Annual wine trip; Bourgogne & Champage with Bas; 6/14/2023-6/18/2023 (France): [Restaurant purchase] At La Dilittante in Beaune together with BJBU (hence the same note). Intensity medium. Lemon peel, floral, grapefruit, wet stone, butter, oak, popcorn, bitter touch. Acidity medium(+). Finish medium(+). Took 30-45 minutes to fully open up, with additional emphasis on the creamy, buttery character.

An interlude between the Krug 1998 and the Romanée Saint-Vivant 1945 on this Christmas Day. One could do worse - fresh but generous, ripe but not fat, relaxed and beautifully balanced, well defined flavours, brioche and ripe fruit and hazelnut, very good resonance and length. Completely ready.

Apparently the Monthelie is the only wine in Roulot’s portfolio that was made in a more natural way – very low amount of sulphur added at bottling, no filtering. Roulot style of purity and leanness, Roulot’s typically early harvesting worked superbly well with 2015 vintage, it’s retained great acidity and freshness. Citrus and granny smith apples. Good weight and intensity with a saline mineral finish. Lengthy and satisfying. (88/100)

Champs Fulliot abuts the Meursault Premier Cru Les Caillerets. Roulot's 2015 has a pale to medium white golden colour; subtle low toast oak on the nose, whiff of sea breeze and some ripe pear and apple, hint of sake; relatively generous palate, ripe and rounded style, silky texture, succulent stone fruits and ripe citrus (orange, tangerine), low acidity but lovely balance; very good resonance and length without any back-end heat. Rich rather than refined, but a joy to drink right now.

The 2015 Roulot Monthelie 1er Cru Les Champs Fulliots has the textbook reductive and shy nose of Roulot, as well as a distinctive “sake” smell that I associate with Domaine Roulot. Refined citrus an white tree fruits, gentle creamy flavours on the palate. This vineyard is located at the corner of Meursualt 1er Cru Les Caillerets. (86/100)

Lekker parfymert med nydelig mineralitet. Konsentrert med pen friskhet. Elegant og smooth. Ung, men drikker bra nå. Trives dog best litt kjølig. Steinete lang finish med en mineralitet som dekker hele munnhulen. 92-93p

Very pale yellow / golden color. Super nose! Very floral with some light citrus and essential oils on the nose. Creamy texture with a mineral backbone that holds this beauty up brilliantly. Excellent example of the Roulot stye in a ripe year.

Turkey day (Chicago, IL): I think this is drinking a lot better than the 2015 Bouchères that I had recently. The nose shows a good amount of reduction and flintiness, but the "lesser" appellation gives this wine an approachability that the Bouchères didn't quite have. Very mineral, with that expected ripeness from the vintage, but without too much fatness. More mineral and lean on the palate with really nice counterbalancing acidity. Very delicious now.

I find Roulot Chardonnays can be variable sometimes (one can even call their wines “moody”). However, this 2015 Monthelie 1er Cru Champs Fulliot is generous and expressive, offering that textbook Roulot restrained creamy profile. Glossed citrus, ripe white orchard fruits, and creamy mild toast. Ripe phenolic with lovely smoked-airy minerals on the palate. Higher in alcohol giving away the 2015 heat. Got better with time. (89/100)

I had never seen this cuvee from Roulot before; ordered off the list at Marea. Very satisfying White Burgundy, with tasty orchard fruit married to plenty of acidity and good mineral bite. The ripeness of the vintage shows slightly in the fruit character, but there's no flabbiness or lack of acid here.
