Dark cranberry red. Nutmeg, crushed raspberry, and earth nose. Medium to full bodied, black pepper, cherry pie, dusty tannins, baking spices, a bit of heat, and a medium to long finish. Better with food.

This Zin appeals to me. It's big black berry and pepper are rather restrained. The mouthfeel is better harmonized and the finish is of fruit and earth. Always a part of my cellar. Had in this case with beef short ribs.

For them old vine starts at 55 and the oldest is 130. 16 different vineyards go into this. ANd why 55 years old? Its because the old vines could dig down to hit the water table and as the water table got less and less (or lower and lower) the vines went after it. 40% barrel fermentation but almost all old. But the fermentation cooks out a little structure to frame up the wine a little bit more.
Big fruited and very round, a bit of a plastic thing on the back. But here it is.

The nose is filled with aromas of black cherry, oak, vanilla and spice. On the palate, you experience tastes of ripe black cherry and juicy dark plums with hints of smoke and spice. This wine has a long, lingering and slightly hot finish due to the 15.4% abv.

Very dark garnet. Nose: rich, powerful fruits, blueberry jam, dark cherries, an unexpected, but welcome, malt. Attack: mature dark cherries and currants. Mid-palate: dark chocolate. Finish: tobacco, dark-roast coffee, sweet grapefruit. Thick, rough tannins. Full body and long length.

Pro critics seem underwhelmed, but this is quintessential Lodi zin in my book, at a great price. Big nose of fruit and chocolate; almost sweet, jammy, spicy dark berry juice, more chocolate, with classic zin briary, spicy, peppery midpalate, a touch of aromatic darkness (licorice?), long, bright, finish, and sufficient tannins for decent balance. Fantastic pop and pour - amazing on opening and just gets better in the glass.

Big dark color. Concentrated blueberry. American oak. Impression of sweetness. Lingering secondary stuff like licorice, graphite and molasses. Nice concentration. Not just a fruit bomb. Typical wild bramble with dark fruit on the finish.

Wine seems to be not as good as in the past. Sharper tastes, less fruit of Zin. Not sure but wonder about handling by Frys, which is where it was purchased. The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like raspberry and black currant (cassis). It tastes like raspberry, black currant (cassis) and cherry. The body is medium. The wine has bright texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

Klinker Zin is back for us :) We drank a lot of it from the 2010 - 2012 vintages as a terrific pnp at a bargain price. The '13 and '14 vintages didn't have the same appeal for us, so we quit buying. Just had the first bottle of 2015 and will go back tomorrow for a case. A big mouthful of Zin flavor, dark cherries and chocolate, hard to beat at $16.
