JD Friday Wine Group - CAB Host (City Club FW - Wine Room): Tasted blind - pale yellow in the glass. At first smell, I thought Chardonnay. Had some lemon and oak on the nose. But also a good bit of stone fruit on the nose and palate. Upon tasting, the high acid and slight bitterness took me away from Chardonnay to something else. After a bite of the lobster bisque, the wine had a sour finish. I enjoyed this one more without food. I guessed a 2018 L’ apres midi from Peter Michael. The Sauvignon Blanc that doesn’t taste like one. Wrong.

Kleur: Medium strogeel. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 10 + Smaak / Afdronk: 15 + Algemeen / potentieel: 8 = 88/100
Color: Medium straw yellow Aroma / bouquet: Pleasant Chardonnay, hints of citrus (especially lime), a hint of tropical fruit. Pleasant, not great. Taste / Finish: Pleasant fresh start, retronasal impressions of lime and fresh pineapple, mouth-filling and juicy, average finish. General / potential: Fine Chardonnay, pleasant and flawless. Yet the white Gaias rarely come close to their red counterparts in terms of concentration, balance and as far as I am concerned. 50 + Color: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 10 + Taste / Finish: 15 + Overall / potential: 8 = 88/100

Good wine. Not great but I think that is because it needs more time. Very rich and citrus driven. Starting to get gold in color. Creamy. Still has some acid in the back end. I’d wait on more.

I had completely forgotten that I drank a bottle of this wine about a year ago. My tasting note today is identical, more or less, to the one I wrote a year ago. This bottle has been open for 3 days with no degradation. Grand Vin in the glass.

The Kirsch Italian Extravaganza (677 Prime, Albany, NY): [Pop and pour from a half bottle.] Huge, complex nose of lemon custard and marzipan. Rich in the mouth. Long, complex finish of minerals and mixed citrus fruits. Quite stunning.

There's a sauvage note here, Sauvignon blanc esque, alongside more typical aromas of stone and citrus. Energetic. Finishes with more out of place greenness.

A baby, really tight, but there is so much potential here. Showing like a Grand Cru Chablis with intense notes of citrus and steel/stones. There is no toast, no oak influence as I had feared. Apparently this wine has been raised on old barrels which makes the expression transparent. There’s potentially Grand Vin in the bottle, wait 10 years for this - at least.

Dinner Honoring Bernard Hervet (Lake Forest, IL): Served blind, just knowing it to be 2015 Chardonnay. Very balanced and enjoyable with moderate weight and length, very good balance. I thought it was a top Central Coast wine.
