Definitely a little over the hill. Fortunately my last bottle. Drinkable but not as good last bottle in 2021. Still cherries and green pepper but just a little closed.

PnP. Nose shows wood shavings. Rustic cherry and raspberry with a pronounced tartness, fading into baking spice before a muddled finish of pronounced oak, dusty earth, and brighter red fruits over a peppery finale. I suspect this was nicer when it was younger. Drink up if you have any left.

On the nose- Big dark fruits, dark cherries, blackberries, dark blueberries, plums, cassis, bramble berries, dark liqueur syrup, red raspberries, violets, black pepper, baking spices, oak, vanilla

Score bump for QPR points and yum factor. This was great right out of the gates in terms of approachability and flavor. Tipped towards a red fruit profile, with dusty tannins and smooth delivery. Classy side of Zin. Drank nicely night one, and held up overnight better than most Zins do. Credit the acidity? Look forward to remaining bottles.

Definitely in a good place for current drinking, with crunchy red fruits, a little spice, a little dried herb, and moderate acidity. To me, it’s a more complete wine than the 2015 Juvenile.

We agree that this is a great entry point wine into Turley style. That said, we think there are Zinfandels for the price point that are much more distinctive. We think it is going for “this tastes like a Zinfandel and is a clear expression of California Zin”, in which case we agree it achieves its goal.
Bien bon.

Solid Zin. Raspberry and pepper on the nose. Medium bodied, high toned with bright red fruits, and plenty of acidity. Short finish and bit one dimensional initially, finally opening after an hour to put on a bit of depth. Seems to be holding up quite well. Good value at $25 from the mailing list.

The missus raved about it but I thought it on the lower half of the Turley line up. The alcohol is noticeable but not overpowering. To me, the fruit is just kind of there but I was corrected and told the fruit is ripe with fresh purple tones. Both agree the finish is long.

Crimson in color. 15.5% ABV. Gorgeous nose of red and black fruits, anise, peach and pepper. Medium body with mouth watering acidity. Rich, sweet and perfectly balanced. Blackberry, raspberry liqueur and baking spices on the palate. Medium length on the finish. Perhaps this lacks the concentration of the best Turley vineyard designates but it is without question the best Old Vines I can recall. Drink over the next 1-2 years.

Note complémentaire à venir le lendemain.

From magnum at Thanksgiving dinner. Suffers from the same out-of-balance acidity as many 2015 Turleys we’ve had. But that was a positive accompanying the heavier textures and flavors of the meal. Cranberries, dried apricots, unripe cherries and underlying tobacco. Not a good sipper; but worked with the meal. Drink now.

PNP, explosive nose, not sure of what as I got too drunk to remember, this clocks in at a whooping 15.5% ABV...so I don’t remember much after the second pour. Minus that big drawback it was good with Bolognese! Drink now with a hangover for sure to come the next day..ugh

This wine struggles at the outset with a dominating aroma of wet forest floor mold. Fortunately, the fruit traits set in after the initial front load of mold and loam on he palate. Red fruit flavors of cranberry, raspberry, pomegranate and red plum, as well as some black berry notes and hints of vanilla. Seemed to improve after a couple of hours breathing, but this “old vine” doesn’t deliver the characteristic old vine essence, lacking the briary, bramble essence characteristic in true old vine Zins. Overall, mediocre wine from a purportedly good Zin maker.

Once the sweaty armpits aroma subsides (not sure what’s going on with that), this is a lovely wine. Suffers from its vintage in that some of the ‘15s we’ve tasted from Turley are wired differently than usual — more acid and less body and texture. But nice plum, blackberry, blueberry and hillside brush on the palate. Spicy finish. Suggest drinking now.

I am not a fan of Zinfandel in general. And then I really liked this bottle, definitely more than the previous one. It was quite delicious, the fruit was more muted than a typical Zinfandel, the wine was balanced, with nice texture and finish.

2015 Turley horizontal, 10 Zins and a White Coat. All except the White Coat were double decanted, about an hour in the decanter, then back into the bottle. This was tasted last, and as usual, Old Vines punches above its weight. As good as Hayne and Ueberroth are, this one is $25, and is really good. It doesn’t have the signature characteristics of some of the single vineyards, but sometimes, those who have been on the mailing list for a while think it is one of the best. One could sip it, or pair it, without any regrets.

The last couple of wine's that I have had from Turley (including this one) have been too fruit forward, which is not my favorite type of wine. With that being said, it's a great bargain if you like a wine with a lot of fruit.

Ok...so it is California Zinfandel, and sports 15.5 abv. This noted, this is the type of Zinfandel to drink, on account of its substance, and, believe it or not, balance. It features compelling raspberry fruit, sarsaparilla, and fine mineral expansiveness. It will hold for several years, but there is no reason not to enjoy it now.

