BYOB dinner NOTK (Supernova hotel, Rotterdam): [Tasted blind] Almost dark gold in color, so I was afraid it was gone, but although probably past its peak still very good and interesting. Sherry notes, white port, marmelade, honey, apple syrup. Good acidity, long finish. Still two left in the cellar, shouldn’t wait too long

Similar reaction to a week ago. When people say " its not bad , its interesting" this sums it all up. Truth is impossible to enjoy post the fresh state. Shame really.

Tried everything post first taste , long decant, cooler, warmer. Unless one is a lover of this bitter feel of rhone whites this becomes an impossible wine to drink. Btw it was bright and glossy so none of that malarkey that they close and then come back out once the colour becomes bright again that the rhone winemakers try to sell. We feel ( we also think the natural wine scene borrowed this from them too) that the spin from the winemakers like Chapoutier and the Perrins that this is great and it evolves it’s just a ploy and that these are just wines with limited evolution power in the sense that they change into something impossible once the freshness goes . If indeed they love them we can give them back ours… pointless to rate

The moment that your theory that the bulk of Rhone whites dnt age the way you like them proves true.. Bitter and charmless on open so we decided to let it rest for a day and revisit. Drink them young , drink the fresh especially the chapoutier stuff..

Dark gold color, distinctive nutty nose, mid weight to mid weight plus silky mouth feel. Strong nut flavors (pecan, walnut?), including the bitter aspect, hints of orange/orange blossom. Overall profile was interesting and somewhat unusual. I didn't dislike it, but not my favorite.

Darker golder; apricot pit, nutty, walnuts, oxidative, bitter dried orange peel finish; soft, broad, but not heavy; plush feel, bit of alcohol nose and a bit of warmth (15%). This is advanced for its age. Dirty Dozen N. Rhone tasting at Taylors.

Clear amber. Tight nose at first but there was some nice richness, cement, orange zest, honey, apricots and hints of oxidation. Dry rich orange, apricot and stone flavours and a long dry, but rich finish.

Five years later, my TN from 2012 still seems exactly right! "Golden yellow, a bit thick, leaves noticable tears in the glass. Nose is slightly maderized with nutty aromas, honey, cirtus flowers, yellow gooseberries. And the yellow cape gooseberry sums it up, because that's what you find on the palate here too: a pronounced yellow fruit flavor, fat, a bit sweet, long palate impression. A bit hot, You can taste this wine in your mouth ten minutes later. Worked very well with a brandade de morue in a puff pastry tart. Also worked well with a slice of chocolate torte for dessert."
Only change is that tonight, we are having fresh trout and poached pears! Fantastic wine...

Dinner with Wine Doc (BellyQ, Chicago): Courtesy of Wine Doc, and showing surprisingly well already in my opinion. Melon and subtle citrus notes with lanolin and beeswax undertones. Full-bodied and rich on the palate with an abundance of fruit. Balanced and shows good length on the palate and finish.

Dark golden hue, notes of almonds, Baklava and walnut oil. Thick and unctuous on the palate. A slight bitterness that makes up for the lack of acid. This would be perfect with a bit more acidity. Had this next to the 2005 JL Chave Hermitage Blanc. To me this was the better bottle. Finish was longer and it was more integrated and better rounded.

Seems very young. Interesting N. Rhone nose that tightens up considerably with air. Probably in a "dumb" phase, so its hard to know how good it will be. I have my reservations about new oak and Marsanne, but time will tell. We had this alongside the 1985 Chave blanc (really not a fair comparison) and they had nothing in common...yet?

Uncorked DK does Northern Rhône - Guigal, Chave, Chapoutier and more (Premisse, Copenhagen): Dark yellow. Sweet and exotic nose, almost Sauternes like with apricot and peach, but also tea and herbal notes. Very fat, but also with a certain lightness and a proper level of acid. Good aftertaste with plenty of licorice.
