This wasn’t as great as I had hoped. A bit thin and bitter when just opened, it did gain a bit with air but showed no real complexity and power like the best German Riesling can.

A bit of sulfur on the nose and palate. The nose is surprisingly ripe already for a '16, but on the palate you get the piercing young Morstein acidity and minerality. 91 for drinking now, but plenty of upside!

Wow. Intensity personified. One of my wines of the night. Still very primary: intense lemon, peach, guava. Loads of dry extract, minerality, salinity. Just singing.

Otra botella de este excepcional vino que me sigue enamorando. La única diferencia con lo anterior es que en esta ocasión no tuvo decantación alguna se abrió y se vertió de forma inmediata; en este caso produjo unos finos aromas de hidrocarburos que no se detectaron en la anterior ocasión y que desaparecieron al cabo de unos 20 minutos. Este aroma de hidrocarburos es muy típico y para nada desagradable, al contrario lo veo como un atributo más.

Josephinenhuette Red wine glas. Coravined. Nose:incredible nice smell of mango and peach. Decent acidity and nice fruit on the palate also. However, acidity slightly dominating at this point. Potential for 95+ in a couple of years time.

Dufter av mild sitrus (grapefrukt), våt stein og kanskje noe gras. Herlig munnfølelse - frisk og syrlig først, litt saltpreg, herlig vibrerende. Mer mineralsk enn fruktig, selv om den har en del sitrusfrukt. Virker ganske fersk og overraskende lite utviklet for en 2016. Lover godt for framtida, men også herlig drikke nå.
Etter å ha sett på notatet fra 2018 tenker vi at denne kanskje er i e lukket fase akkurat nå. Vi fikk i alle fall ikke noe av den rike frukten fra den gang.

BYO Litteraturhuset (Litteraturhuset i Oslo): Lys strågul farge. Tropisk duft som av en mosel auslese - søtlige, tropiske toner av ananas, moden lime og klementiner. Duften endrer seg etterhvert og noe av det tropiske forsvinner. Smakt blindt er dette litt forvirrende; smaken følger ikke duften, den fremstår som stram, syrerik og litt forknytt, det er god kraft og konsentrasjon men jeg syns smakskurven får en litt for brå stopp. Som om den mangler litt frukt, og jeg mistenker at dette ikke var en optimal flaske. Velger derfor å ikke gi poeng.

Really beautiful Riesling. Brilliant light to medium lemon yellow. Nose has lime, wet slate and pineapple in the forefront. High, almost bracing acidity. Palate has more lime, echos of various topical fruits, like the pineapple on the nose but also guava. There is some pear and white peach popping in the finish as well. Great, rich oily texture. So many layers, contrasts and varying nuances over time. Changes over time but always both forward yet restrained and elegant. Plenty of life left and like to age magnificently for many years to come.

Ni en el momento de la apertura ni posteriormente produjo la sensación volcánica de hidrocarburos que es tan propia de esta variedad, por el contrario el aroma es de una finura exquisita y conllevaba manzana ácida , melocotón blanco, algo de cítricos y con un fondo delicadamente gaseoso. La boca es intensa y vibrante, casi eléctrica, marcada por una acidez muy bien compensada; produce sensaciones de fruta blanca con hueso, florales y cítricas con una cierta mineralidad de fondo, con un postgusto larguísimo que deja sensaciones salinas. Lovely stitch and fiercely seductive aromas with this rich and forward-looking style in the 2016 vintage that impresses. Beautiful fruit of juicy citrus, juicy grapefruit, apples and this almost the sea air feeling with salty stems that create excitement. Pretty full-bodied and fresh wine that immediately spreads around in a flamboyant and extremely charming way. Lovely mouthfeel with wonderful juicy citrus and grapefruit. Perfect salt layer that creates complexity. Long and extremely nervous finish where the beautiful acidity structure shows itself. This is simply a particularly impressive Morstein already. 95 points.

this is seriously good wine. It starts of quite exotic but after decanting a saltyness and hints of coconut and thyme appear. The mouth is rather shy in the beginning but it builds depth after some time and this has a serious density by the last glass. This all is not overly acid nor too fat either, just a really balanced wine with a great depth. This will gain another 2 points at peak IMO but it is no shame to drink this now

Showed quite tropical, with a bit of watery mid-palate that Riesling often gets during its more awkward phases - or when it's just not all that great, but I don't think that's the case here at all. There's an electric sense to it, like all the energy of barely vibrating molecules. I would guess another few years will open that vibration up. Right now its showing as fine, but a bit dumb. I'm not in the camp of "every wine that doesn't show well probably needs more time," but in this case I think it's true.

