Sensational wine. One of the best wines I have had this year. Medium to dark red. Pomegranate, blood orange, sour cherry notes. Very smooth, balance and integrated. Good length, layers of flavors. Luscious mouthfeel. Silky.

Black cherry start-to-finish with very good concentration and still nicely fresh. Slightly sweet spice. Reasonable restraint to start, then evolving into something slightly sweeter and longer with more air.

A touch of varnish present in this bottle. The dark cherries and smooth tannins weren't trying to hide it - they were there, doing their great thing. But that hint, a shadow, a mere whisper of varnish kept popping up throughout the glass. Sigh.......

What a great Dumol Pinot. Lively fruit with lots of dimension. Over two hours it became more integrated and sensuous. Very enjoyable. Drink now through 2016

Popped and poured with seared tuna steaks. Black cherry and plum fruit has yielded somewhat to secondary flavors. Strong mid palate and finish with mushrooms, forest floor and and cedar. Silky and seamless.

Consistent with our previous tasting note, except the texture is even silkier, the spice is more concentrated, but somehow the balance is still there. Lovely, lovely wine. Wish I had more of it.

- Violet color with fast forming legs and aromas of raspberry and violet. It's in total harmony and has flavours of raspberry with a medium/full body. Bright texture with a long finish - At river Oyster Bar with Arlene and Paul Rogoff. Decanted for 45 minutes before traveling. Needed more. Opened up at dinner's end.

Double decanted for 1/2 hr in am. Redecanted for !-1/4hrs before traveling to Michael's. Needed the air. In the morning showed reticent bouquet, and tart notes. With extended air developed a syrupy richness which Ellen loved. Requires a long decant.

Dark garnet unto purple. Dark dark fruit, a little pinot funk, spice and cola on the nose. Big red fruit, black cherry, and a slightly tart/bitter (in a good way) finish. Very little of the angularity that I like in pinot (at least the burgundy type of pinot). Overall a nice California pinot, but not really my bag (anymore).

Luscious. Intense. Opulent. Yet surprisingly light on its feet. I suspect this sort of balance of size and delicacy is very difficult to achieve. Like watching Jackie Gleason dance, cannot believe something that large can move so gracefully.

Again decanted for 2-1/2 hours. Again wonderful raspberry/wild strawberry flavors, great bouquet, and slightly tart finish. Drinking beautifully now, and will only improve from here. (I saw that WS gave the recent release of the Finn, 97 points!)

Dinner Party at Home w Danny Spring & Jean Marc DeSilva and Arlene & Paul Rogoff (1915 Brickell Avenue, C1507, Miami, FL): Decanted it and 07 A. P. Vin for 2-1/2 hours. Tasted both to see which would go first with Ellen's take on Patick Oconnell's(The Inn at Little Washington) "dry" Sea of Cortez Diver Scallops w sweet Italian Sausage, Mushrooms and Red Pepper Coulis(to which she forgot to add the last second Pernod). The Ryan after the decant was more aromatic, so I served it first. A wonderful Pinot, with raspberry scents, the tang of wild strawberries on the mouth, and a lingering finish. With the extended decant It's at a perfect place now. Tonight, I thought it a touch ahead of the 07 A.P. Vin Turner V. However, Ellen, Paul, Danny, and Jean Marc preferred the A.P. Vin. Fortunately this is my 1st of my six pack, of which I'll drink 2 in the near future, and hold the rest for 2 to 3 years.

Decanted for one hour. In the glass, almost clear red with a very slight touch of violet at the rim. On the nose, a blast of concentrated pinot spice. On the palate, cherries and a silky core of pinot spice with secondary notes of stone fruit, minerality, and a hint of alcohol that was noticeable, but never really got in the way of the wine. Smooth texture on the palate, with a reasonably long finish. Really nice pinot, and I think there is still some room for improvement over the next 2-3 years.

Uncorked this wine and let sit in the bottle for an hour -- and it was EXCEPTIONAL -- one of the best US Pinot's I have ever tasted. It was complex and balanced and exuberated both minerally and fruit sensations on the palate. We drank this next to some great other pinot's (other 94 pointers) and this one was by far the best -- I LOVED IT!!!

Uncorked but not decanted for an hour before beginning to enjoy. Violets, heady cedar and a tinge of lemon(?) on the nose, black cherry and dark fruit flavors. Darker and more rich than most pinots, with enough acid to cut through foul but the depth to stand up to red meat, with a nice coating of the palate on the way down to leave a lingering 20+ second finish. Lacking the burgindian funk of old world and the in-your-face cola of so many new world pinots. This is solidly in its stride, and is the type of pinot I find most enjoyable. Should be good for several years to come, but sadly the last of my two bottles.

Wow -- dark ruby color, rich, smoky nose, and a very rich textureon the palate; dark cherry, cola, baking spice, and even chocolate notes, a but of heat (that blew off with air), and a very long rich finish. Not the slightest bit Burgundian, but what a treat.

Nose of ripe bing cherries w/ aromas of herbs and spices...very indigenous to Russian River pinots. Surpirsingly soft mouth feel for a pinot. Red candied fruit to start which gives way to a tight mid-palate w/ a hint of oak. The finish is the best part, back to ripe red fruit and goes on for over a minute. This pinot is great now and still has at least 3-4 yrs of aging potential ahead of it. A real keeper...gonna save my other two bottles for down the road.

Drank side-by-side with the 2005 Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast, and the Ryan was a much bigger wine with more complexity, fruit, balance finish. The 2005 KB SC doesn't compare to the 2003 in many ways, but every vintage brings it's own tresure to share.

Decanted and allowed to sit for an hour. As GZ3 noted, while the wine's profile changed, it was great right out of the bottle and certainly doesn't require air. Other comments adequately describe, with smoke and elegance descriptors that seem to hold strong. A great pinot!

I'm right there with E and winefool. The nose on this shows good concentration and depth, with herbs, Asian spices, strawberry, raspberry, and lovely (almost campfire-like) smoke. The palate brings still more of the same, with emphasis on the spices. It's ripe but never too sweet or in your face; the tannins are integrated and silky; the acidity is adequate but not tart; and thus the balance is nigh flawless. (That marks a change from the '03 DuMOLs, which I found to be solid but a bit hot.) In sum, this is a pretty wine, and a precise one at that.

WS California Wine Experience Pinot Noir Tasting (San Francisco Marriott): Full purple color. Full tight aroma of black/purple fruit. Big bold tight red cherry fruit. A classic approach to pinot that needs some time to mature in bottle and open up in glass. Great balance with an almost feminine side. Best of the tasting for me and most of my group.
