Staining black-red purple, on the upward slope, full bodied, and the fruit is not overwhelmed by its savory side. An abundance of blackberry and dark plum, some black olive. Not velvety or suave but a wine with stuffing and deep flavor. Closer to a 91 after 48 hours. Another half decade should delineate its bounty.
Excellent A really nice showing on PnP and with about an hour decant. Savory with salted plum, dark cherry, some earth and roasted meat. There is a higher note glossy red fruit riding on top, but it settles in and settles down quickly, helping provide some lift and energy. Soothing and comforting, but not warming like we often get from the southern Rhone.
This may be at peak or close to it, so I think the best drinking might be in the next couple of years, though I could see this going out another five.

Crimson in color. 13% ABV. Savory nose of dark fruits, bacon fat and flowers. Medium body with medium acidity. There is an old world rusticity complemented by tart fruits. Plum, cherry, iodine and fatty meats on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Really good but I was left hoping for more. Best over the next several years.

Purple in color. 13% ABV. Soaring nose of red fruits, bacon fat, olive brine and flowers. Medium body with ample acidity. Soft, approachable and easy to drink. Black cherry, gamey meats, smoke and blood on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Delicious, well made Old World Syrah that is priced really well. Lots to like here. Best over the next 2-4 years.

The first of a few bottles of this purchased a few years ago, glad I waited as it seems this is just starting to hit its stride, getting better with air. It is good on PnP, not too tight, but aromatics get better with air. CHABLIS28's note is spot on. Though it packs plenty of pleasing ripe fruit it is so clean and fresh.

Opened 3 hrs prior to dinner. Finding it open & elegant decided to simply further slow ox in glass & btl till dinner. By syrah standards this is a featherweight feeling more like burgundy. That said, no mistaking its Northern Rhone syrah typicity & terroir. So elegant and energetic with an array of earth, meat, spice on the nose along w/ mineral & red fruit on the palate. The texture & purity of fruit are quite remarkable for this level. Only thing missing is the added concentration & oomph from a higher end site like Cote Rotie. Not a bad trade off though for excellent finesse & lifted elegance. Not to mention I bought this for $24 locally. Old vine Northern Rhone syrah for just $24 from a master producer. Let that sink in. No NR syrah lover should ever miss out on a Faury wine. 13% alc.

Sadly, my last bottle of this wonderfully priced wine that I would 100% buy again if the opportunity presents itself. Rhone in all the best ways, earthy, cassis, dark berries, garrigue.

This bottle was tighter than the previous one, and I missed some of the stewed tomatoes and green herbs that were present before. Still a great QPR here and a must buy if you like Rhones.

Lovely. On the nose creamy red fruit, a touch of funk and game, wild raspberry. On the palate, fantastic acidity, a touch of olive, wild raspberry. So fresh and lively... Just a juicy and exciting St. Joseph!

This keeps getting better. Extremely funky nose, with wet wood, earth, barnyard, and some faint green herb notes, there was luscious black and blue fruits coming through on the palate. This is a full bodied wine, maybe not the best pairing with food unless you have something very rich, but you can't go wrong with this for under $25/bottle.

Moving in the right direction that's for sure, this wine still needs a couple more years to dust off some of the tomato juice effect going on at the beginning. Interesting wine nonetheless, especially for those that like a more savory style.

Definitely improved with a bit more age, this had notes of tomato juice, kirsch, black tea, and blackberries. Very different than wines I’m used to drinking, looking forward to seeing what the future holds for this wine

Tasted over two days. Ripe fruit, backed by strong expression of place. Well crafted balance of concentration, punch, and lift. The wine over delivers, with verve and sophistication. Excellent now, probably better in a few years. The ripeness suggests it should enter its peak drinking window by 2025. 92-93.

Clear purple. Thrilling aromas of violets and blackberry. Medium weight, great inner mouth fragrance as well. Clean, supple, pure, and lively. Tremendously appealing St. Joseph that is drinking like a charm now.
Just as strong the second night. Ooh, that Syrah perfume just slays.

