Not a fan of Sauv Blanc but this may have changed my mind. This entry level wine was excellent and despite the austerity you get with the grape, the lemon grass and minerality is just so enjoyable and translates nicely from the nose to the taste. Went perfectly with fresh macadamia nut-encrusted/coconut milk mahi-mahi. Definitely would buy again, a click better than Kim Crawford.

Gooseberry and lemongrass with considerable depth and length on the finish, a wine that reminded me why Cloudy Bay was such a hit in the American market in the first place--Dagenau-ish--though there was a dull stretch in the intervening years.

Excellent New Zealand Sauvignon blanc. I really enjoy the light minerality of this wine. There is zero "ick" on the back end, unlike some other Sauvignon blancs--California are you listening? This wine works for me. Definitely recommended. Wish it was cheaper though.

Brought this to SaLe Marino to share with a close colleague.
Pale straw in colour. Paired this with the cold cuts, squid salad and carbonara and seafood stew. The grapefruit and pink guava on the nose is unmistakably an awesome New Zealand Suavignon Blanc. Lush, balanced with moderate fresh acidity, this wine delivers at the right places and right notes.
Although past vintages have fared better in terms of quality, the name Cloudy Bay still revokes images of reliability, consistency and quality. This wine did not disappoint.

Based on the other ratings for this wine, I must have simply had a turned bottle. Because the subtle scent of grapefruit and other citrus is overwhelmed by the smell of cat pee (after a healthy dose of asparagus). Very sour, which could have been enjoyable with the right pairing, if not the noted flaw.

I am an infrequent drinker of NZ Sauvignon Blanc, possibly due to bad experiences with high production commercial brands, with their generic sameness and excess of cut lawn flavours.....this is a cut above. On nose: fresh pineapple , meyer lemon and minerality. On palate: follow through of the above,in addition to distinct flavours of dried apricot and guava....with just a faint hint of asparagus ....medium bodied with clean acidity.....might buy again ....if White Bordeaux weren't more tempting.

I feel like this winery keeps evolving in style. This is still a wonderful wine but now drifting to a rounder more tropical fruit style - for me passion fruit evident. Still plenty of fresh acidity but a bit more mouth filling than expected.p. Enjoying it but over the years never quite know exactly what to expect.

Cloudy Bay's never disappoint. Savoured the '14,' 15 and '16 vintages over the last 3 years. I must says this is as flavoursome as the' 14 with more body through the citrus zesty taste, yet not cloying. Refreshing acidity on palate as ever. Well-controlled consistency across vintages with ripe tropical fruits of pineapple and lemony freshness on the aroma.

Smells of grapefruit and cat's pee. Very tart, like under ripe gooseberries. Just too sour for me although I dare say some people will love it. This is the sort of wine that keeps your dentist in a job. Cloudy Bay was a big hit in the 90s because none of us had ever tasted sauvignon blanc quite like it - but now it just tastes like any other NZ SB to me, except priced at a premium.

Brought this to Jin Long Seafood Restaurant to celebrate my Mother's Birthday and Father's Day.
Pale straw in colour with slight touch of green. On the nose the tropical notes were showing very well: guava, pomegranate, dragonfruit and lime.
What was remarkable about this wine is the delicate balance it has between displaying too much fruit characteristics and the the flavours in its portfolio: minerals and wet rocks. Good structure, finesse and long finish.
A touch weaker as compared to other vintages, but Cloudy Bay has always been a sure bet for a classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Go for it.

Tasted at The Wine Society's Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon tasting, Winchester, UK. My first opportunity to taste the 2017 vintage of this wine which I always find to be good. Medium gold colour. The nose is slightly closed. On the palate it's dry, gooseberries show through with tropical overtones. It's rich, long and cloys to the tongue and mouth. There's a lemony finish.

Fresh notes of guava, grapefruit and citrus fruits on the nose and palate. Not a wine with a lot of faults; not one with a lot to boast about either. Does its job easily and effortlessly.. The wine is delightful, easy to drink with refreshing elements.
