Yes, way past its prime but still a treat to drink for those of us who like the oldies. Good color, lots of sediment, old nose. Tar, leather, chocolate in the taste. Fun to drink with lasagna.

Fill into neck. Perfect capsule and cork. Allowed to breathe in glass for 30 minutes before tasting. Clear dark youthful inky garnet-violet. Attractive, subdued bouquet of creme de cassis, blackberries, anise, damp earth and forest floor, with some tobacco and roast game in the background. On the palate, this was full bodied with mouthwatering acidity, dry dusty tannins, faded fruit, and an herbal finish. About the same after 24 hours under vacuum stopper. Drink up.

Dark, with tobacco, cedar, currant on the classic Napa nose. There is a nice herbal/incense thing too. Decent complexity and good balance; this benefited substantially from some air. Long spicy cedar finish. Outstanding.

Really impressed with this. Nose is amazing - fig, leather and caramel. The wine is beautiful; just when I was leaning more towards Bordeaux, this reinforces how great a California cab can be. wow, really. The finish is a little stiff - tastes like concrete, but still beautiful, rich and complex. Not much more to ask for really; wish I bought more.

Big, inky purple Napa cab that still tastes as good as it looks...lively black cherry flavors dominate. However, the cork in this bottle appeared to be close to losing its ability to do its job well which would make me want to drink what remains in the cellar ASAP.

A partially corked bottle; is there such a thing? 2/5 glasses poured showed signs of a good wine, smooth finish, oaky taste. The rest of the glasses were terrible with an acidic finish. Bottle was likely passed its prime. A shame.

The last of a six pack purchased from Mccarthy in 98. I am sad to be finished with these wines. They were all teriffic and likely drunk too soon. This evenings bottle opened and decanted at 5, was a tannic beast with monolithic power. Dad and I savored every sip and were amazed at the youth and vitality the wine exhibited. At the original 25 dollar price, it was a steal! Wish more Cali wines at this level were near the price.
