Echezeaux? Where is the perfume, elegance, or even intense roughness? Thin as water. 88

La Paulée de San Francisco - Grand Tasting (The Fairmont - San Francisco CA): Tasting, brief note. Lighter style with very pretty red fruit and charming savory spice. Very elegant.

Echézeaux Grand Cru Masterclass with Jeannie Cho Lee MW (China Club, Central, Hong Kong): pale ruby; freshly acidic, light body, yet very intense; cherry, blackberry, plum, bit candied, nutmeg, almonds, grassy, earthy, leather, some meat, good length; excellent now, but expect to improve further with age