A Zin that starts out like a Pinot. Medium to light body and opacity. Aromas of cellar, wet limestone and saline. The palate has red cherries and finishes with succulent jammyness.
Second night had a glass after a Cab and this had a more sweet finish, cherry lollipop flavor.

By the glass at the BA lounge NYC. Not sure how long this has been opened. Dark fruited nose, points to and delivers a sweet and ripe palate, a bit too sweet, dark frutis, spice and just a bit too juicy. Not for our palate. 84 and feel a bit pushed.

I should lie and tell everyone what a terrible wine this is. It isn't of course, but I thought it might keep a few more bottles available for us. This is a terrific buy from Turley. It's flavorful, featuring deep red fruit flavors, and a bit zesty, showing its generic characteristics. Excellent mouthfeel and aftertaste. Nice deep reddish-purple color. No decanting necessary.

Short trip to Paso Robles (Booker/Turley): Small tasting pour. Very ripe fruit, raisiny, alcoholic nose. Palate overripe dark red fruit, alcohol and slightly greenish palate. Rather hollow, light wine. I hardly have any experience with Zinfandel wines but this was neither very enjoyable or memorable.

Rich and porty, with an almost syrup-like density. Masses of confected cherry and plum, some nice liquorice and spice. There is character trying to show through, but it's such a burly beast with a hot edge on the finish, the personality is constantly being snuffed out.

Crimson in color. 15.5% ABV. Brambly nose of red and black fruits, plums and licorice. Medium body with mouth watering acidity. Rich, lush and delicious. Cherries, salmonberries and pepper on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. I've seen conflicting reports on this wine. All I can say is this is outstanding and an absolute steal at $25. Drink over the next 2-3 years.

Another vintage, another killer bottle of Turley Old Vines. I honestly think the quality of these keeps improving every year. Explosive brambly nose and higher toned raspberries, cinnamon, and pepper on the palate. Medium ++ bodied with plenty of acidity (more then previous years I feel like), and a nice complex midpalate. No heat, but a slightly clipped finish is my only slight 'complaint'......but that's really nitpicking as this was damn tasty. Excellent wine and really strong value.

Red fruit on entry—more towards dried fruit than ripe, fresh fruit. However, not sweet-amplified, like you might expect. So, are you with me here? More savoriness than I would expect from a Zin. Not terribly full-bodied, but, certainly, not wimpy. Observable tannin and acid, but not over the top in either case. Good, easy to enjoy wine.

60m decant. Everything that you'd expect and want from a California old-vine Zinfandel. Early on bright fruit dominated with just the smoothest of peppery zings, later evolved into more licorice and cherry. I could drink cases of this without ever tiring of it. I understand why others want to lay this down for a bit but I like this one now with a decant.

Another fabulous cuvee from Larry and the crew. Just discovered in my cellar that I had a case of this wine that I had never opened. A cork in one of the bottles quickly popped out to my delight. Great nose of fruit and spice. Then served with about 15 minutes of air time at 60 degrees or so through an aerator into two Riedel glasses (one for zinfandels, the other for cabs). It was not to disappoint. Smooth well balanced juices of licorice, cherry, and vanilla, to name a few, with well timed and placed hints of white pepper and other equally hedonistic Turley spices. Nice long aftertaste. Aaah.

Really tight right now. Red hot and juicy. Blackberry , plum, and dark cherries. Smoke and white pepper in th back. From magnum, served at Thanksgiving dinner. A beautiful expression of Zinfandel, and drinking incredibly well right now. Spicy black-fruit nose and some nice heft and zing on the palate; delightful with the turkey and sides. A shorter finish than most. But a well put together, integrated offering. Probably D’s best Thanksgiving meal yet. (= Worth Seeking Out)

20 min decant. Blackberry, green pepper and a bit of anise to the nose. Smells HOT! Looks thin on the pour. But is a thick hot mess on the tongue. Black fruit and pepper with a lit of fairly unstructured young tannin notes. Blends to vanilla, white pepper with an almost brandy finish. Had to try this early and it is really good now but this needs to sit down for a bit to blend its way out to its best.

Vines anywhere from 41-129 years old. Ripe blueberries and blackberries at first. Really started to show well after 2 hrs decanting. Fruit subsided, heat blew off and structure came out. Last sip had a nice peppery note to it wishing I had another. Lay down for a bit for it to all come together.

Drink now.

Aaah.

needs some bottle aging time. Currently, fruit forward, but little backbone or complexity.

BlackBerry taste with hints of plum and vanilla. Not as spicy as other Turleys. Silky on the tongue with some mild tannins.

PNP. Consumed over two hours. Well balanced. Not too tannic. Slightly sweet. Spicy Zin. Solid QPR Zin. Could enjoy this every day. It's young but early thought is 91-92 range. Very enjoyable!
