  • Beautiful representation of barbaresco. Still very fresh, clear color with good tint. Somewhat quiet on the nose initially but overtime opening up to very good cherry fruit, rose, perfume notes, orange peel, sweet herbs. Palate certainly shows some stone and rusticness. But with time fruit comes through And the complexity is there. More stone and black earth. Very smooth. Well
    Integrated.

  • Perfekt kork, minimalt gjennomtrukket. 93 poeng.

  • Drinking very well now. Layers and layers of flavors - blackberry and currant

  • Had this in San Gimignano in a wine store on a Monday afternoon. Decanted for 30 mins, definitely not enough...The wine had a lot of prunes in the nose and palate with some cherries, tobacco and fat, made in a meaty style. Still very tannic and young. The wine had a lot of potential as it released more power and flavor with more aeration. The after taste had tea and plum flavors, similar to the 97 giacosa barolo I had couple weeks ago. Give it 5-10 more years. The kind of wine Kingyan would appreciate.

  • Holiday dinner with Washington DC Winos (Ripple Restaurant in Washington D.C.): Of the three Italian wines, I found this to be quite good, but the least interesting at this stage. While it conveyed red fruit aromatics, and medium flavor intensity of blackberry and cherry and spice, it came across as slightly closed in and tannic, even more so than the 1996. I would hold off for a few years before opening this one. Again, maybe I did not give it enough time in glass to properly appreciate.

  • Sunday at Ken's; 7/14/2013-7/15/2013: Lovely nose of cherries, floral notes and some tar. Much more feminine than the Gaja. Still, this is young and big and takes some coaxing to unwind. I got one of the first pours of the bottle. very pretty wine.

  • Bruna Giacosa in South Ken (The Sampler, South Kensington, London): This too was muted, animale on the palate and some fat, rich, but very tannic - less approachable than the 04

  • A light ruby red color with a slightly orange rim. Initially, bright cherry fruit on the nose with rose petal and a woodsy mushroom undertone. Very pure nose that sang Barbaresco and with time allowed the trademark of tar to rise from this wine's bouquet. On the palette, medium bodied with raspberry and cranberry fruit and notes of tobacco on the long finish that turned to menthol and cherry. There's a lot of chewy tannin that will take time to fade away before this wine can realize its true potential but the fruit was prominent enough to show that it should last the test of time.. This bottle was opened to early and even with the four hours of air it received in decanter, it didn't quite show it's true colors. I'd say this bottle needs a good 5 - 10 years before it should be sampled again.
