A WTSO special. I like this wine for its pedigree and history. It's not mind blowing. But just very good. With a grilled ribeye, it really showed it's characteristics of being a big wine. Especially at 10 years old.
Color. Dark inky red.
Nose. Cherries, currants, a little creosote and tar. No alcohol burn.
Palate. Smooth. Very chocolately and richly layered with red fruits. Cranberry. Not a long finish. I like it.

3 1/2 hour decant (mag decanter). Nose: Initially after 1 hour aromas of olive tapenade and smoked meats. At the full aeration point more berry forward and floral aspects show. Palate: The palate follows the nose in the more secondary aspects showing earlier and the berry qualities more prevalent later. Tannins are very present but tamed with air although this is really a food wine IMO. It is quite good but at $60/btl it pretty much is worth the tariff so not as high on the QPR scale for a WTSO wine. That said it is delightful and will be nice to see how my remaining 2 bottles show over time sideways. I don't see this as a long term ager from here (perhaps 3-5 years max from now). 90+ points.

Modernist Cornas producer, very oaky at the opening but can smell smoked meat, blackberry and plum. Oak integrates after 1 hour of decant, palate is olive, more dark fruit forward with minerality at the end. Long finish. Very enjoyable now, can improve in the long run.

Medium to dark ruby and moreso purple color. Some BO and blackberry and plum on the nose. Blackberry and plum on the palate, with about 30-35 sec finish. Perfect pairing with beef stew.

A week in the Northern Rhone; 12/7/2018-12/15/2018 (Lyon, Vienne, Ampuis, Chavanay, Hermitage, Cornas, St. Joseph, Condrieu & Paris): Tasted at the Domaine. From Coravin - bottle opened 10 days prior. From the La Cote section of Cornas at 150 meters in the Center location - single plot. Aged 20-22 mos in barrel. Vinifed by Jean-Luc's daughter. Pure concentrated blackberries with lots of smoked meats and olive tapenade - very nice.

Very dark ruby color; aromatic, savory, smoke, roasted red fruit, charcoal nose; delicious, poised, savory, smoke, roasted red fruit, charcoal palate with good balancing acidity; medium-plus finish (from 90-year-old vines) 93+ points
