Guys Port Weekend - LA (Claremont, CA): Amber orange in color with just a slight tinge of pink. Red fruits and some light alcohol on the nose. Rich red fruit with some heat on the palate. Nice sweetness with just a touch of bitterness on the very end of the finish.

I remember my 14th birthday in 1974 when my mother gave me this bottle (1963 being close to my birth year of 1960 and a much better vintage). So, with a group of friends, I decided this was the birthday to enjoy it. I gave it 8 hours in the decanter. Palest red in the decanter, but tawny in the glass. Quite delicious and, for me obviously, very special.

Opened for NY Eve 2013. Almost Tawny colored. Blackberry, Black currant (cassis), Cherry, Plum, and Toast. Smooth texture. Long finish. Surprisingly excellent 50yr VP.

Just picked up a few of these at auction and figured I would try one. On opening, heavy VA; needed to let it sit overnight. Today pale garnet with tawny notes, with a nose of figs and marmelade, caramel, cotton candy. Sweet and light, fruit has mostly faded away here, palate shows considerable length and heat but a bit underflavored. Drink up.

Opened at 19 PM on christmas eve, let it breathe for 2 hours. Smell of caramel, figs and cherries. Pale pink colour. Taste of red fruit, caramel, marzipan. Very gentle and soft. It still has enough tannins in it to last another 5 years. Excellent tearing in the glass, looks like syrup. My friends were impressed by this wine.
