Blind. Pale straw. Fragrantly floral nose, mineral but with a sense of subdued richness too. Strong familial resemblance to its partner, this one seemingly riper. Both served quite cold. As they warm and open over a couple of hours, the initially fatter 16 gains sharper line and the riper fruit notes transition to a more herbal minerality with juniper and pine sap providing real interest and visceral grip. This is lovely - so glad we saved some in glass and revisited. Suspect we’ve not quite given it long enough to shop at its best, but there’s less of a gap between this and the 15 than previously. ****

Drinking very well - we drank outdoors, with prawn salad and grilled chicken, on a hot day, so probably could have done with a bit better temperature control!

Nose expresses peach, nectar, white flowers and minerals. Palate is rich and broad with very good density. For the vintage, the acidity profile is beyond expectation. Drinking very well. A classic Puligny that has generous power and grip.

Blind. Pale to mid straw. White fruit and flower, some weight but more minerally and finer boned than the 15 alongside. This is very fine. Opens and deepens with air, building complexity but also line and finesse. The 15 and 16 are relatively big boned examples but retain elegance and poise. ****1/2

Still very youthful, but in a lovely place. Pure white peach and lemon fruits with plenty of white flower notes. Direct and precise, so much mineral. Sappy orchard fruits drive through the palate and it finishes with great cut and excellent length.

Light yellow colour. Lemons and flowers on the nose. Similar on the palate, with some grapefruit, nuts and vanilla. Just a hint of stone fruits. It just tastes a bit diffuse and soft, despite the apparent high acidity. For me, this is great to drink now - I'm unsure how it will age.

Strong aromas of chalk, lime zest, and yellow floral distillate. Chalky intensity continues on the palate, with preserved lemon, river rocks, and some spearmint or pine needle, even a bit of meursault like hazel-nuttiness. Moderate length.

We drank five 2016 white burgundies, single blind, with the Tucson tasting group. The Carillon Perrieres is very good, but was flighted in tough company. I ranked it fifth, but many in the group had it second or third. I've had many vintages of this wine, always like it, and find it to be very reasonably priced.

MEA Celebration at St. Genevieve (St. Genevieve): Double decanted prior to dinner. The nose is subtle and beguiling. Hints of mint and herbs amongst the subtle fresh fruit. Very pretty. Light and elegant on the palate. Silky smooth with absolutely perfect weight and balance. Less overt in all ways than the Coche. Takes coaxing and patience, but rewards that patience. This kept getting stronger and stronger as the night wore on. Quite impressive!

St. Genevieve Minneapolis: I'm a fan of Carillon's Perrieres, and for me the 2016 is good if not great. I'd like to see this put more weight on over the years, in which case it could move towards great. Nonetheless, a lovely drink and it successfully wooed us. I'm glad to own this. Decanted for two hours.

I can't argue with Jeremy Holms, take on this wine. It shared a compelling and varied flight with; a precocious 2016 PYCM CC, a featherweight 2016 Lafon Meursault Charmes and a massive 2016 Coche Village Meursault. Of the group this was my all round personal favorite for its; spot on Puligny Montrachet drive, precision, sappy minerality and balance. This, for me, is quintessential white Burgundy and Puligny Montrachet with Grand cru level concentration and energy. Occasionally, the chalk gets a bit much but, all in all, I loved it!

In Depth Rosenthal Burgundy Tasting (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): More reduction on the nose than the 2014, lime zest, matchstick, flinty, nose is more effusive, very focused, strong acids, sweeter fruit, sappy dry extract, showing beautiful balance; while everything is very nice everything points to a strong trajectory upwards and time will prove its brilliance.

This was a bit shy to begin with, needed quite a bit of air and it wasn't until the second-to-third glass where is started to shine. Although it never really took off the same way as a Leflaive (almost any cuvee), H. Boillot Clos de Mouchere), B. Moreau Maltroie does. Solid and classic example of Puligny elegance without the x factor.

Fine, flinty and floral. It is dense and powerful but very compact, playing along a narrow channel for now. The finish is really chalky and it is a wine of immense potential.
