Primary notes of lime rind, lime leaf, unripe peach, wet stone & whiff of petrol. Acidity is laser-like. All in all a beautiful wine but at this stage I’m finding the fruit a bit hollow in the mid palate (& the acidity has enveloped). Dynamite aperitif wine though, esp. for the price.

91pts. Light on its feet like a Kabinett must be, and not really sweet, since its residual sweetness is balanced by its acidity. Playful and refreshing - the bottle was empty in absolutely no time. Good minerality as typical from this vineyard. For $10 this is absolutely a must have wine in the cellar if one enjoys the style.

Pale lemon in colour, the nose radiates freshness and vivid floral tones of white flowers, Lillies, apple blossom and grapefruit peel. The entry is clean and bright with a tight apple-edged acidity that gives a zest and life to the wine. Linear in palate shape, the wine shows white flowers, yellow grapefruit and a touch of lime and rock dust, giving at first a strident texture, but this is quickly assuaged by a fructophilic sugar giving a glassiness and slight roundness to the mid-palate. Excellent, cool and freshening,

Pure deliciousness bottled under screwcap. A fair bit of spritz that needed to be shaken out a bit. Generous on the nose - white flowers, unripe peach, citrus oil. Tremendously balanced with great emergy and intensity of flavors, sharp acid melded with just the right amount of kabinett sweetness, unripe peach/apricot fruit, grapefruit pith/mineral bitterness, with a squeeze of calamansi lime. A hint of petrol lurking. More expressive than the 2018 (at this point).

Light yellow-green, watery rim @9% abv. Well-defined riesling aromas of petrole, apple, lemon, tropical fruits rubber. Off dry-semi sweet, medium(+) acidity, low alcohol and medium body, Palate of ripe golden delicious, lychee, stone fruit, star fruit. Refined acidity balances the fruit forward attack. Focused sweetness frames the long finish with a slight lemon-pith bitterness. Excellent!

Excellent as usual, with crystalline fruit balanced between citrus and orchard fruits. Quite fleshy, needs time to balance out, but well on its way to that gorgeous racy mineral tinged explosion of lime and peach Donhoff delivers with precision.

This is a great wine! White flowers, quartz, citrus rind nose. Subtle, delicate, complex. Palate shows good intensity, with lovely balance and drive. Citrus fruits and mineral-ly hints. Salivating and more-ish. Lovely. Pure. It just flows. All at 9% ABV. 18.5/20

Tasted over three days. The Nahe produces great Riesling, and this is a fine example. The bouquet offers white and yellow flower perfume, slightly under ripe stone fruit (white peach in particular) subtropical fruit notes, including carambola, early ripe persimmon (still tart), and pineapple core, along with honeydew melon, and mandarin spritz. Light kerosene and distinct mineral veins also show prominently. The wine tastes like it smells, with the slightly under ripe white peach and pineapple core notes pronounced. Poised, layered, and expansive, excellent precision and lift, inflection changing finish of impressive length. For all its beauty, the wine imparted an impression of compactness, indicating that it will evolve, and probably improve. 92-93. Outstanding QPR!

clocking in at 9%EtOH the sucraphobes in the group were unable to process this wine. I, however, found it lovely, with the mild RS in very nice balance with the crisp, steely mineralogy, and the long mildly tart apple-pear finish. An excellent accompaniment to the cheeses, the fish, or stand alone next day sipper with some zip.
9% alcohol. Tasted blind among 49 other 2016 Riesling Kabinetts in Kabinett Cup 2016.
Pale green color. Fruity and expressive, but perhaps a bit simple nose of pear marmalade, sweet apples, some greengage and a hint of honeydew melon. The wine is crisp, intense and very vibrant on the palate with medium body and super-attractive, fresh and pretty complex off-dry flavors of bitter stony minerality, ripe red apples, incisive steeliness, some freshly peeled ripe pear, a little bit of honey, a hint of floral spice and a touch of white pepper. The wine shows impressive power without having big emphasis on the weight or body. The acidity is high, giving the wine wonderful freshness and structure. The finish is long, somewhat drier than the midpalate and quite fruity with flavors of freshle pressed apple juice, some lemon marmalade, a little bit of quinine bitterness, a hint of steely character and a floral touch of apple blossom.
A wonderfully fresh, pure and balanced Kabinett showing remarkable intensity and harmony. The wine is obviously somewhat sweet, but nothing beyond "semi-dry" - the residual sugar effectively just boosts the fruit and lends the wine some wonderful sense of balance and smoothness without making it appear particularly sweet. Both the high acidity and the slightly bitter minerality offset most of the sense of sweetness. A delicate yet intense Kabinett that is drinking beautifully now but also shows good potential to develop further at least over short-to-medium term. This was my 3rd best wine of the tasting and it also managed to secure a total of 14 points from 12 judges, making it overall the 4th best wine out of 50 wines. Great value at 13,50€.

Very different from the 2015 iteration, which was much riper and sweeter. The 2016 is a much more classic in style. I do perceive a slight greenness in the wine in addition to its exhuberant florality and tropical notes. Good wine, though in my opinion, not a particular standout within its price bracket.

Floral notes, grapefruit. Tons of acid balanced by the slightest creamy texture. Terrifically fine with excellent tension. Drinks more towards off dry range than many kabinetts. Tremendous for the kabinett range with such purity and precision. A steal at $30. I'd feel more inclined to stash a few if this wine wasn't so predictably excellent and great QPR.

Dönnhoff is one of my favorite wineries, so I knew I was going to enjoy this. But I had to be surprised by the quality delivered by this bottle for its price. This is a very, very nice Kabinett true to its name - not a declassified Spätlese. Its residual sugar is perfectly balanced by its acidity, in such a way it is never cloying. My wife, for example, never drinks sweet Riesling, and she loved this.
Besides that perfect balance, it is really complex for a Kabinett - tropical fruits are plentiful both on the nose and on the palate. I couldn't help but think about those multivitamin juices where there is a bit of everything , because I could find so many fruit notes especially on the palate. Great purity too, although it can't be drank too cold - it gained on weight and intensity as the temperature climbed on the glass. 92-93pts.

A Rieslingfeier of our Own; 2/13/2017-2/18/2017 (Traben-Trarbach, Germany): Recently bottled; no AP yet. This was very difficult to evaluate as it showed a fair amount of green acidity that was still quite hard on the palate, though Helmut remarked that that was normal and that with a few more months the acidity would smooth out. I picked up some grapefruit and tart citrus as well, but I'm not sure how this note will hold up with more time. In any case, the wine seems good, if a bit hard to approach now.
