What you’d expect. Tannins are gone but still lot of fruit and acid. Good showing. Color was excellent. Bit of funk at the beginning but blew off. 17/20

Comprehensive Jacques Selosse dinner (Source by Wolfgang Puck, Washington D.C.): Served double blind by RJ, most guessed from the 80s to 90s. Still youthful color. Expressive earthy nose displaying decadent red fruit, slightly dry cherry, stewed tomato, dark spices, iron, sauteed mushroom, grilled meat and earth. Excellent concentration, dry cherry and grilled meat driven palate impression, bright acidity and strong presence of earthly mineral, and a long sweet red fruit driven finish. Very good showing.

I'm a sucker for mature burgundy, so perhaps the score a bit inflated….but this wine rocked for me. Some browning but ruby core. Great texture and mouthfeel…pure silk. Tea, leafy. Great depth and length. It just wouldn't quit on the finish.

La Paulee 2.0 S.F.: Off the list at RN74...what a treat! Pnp...could have used some air...first thing I wrote was "dusty old wine cellar". Aged delicate bright strawberry, watermelon, tart raspberry fruit....tilled strawberry field, dusty spice, wet leaves...some sous bois, leather. Still quite alive...but really hanging by a thread.

Complex and displayed an interesting evolution over two hours. Initially closed but had cherry and tarty red fruit flavors. Over time, the tartness melted away and aromas of roast meat and truffles permeated. Towards the end, herbs and earthy tones with some sweetness. Good clarity, energy and length. 4cm level. Sourced from Switzerland.

Pale and tawny, madeirised colour. Dull and sweet nose. Very sweet on the front of the palate, a touch of coffee grounds, bitter tannins and lots of acidity. This has seen better decades. Schade. NR

Damn Good Burgs and a Toast to Hanky J (Keyaki Grill at Capital Tkyu Hotel): Surprisingly bright, aging red with orange tinge. Expressive and beautifully expansive nose screams mature burg with pine, earth, mushroom, a bit of washed rind cheese. Behind these tertiary elements is a nice remaining dose of deep but bright strawberry fruit. On the palate, the fruit is much stronger and not fading at all. Great fruit and acid balance. As it sits and develops, clay and iron and even a raisiny edge come out, but the raisin never tastes roasted or flat. Over the course of an hour, it begins to fade a little in the mid-palate, but the finish is still building. Nice long finish highlighted by iron, earth and textural muscley strength. After even more time, the tiny last bit in the glass gives a haunting aroma of dark-roasted coffee beans. Another underrated vintage that I love.

Avery Family Cellar Inaugural Wine Dinner - Really old wines (Eddie V's - Tysons Corner, VA): Corked #%$%#!!! Nevertheless, extremely youthful and vibrant. I will still rate the wine @96 pts, J/K.