Under $25? You gotta be kidding me. Opened this up last night and let it breathe in the decanter for 4 hours before taking a sip. Sure this is a baby, but a little air and some swirling in the glass really coaxed a fantastic, earthy nose out of this. Classic CDP in all the good ways, unmistakably French and right up my alley. It's a bit tart on the palate, but faint enough not to ruin a very deep, dark fruit driven wine that will develop layers as it sits in the bottle for a few years. Still fun to drink now, but should be even better in 3-4 years.
Wine Tasting Group - Theme: Northern Rhone - May 6, 2018 (Michael's home): Band-aid aromas hit first followed by ripe black/blue fruits, gamy meats, and herbs. Palate showed the ripeness of the black/blue fruits, some minerals and prominent tannins on mid-palate. Finish, for me, was marred by noticeable vanilla oak. Surprised at this showing as I've Faury in the past and enjoyed. This version seemed modern, sleek with too much oak. Not a style that I enjoy.

Highly enjoyable. Bright and relatively svelte, this nevertheless shows concentrated red and dark fruits with a cranberry note I get in some cru Beaujolai. Well balanced and no shame in opening one now.

This is a fairly dark and inky iteration of St. Joseph, not unlike the Gonon in its fruit profile. Intensely aromatic nose that shows some ripeness. There's prominent salinity here; in fact the black fruit doesn't seem to play as prominent a role. The tannins on the back end feel large-grained. It's not as refined and fleshy, the structure is more on display in this wine.

Ripe. (Too ripe for Jill’s tastes). Inky color tinged with magenta at the rim. On the nose, Blackberry dominates with a bit of Northern Rhône savories underneath. It’s a fine tipple but a little in your face for me.

Similar to my last bottle. Typical Faury St. Joe but in a fuller, riper interpretation. This still has good structure and underlying points but the cool sharp and subtle notes are subordinate to the weight of the vintage here. Still, this is good to Very Good and continues to be a perennial case buy.

Quintessential St. Joseph. Aromas of tar, violet, blackberry, ash, and baking spice. Killer nose. On the palate, medium bodied with dark cherry, blackberry, licorice, spicy black pepper. Medium acidity, and a little bitterness on the finish.
Drank another bottle 8/31/18, and found it be much more round, less structured, and with sweeter fruit. However, dangerously gluggable and crowd pleasing.

Ripe nose, iodine, licorice, incipient pepper, loads black cherries, great attack, quite dry despite the color and nose, bright with a bit of tannin in end, medium bodied but with good dry extract and a long finish, shows just a touch of stem. Young, but already so engaging, a substantial step up from prior vintages but still true to the house style. Truly sensational QPR. Bought a case after this bottle. 92-93 pts.
Deep purple. Wonderful Syrah aromas-violets, fennel, and blackberry jam. Juicy, lively black fruit, excellent acidity, some soil, and moderate tannins. This young buck was a perfect match for spicy grilled meat. Delicious wine.

Another winner from Faury. Shows the ripe fruit of the vintage, but there's also a nice peppery and lightly floral tinge around the fruit and a savoury finishing bitterness. It's medium weight on its feet with bright acids and some grainy tannin on the back end, and this is a really solid value.

Popped and poured. A bit tight nose but it shows textbook examples of classic Syrah aromatics. Blackberry, dark cherry, raw meat, black olive, fresh ground black pepper, violets, a bit of juniper berries and damp forest floor.
Surprisingly soft structure with lots of fresh, sappy, blackberry fruit. There is some savory spice, damp forest floor and black olive coming through though. Medium(+) bodied with smooth tannic structure and maybe lacking a bit of acidity to really get that fresh lift.
The overall impression of this wine is that it is approachable, easy to like, rather fruit-driven without loosing it's sense of place.

Beautiful saturated purple. Lots of pine needles. Lush and nearly as dense as the Graillot. A pure ray of black fruit that is not candied or overly ripe, excellent acidity, and suave tannins. Incredibly seductive, approachable wine that has the balance to last. Given the rising price of producers such as Gonon and Chave, this qualifies as a terrific bargain for St. Joseph.

My first Faury Saint Joseph in 10-12 years. I've stayed away because I've found it unfocused and with fruity notes without much savoriness, smoke or meat. Fast forward to 2015 and I find it the same. Not sure how to rate. Probably 86 which is a very good wine. But this wine never does anything for me.