Pop and pour, but 3 hrs slow-ox. On the nose, intense white peach, and meyer lemon oil, a hint of marzipan, and a suggestion of petrol. On the palate, lovely, searing acidity, amazing density and dry extract, with more lemon/lime oil. Did I say the density was amazing? Totally mouthfilling, and the acidity just makes your mouth water, followed by soft peppery notes. Juicy and amazing.

This rating is based on potential not actual level of quality. Very tight and dry style of Riesling with nice phenolic structure. Excellent acidity, nice texture and good aromatic intensity. Should see decanting and a fair amount of air if consumed over the next few years. It should greatly reward cellaring. great limestone expression.

Aktuell verschlossen, am ersten Tag kam gar nix. An Tag 2, 3 und 4 (kaum Veränderungen) dann deutlich besser und offener. Kräutrig, würzig, aber noch kein Vergleich zum 2015er. Liegen lassen!!!

Great wine! When I first 4 months ago I preferred the Kirchspeil over Morstein as Kirchspiel was more available. Morstein came across as a bit heavier and tightly knit. No more. With just 1 hour in the decanter the wine was singing and continued to develop very nicely in the glass throughout the evening and over the next couple of days. Lemon, grapefruit on the nose, crushed rock, minerality, some lovely almost saltiness. Very pure fruit. Worth follow-up to the sublime and almost unreal '15. Plenty of upside on this one.

Ganske rik lukt for en ung riesling - litt marsipan, tropisk frukt (pasjonsfrukt), noe lime og urter. Fyldig i munnen, med god friskhet. Rund klementinaprega syre. Delikat grapefruktbitterhet i ettersmaken, som er forholdsvis lang. Mange hakk opp fra Brunnenhauschen. Herlig vin. Dag 2 har den fått et ørlite snev av petro, men er ellers ganske lik.

This one is among the references for dry Rieling GG from 2016 and all other vintages! Limy as Limy can be! right from the start great and very intense nose, limestone, stonefruit in the foreground, absolutely delicious, still a Riesling-Baby, persistent on the midpalate with some apricot and peaches, ending chalky and very, very long, this is for the next decade(s), *(****-?), 95+ potential.
Some remarks to my view on this Riesling GG trocken thing: if you focus on this VDP.Grosse Lage you first have to find your own way! So you better search for YOUR references! I would recommend to try the holy three from the NAHE, Hermannshöhle, Felseneck and Halenberg, maybe an Felsenberg too! These are monuments for the dry mineralic, saline and energetic style from the Nahe! If you are more focused on other parts of good old Germany, try Morstein from KPK or Wittmann, maybe an "am schwarzen Herrgott" from BattenfeldSpanier. Or Maximin Grünhäuser Herrenberg and Karthäuserhofberg. And if you are a would-be revolutionary an Götzenberg from Schnaitmann, Württemberg! If you are more focused on the harmonic fullbodied style of GG please search for some from the Rheingau, for example St.Nikolaus, Gräfenberg or Hochheim, Künstler! From Rheinhessen maybe KPK Hubacker, the rest from B-S. From the Pfalz Weilberg, Pfeffingen and highly recommended the IDIG! And from the Ruwer try Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg. If you really do not like DRY Riesling at all, please try the Superior Herrenberg and Abtsberg, the -RR- from KPK and the again higly recommended Halenberg -R- from Emrich-S!

Vinen har en rund, lett oppulent nese, med frukter som kommer tydelig opp av glasset – men ikke for voldsomt – her er det forførende gule frukter, noe grønn eple og mineralitet som preger vinen.
Medium + konsentrert med kraft og dyp tekstur i vinen. Vinen har rene frukter som gir deg en nydelig følelse, med store grønne lett modne epler som bare vokser stort i munnen. En vin som finner balansen med frukt, syre og herlig mineralitet. I vinen finner vi en steinete, smattende preg som dytter meg i retning Chablis. Det hjelper også med litt sjøpreg på denne særdeles lange og herlige mineralske utgangen.
En flott vin med særpreg som bare trenger enda mer tid for å vokse seg enda større. www.botti.no

Some spritz on the tongue, grape fruit, white pepper corn, a long and delicious finish with some of the sharpest acidity on a 2016 Riesling I have seen. Buy and cellar. (90-93)
