Fresh, red fruit, a light kirsch which is nice here. Pomegranate (probably a little VA). Pineapple juice, pina colada. Exotic. Entertaining. Needs time to calm.

extremely deep color, ruby to purple rim. on the nose, earthy and slighty rustic classic bordeaux aromas of cab and merlot. on the palate high acids, moderate midpalate depth, tannins are integrating and present, moderate alcohol. wine has balance, good length, very good intensity. there is finesse, a really fine tecture, excellent expression of place. this bottle felt a bit more evolved than the last one... certainly in the drinking window with a couple hours in the decanter. very nice wine.

Together with Ch.Chasse Spleen the best known estate from the Moulis appellation in the Middle-Médoc. A deep Bordeaux-red color with still a purple hue. Smell and taste are dominated by the Cabernet Sauvignon (60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot) with blackberry and cassis aromas and still a tiny bit of new oak, ripe tannins, adequate acidity and a medium long finish. This is a nice classic left bank Bordeaux which (to my taste) is already enjoyable now but will probably improve with some years of cellaring. Certainly a good QPR at 30€ (in 2019).

Purchased at retail to help judge the right time to open my case. The answer, based on this bottle, is no time soon.
With time in glass, this showed some nice black cherry and mocha on the nose on day one and was better on day two, but this was really the best of it. It seemed a bit thin and showed some bitter alcohol in the finish. Another taster has suggested that it is going through a phase, and I (very hopefully) agree. 13.5% ABV (**/14.5/85)

Plums, blackcurrant, sweet spice, cedar and a savoury under pin. Juicy, savoury, fleshy, tannins are restrained , flavours as per nose but fresher, wilder, pretty good.

Had to try this one because we had the 2019 the other day and it was great. But the 2016 has closed down I am afraid. Needs lots of air or another 10 years. Good potential though with hard tannins now but charming fruit underneath.

Well this was a surprise. Nose multi-layered; cassis, the macqui, eucalyptus as stated. In the mouth this is multi-layered - strong but fine tannins, lovely blackcurrant, herbs, graphite, damsons, black cherries and a very long, parallel flavoured finish. I think this is a triumph. So much so I have ordered some while in the restaurant in which I had it....priced at £75 on the wine list. I've just paid £33.36 - worth it.

tasty with LOTS of air. it was too sharp to enjoy upon opening and since I did not want to wait 4 hours, I sloshed it back and forth between two decanters 8 or 10 times and then aerated it into my glass, and we are enjoying it. and at $35 the price is definitely right. with some more age this would probably be pretty good.

NOSE: a broad, patient, and rich exhibition of cassis, eucalyptus, and violets. Chipped slabs of igneous rock in the background. MOUTH: a brash, grape-flavored attack introduces sophisticated sensations of groomed, grippy, cacao-scented tannins. Spanning the event: Turkish coffee, pencil shavings, black soil, prune, vanilla, and frosty mint. There's a mineral coherence lying beneath this performance that marks a significant, deep-memory stimulant. Russian tea rooms. Hanseatic liberal revolutions. 92+ points.

Updating my note of 1/30/22. This wine just gets better.
On the nose, after four hours decanting, a ripe, opulent nose worthy of a Margaux wine. Excellent cassis, floral and sensuous. On the palate, med body, rounded, silky, fleshy fruit mixing cassis and plum with the plum to the fore. Long finish, balanced, rounded with v good fruit. Overall, an excellent wine with the structure, in spite of the apparent softness, to age, yet is delicious now.

Revisited this with another bottle. Nose: after four hours decanting develops very ripe CS notes, full, opulent, with some plum notes behind, earthy notes too. Taste: light/med body, v rounded and ripe, succulent cassis notes with plum, q good acidity although soft (unusual in most 2016s I have tried), long finish, soft tannins and ripe cassis. Opulent. Overall, a huge improvement on the last bottle from a case just delivered.

CS: 60%, M: 35%, PV: 5%. ABV 13.5%. Colour: v deep red, v thin rim, purple tinge. Nose: full, fresh, savoury, q austere CS notes, spicy, Taste: med body, soft, ripe CS notes but strangely diluted, plums follow, med finish, soft, plums more than cassis, v soft tannins. Overall, surprising and not necessarily in a good way. Lack of acidity? Will compare to Cantemerle.

Bien.

Bordeaux 2016 (Wine Cellar): In 2008 this estate was purchased by Cuvelier family, owners of Leoville Poyferre and they have taken a more modern approach to the winemaking. blend is: 50% CS; 40% Mer; 10% CF. the altitude of vineyards is 25asl The nose offered plenty of stewed black plum and blackberry along with dried herbs and other secondary elements: star anise, bitter chocolate (or rather cocoa nibs). On the palate the wine was challenging with crisp, lemon-edged acidity, formidable tannins, foursquare in structure (I wrote square-jawed!), plenty of extracts and the flavour moved from Bovril, meat stock through to blackberry and red apple. Needs bags of time to open up but has the fruit to achieve this.

Kicking off with a touch of oak, the deeply colored wine offers black raspberries, licorice, smoke and tobacco on the nose. Full-bodied with ripe, soft tannins and plenty of juicy fruit in the finish.

Scoring at the top of my range, this is one of those great, affordable beauties Bordeaux can produce. The wine is concentrated, full bodied, round, fresh, and loaded with sweet ripe, earthy, fresh blackberries, licorice, smoke, tobacco and dark cherry notes. The tannins are soft and there is plenty of juicy fruit in the finish.

Zachys Grands Crus de Bordeaux 2016 (New York City, NY): Dense and chewy but closed and difficult to judge. I got some chocolate or is that cocoa ? I believe this wine would benefit from age. It seems the wares are there to benefit from some bottle age.
A touch of oak accompanies the dark red, earthy, tobacco-stained fruit. Concentrated, long, bright and fresh, the wine should age nicely and compete for one of the best value wines from the Left Bank in 2016.

With a straight shot of espresso, tobacco, cigar box, cassis and wet, forest floor aromas, the wine is full bodied, fresh, sweet and has structure, allowing it to age. There is an earthy, blackberry character here, with round tannins that allows the character to shine through. From a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, the wine reached 13.5% alcohol.

Very ripe black fruit on the nose, with touches of licorice. The palate is just a bit hard: the tannin. I wish there were a bit more freshness and lift. Was it the hot, dry summer? Still the most substantial of the Moulis properties this vintage, by far. 90-92+
