Raisin and camphor on the nose. On the palate, black cherry, raisin, and notes of prune and brambly spice on the medium to long finish, with moderate tannins and moderate to good acidity. This would be better if it had a little more acid. It was a good value at just over $50.

From 375 from the wine list at The Lawrence - Atlanta, GA. This was quite dark in color, with a rich dark fruited nose. On the palate was drinking surprisingly well for a young Amarone. Seems to be built more in an earlier drinking style, plums, raisins and spice cake but there is acidity lurking in the back that retains freshness, some tannins but not overly so. While this was not riveting is was enjoyable.

Medium color. Tasting it blind, my first impression was of a Negroamaro or Nero d'Avola with some Malvasia Nera blended in. When my host shook his head, I then guessed a Valpolicella Ripasso. I was close. This is a more refined than intense Amarone (despite its 16.5% alcohol) and is surprisingly drinkable now, probably to cater to the restaurant trade. A very good Amarone with lots of fruit, but I don't think worth the $55 my host paid for it at Total Wine.

This is becoming smoother with age. It shows classic Amarone raisin and plum on nose and palate - excellent.

This had a nice note of black pepper that I hadn't noticed in previous bottles. It's excellent with rich food on a cold winter night.

Deep crimson-purple, opaque; intense kirsch liquor, stewed prunes, blackberry jam, tobacco, leather, vanilla; dried sweet cherry, pruney, cocoa, silky, full body, good acidity, good heat, chewy tannins, lingering finish.
Hedonistic nose of stewed fruit, leather, pipe tobacco and floral notes. Youthful acidity should mellow with time.

Full bodied. Well balanced. Bold tannin initially then opened up nicely. Oak and Tabasco.

Plummy, and perhaps too plummy for my taste. Otherwise nice and strong.
